He's in his first Champ season and still developing physically. He could and possibly should (Brooks) have been rested more to keep him fresh and help mitigate his expected inconsistencies. Another year in the Champ would be great for him.
He's seen by other teams as our biggest threat which is the reason they almost all set up as they do: low block, flooding his side with players. Gilchrist makes this easier for them as he doesn't have the pace or natural game to help to break this block. It's usually JRS Vs two or three. It'll be very interesting if we get Hamer central and natural wide man on the left. One of two things will happen imo: teams will defend in a more balanced way opening space up space for JRS, or Hamer and a left winger will have a birthday.
Our attack has suffered from something of an imbalance all season which is not the fault of individual players but the way we are set up.
Having a winger on one side but not on the other.
To accommodate Hamer & O'Hare (who themselves aren't in ideal positions).
It sounds daft , but we have the optimum talent to play 12 a side.
But making the choices in how we set up the attacking 4 is very difficult coz we can only play 11 in total.
Giving O'Hare the freedom to roam and press & tackle means that with his energy he is virtually undroppable.
But so is Hamer. And he'd be better in the middle.
And yet we looked so good at Ewood with 2 strikers.
And we've no natural LW.
It's really going to be a puzzle when BBD is added to the squad
Maybe we can drop one of the holding midfielders for Hamer against the weaker teams at home ?
Once we get Campbell back , CW could decide to play with no wingers in some matches
But if Moore's playing , he could have 2 wingers (if you call BBD a LW) getting crosses in.
