Has agreed a permanent transfer to Torquay according to his Twitter. Good luck to him, think he needed the move for his career.

Next stop, Conference I'm afraid.

Morgan would have had him in the first team squad next season. I think we can call that two lucky escapes.

I thought he was back off on loan, has he said it's permanent?

Hope he enjoys coach journeys and training on local authority fields.

Darren will be so pleased

Darren doesn't have it in for Mr Chappell per se, he is just annoyed by the tendency of some posters to think that because a player has only made less number of appearances in the first team than there are fingers on one hand, despite being with the club for about 5 years, he is somehow some undiscovered superstar whose progress is being held back by the evil machinations of the powers that be at Bramall Lane.

I merely put the counter argument that, if you can't, at the age of 21, even get a regular place on a third division bench, you are really not that good.

Who suggested he was an undiscovered superstar?

I think some suggested he may be worth a place on the bench when we were struggling.

I was being a bit hyperbolic :)

As I recall, the argument went along the lines that he would be worth giving a "chance". My argument was that being at the club for 5 years and failing to impress any of the plethora of managers we had had in that period was all you needed to know.

You're probably right in hindsight but at the point in time when we were struggling to score, create or even come close to creating chances then it really wasn't much of a gamble to give him a place on the bench. He was never going to be a world beater but he may turn out ok for Torquay (who lets not forget, we aren't a million miles apart from these days!). I personally could see the rationale for giving him an opportunity. He has a bit of pace and from what I've seen of the reserves he can have his dangerous moments.

Good luck to him anyway, he'll likely be a name we've forgotten all about in 2 years time.

When people feel the side lacks pace and width it's not strange to suggest that we stop playing slow and poor performers out of position (McAllister, Cresswell, etc) and instead try a squad member who has pace and naturally plays in a wide position. We tried it once last season. We won 4-1 away and although he didn't have a particularly good game, he did more than the two mentioned had in previous games.

This is not the same as saying Chapell is a world beater or superstar.

I was once in Xanadu's in Chesterfield (I know, the shame of it), and claimed I played for Torquay reserves. I instantly became a sex magnet for the local ladies, although admittingly that's not saying much in Chezzy.

Did you finish up at a Premier Inn?

No, for those who were amorous enough, back then, the side alley was the place to be, you always got a special kind of aroma back then, a heady sense that you were stood ankle deep in p**s.

Hey. Every lass I have ever been out with came from Chezzy (now that really is shameful) and I had to tell them all I was in Torquay's first team. So there.

I guess me and Mousey must just look like natural pro-footballers, as we never had to say a word to the couple of bisexual stunners in Escapade, eh Mouse? ;)

The image of those two things will haunt my dreams for eternity.
