I think we have decided on 5th or 6th as the upper target this season and are hopeing the dice rolls in our favour in the play offs

That being the case I don't see much coming in during the JTW apart from the dubious extension to Hammonds loan until the season end.

More interesting will be to see who goes out, if someone was to offer serious cash for Adams (serious for this board being between £1.5m to £2m) it could see him going, same for Brayford whose wages are a bone of contention for some at the club.

We could also find out if Baxter really has burnt all his bridges, 300k or so could see him departing. Done may also move on for 5-600k.

500k would be great money for Done. We won't get our money back on Baxter though, unless we end up giving him a new contract, which I hope we do. If we freeze him out and get rid now we'd be shooting ourselves in the foot. He'll offer a lot between now and the end of the season if we keep him.

Getting rid of a good number, sending Sammon back and getting a couple of good quality loans in would be a good enough January for me but if the likes of Burn and Morsy are as available as they seem to be then we should take our chance to sign them. I'd also be happy to see Adams go for £2m+ as long as we reinvested it at some point.

Reading it back I want to clarify that I don't think ALL the above will go but I expect offers would be considered for any of them as its been made clear we will be reducing the size of the squad and we can't expect any of the dead wood to go until their contracts expire in June. The names mentioned are just those I think other sides would offer money for to take off us.

Who are those at the club who have a (understandable) problem with Brayford's wages? Players, boardroom?

More boardroom and management who have found their financial hands tied by the Clough/Brannigan reckless gamble on a £2m full back last January, if we had won promotion last season it would not be an issue, but the gamble failed and we didn't.

We are teetering on the FFP boundary at the moment.
 
I'd keep Brayford, Long, Done, Sharp and Edgar. I am really interested in what Adkins does now he has had time to assess and this is where he really does earn his money. This could be part 1 of the big clear out. Problem is, who wants them?

We don't really know if we have any cash to spend and that is a good thing. Teams were adding percentages on when we came in last season because they knew we had the dosh. If we are being clever we will just keep trotting out the line of having to downsize and do our business quietly.

Well the board should be taking a look at themselves too because Clough and Brannigan couldn't have got that deal done on their own. It was total stupidity from all involved.
 
Move Done, Adams, Brayford is just selling off the best players again,then fill their spots with the average.The very idea that saw us tumble down the leagues,unable to move back up because of the lack of quality players.
 
Before all the derision starts because we haven't signed anyone at 1 minute past midnight in the morning, can I just point out the window doesn't actually open until Saturday. And then it is only for signing players from England and Scotland (and France!). We will need to wait until Monday before we can sign Messa, Renalda, or any other Spanish, Italian or German players. It closes at 11 pm on Monday 1st February. It does mean though that if we sign anyone to play on Saturday then it can only be on loan as permanent transfers have to be registered by 5 pm the day before a game. Loans can be registered up to three hours before kick off.

I look forward to Monday and the questions as to why we haven't signed anyone yet.

At 1 minute past midnight tonight I won't be asking who we've signed, rather who we've sold.

yeh but to clarify, we can sign players, just not register them until Monday?

I would snap anyone's hands off if they offered that amount of money for Adams. At the moment he is maybe worth 20% of that if we are lucky. Has raw potential but that is it.

As for Hammond ' s loan extension being 'dubious' ? I see it as a must for out promotion push.

Your valuations or Baxter and Done are also way too high as they are probably worth half of what you quote.

I would keep all.of these players thou. I would have thought all those out on loan except McNulty will leave and I suspect Scougall,JCR and Freeman will also go.

Regrettably; the problem we will face is that the majority of the players we need to ship out will be of little interest to other Clubs in our Division or higher.

NA's going to have to work very hard in January / Summer to get rid of the deadwood in our squad ....... but we do need 3 / 4 key players in on either loan or permanent deals to make the play-offs a realistic possibility.

Bart serious question, why would you snap anyone's hand off at 1.5m for Adams when the money won't get reinvested just like it didn't when we sold Murphy, McGuire et al ?

Adams is the only player we have with raw pace and the last player I want to see leave whatever the price !

I think he has flattered to deceive so far . Whilst he has potential,his lack of strength in the air,poor first touch and an apparent lack of a football brain (probably due to inexperience at a high level) means any bid of more than £250k will be unlikely in my opinion. He may achieve a higher level but he is somewhere off this at the moment.Don't get me wrong i would prefer to keep Adams but for me he is not this potential superstar that some fans are makin out. I hope I am wrong.

I wouldn't expect the money to go into the transfer pot...just the wages pot. We have too many players for a third tier club and the Prince will need to see some cash coming in to try and balance the books. Wages saved byselling/ releasing/loaning out 5/6 players in the JTW will mean Adkins can get the loans in he needs for the promotion plus

I would argue that the Maguire money was spent on the 14+ players/loans Clough brought in whilst i think the Murphy money was spent before he left (i.e Adkins knew he was leaving which is why he was allowed to sign the players he did). We may have a small amount of this left for wages but not much.

Hasn't Jimbob stated that the Murphy fee will go into the first team pot? Or is he saying it went into the first team pot and guess what, it's already gone?
