1.) Who would you put into the job (bearing in mind you would have to pay Blackie off)
2.) Who would you replace him with.
4.) Who should we of bought, bearing in mind we have no idea how long he is going to be out for. You could end up with two high earning goalkeepers.
5.) So you wouldn't of given the manager anything for transfers after last season? If you would, where would the money come from?

1 & 2) Gary Speed? And Ade Boothroyd was in the directors box on Tuesday.
4) This should have been 'nipped in the bud' immediately. Paddy has left us wide open to attacks by Martin Samuel and his ilk. We should have got rid.
5) Come on. As Fiery Blade has said

It's a matter of expectations - please explain why Burnley, Stoke, Bolton, Portsmouth, Hull City, Birmingham, Wigan, are currently playing in the Premier League whilst United spend the majority of their time in the top half of the Championship with only one season in the Premier League in the last twelve. Most supporters want to see premier football in Englands 4th/5th biggest city. When you consider we are playing at the same level as Scunthorpe, Barnsley, Doncaster, Peterborough, Plymouth, Blackpool, etcperhaps some ambition is not wrong!!!

We have got/had the money. In fact I'd argue we're one of around ten financially-viable clubs in the country but, as FB said, look at the results of our parsimony - we're being overtaken by clubs much smaller and poorer than us.

Sure some of them are punching above their weight, but why do we consistently punch below ours?

1 & 2) I think that Speed is potentially a natural sucessor. Boothroyd had success with watford winning promotion, but nothing from there. And lets not forget that his style of play was hardly attractive when they were winning.
4) Agree with the number of keepers, we need to wait until the hearing is finalised before making a snap decision. As for "Fat Sam" who cares? In the most stagnant of times he still finds something to write about and blame us for, so that doesnt really change.

My opinion is that rather than "Punching below our weight" we are simply not prepared to spend insane amounts of money. Granted we all want to be in the top flight, and you could argue that we should be there, but if spending wisely and maintaining the clubs financial position means that we spend more than one season in the championship then im all for it. Id much rather that than throw money around left right and centre to gain promotion just be relegated the following season with a huge wage bill and plummet further down the leagues.

No doubt ill be hung drawn and quartered for saying this, and it shall be proclaimed that i am not a true blade, but that is my stance. When all is said and done, this is a business that is McCabe is running and lets be fair, he wouldnt be as wealthy as he is if he wasnt good at business.

Mike Ashley is a good business man!!!! Made £Millions now spending them with Newcastle
Its not a case of spending millions it is spending wisely
How many ordinary players have we signed and paying them a good salary for not even playing eg Bennett, Bromby, Howard, Cotterill, Sharp, Reid, Little, Haber, Sun and not to mention Hendrie - add their wages up per week and we could have afforded Beattie for anther season- that would make more sense!!!

Please dont ever use Mike Ashley as a shining example of a football club chairman, thats one step past bonkers

What happens when we get injuries? Get rid of 8 players to pay the wages for one. :loopy:
Thank god you dont have any input into the running of the club.

surely your not suggesting that we should have released all those players just to keep one!

Not to mention that it has already been confirmed that Beattie wanted an improved contract whilst having 3 years to run, what was stopping us meeting that and him wanting another improved contract 12 months thereafter? what would we have done then? sold the back four just to keep him? that my friend is just silly.

Granted i agree that we do have many players on wages that are rarely used. Bennett is a back-up keeper, and as such is needed. Likewise Bromby is predominantly(*sp) back-up. Without knowing what the rest are on its difficult to state if there wages are too much or not. Howard is a player i dont like, and would move him on ASAP, Sharp is unlucky and IMO hasnt had the best of oppertunities but i think we will see him move on. Cotterill is a starting player, although the current way things are going he's losing out to Ward who is performing. Sun has gone, Haber is a media stunt IMO and will be getting little money, probably the lowest. Reid and little are new players so too early to pass judgment, and hendrie doesnt seem to be lucky with fitness. Maybe its time for him to retire? or potentially coach.

Ashley is indeed a business man, and has made alot of money. However unlike McCAbe he came into Newcastle wanting to play god rather than being a chairman and letting the football people do the football stuff. He's made a grave mistake and as such has paid for it in that his original valuation when putting the club up for sale at £450m has been drasticly reduced to £100m. All in all he wanted to make a fortune on them and hasnt he's lost.

Stick and wrong end come to mind!
I was merely quoting that a good businessman does not necesserily make a good football club chairman and that United seem to have more than their fair share of 'ordinary' footballers. It is not coincidence that there seems little interest in Billy Sharp as he is only a proven scorer in League 1 where as we had little trouble 'offloading' Hulse, Stead, Beattie even Shelton and no manager in his right mind would have bought Bromby back onced sold! Both Blackwell and Warnock trotted out the saying ' We shall not bring anyone into the squad that is not better than we already have' QED

All i want is for the Blades to stop acting like Pisspot United ...........
same owd with or without McCabe.

Three games in and 5 points in the bag ...... hit rate 55.5555% wud give us 76 or 77 points end of season, conclusion playoff spot .....and we all know what happens then !

No disrespect to Leicester but we shud be beating teams like them !

Get rid of the sh!te Blackie !

please re-assess :)

What we should do is take out a massive bank loan and replace half the first team, hoping that they all gel and get us promoted, then take out another massive loan and replace more of the first team hoping that they keep us up. Therefore the Sky money will service the loans and provide our operating budget, then we can spend loads of cash on stupied shite like aquariums for the board room etc. Don't worry about what will happen if we don't go up cos that won't happen with the cash we're throwing about.

Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you the Ridsdale business plan

are you carefully recalculating your sums beighton, cuz now we are on course to be champions! of course at this stage 8pts from 12 means nothing, however you were so sure last week that our total points could be extrapilated from 3 games so surely now you believe we will get 92 points? no is that because it doesn't suit your stupid negative agenda?

I bet you a Mars bar the Blades won't be champions.

jeez, its hard work with you sometimes. Please reread it slowly and see if you can understand my point ie 2 points a game =champions but to say that after 4 games is plainly ridiculous, however the week before after 3 games you were making forecasts as to the end of season points tally based on just that.
Just my little way of showing you the error of your negative ways.....wasting my time aren't I?

I think what Pat is trying to say BB, is that you do have a tendency to always look for the worst and negative in all things Blades, and rarely if ever see the positive. In fact you seem to take sheer delight in things going tits up, to justify your standpoint. You were quite happy to do that with a points tally up after dropping points, but seem reluctant to do the same thing after an away win. Both are ludicrous, as Pat points out, but they do give an indication as to character traits.

In Blades terms, you're glass half-empty fella aren't you BB? :D
