A) Who here likes Jon Stead?
B) Does anyone think we should sell him?
C) Does anyone believe he should be starting games?

Well it would seem that Robbo's answers are

A) Not me
B) Give me a decent price
C) No

Why is this though? I wasn't Steads greatest fan at season begining, and I believe I said it wouldn't be too bad if we sold him.

But now, he has shown he is far more than capable of playing at this level and above. It's annoying me that he isn't in the side. There must be a reason for it, and I want Robbo to come out and say why, because from the playing side of things I haven't seen a problem.

He is hungry, wants to score, wants to assist, he is a great help for the team. So why isn't he being started?

I like him, on his day he his a quality player who can produce Charlton, West Ham type goals. He can play up front or on the wing and think he should definitely be given a chance. Clearly things aren't working anymore so surely Robbo has to give him a chance

Whilst not giving him much time on the pitch seems to suggest this, the last comments I heard from Robson and Stead himself were that...

He was very much part of Robsons plans, he had a few things to work on and that he would fight for a starting place.

I'd like to see him in a front pairing on sunday myself.

Yeah Foxy,

I remember an article on OS saying how Robbo was impressed with Stead etc etc, but then he was still on bench the following game.

Nicky Travis has impressed me nearly every time i've seen him play, doesn't mean i'd put him in our starting 11 :)

I do think Mr Stead should be at the very least on Sunday though.

Most preferably Hulse for me

.

Yeah but Robson has more footballing knowledge than any blade ;)

For me he should be in the team, and I'd like to see him in the team with Sharp.

Keogh and Sharp at Scunthorpe had an excellent understanding and bagged plenty of goals together, and when I watch Keogh he reminds me alot of Stead, so I think it could work.

He should be in the team in front of Hulse anyway, who for me hasn't been playing too well since he came back from injury, and should have had at least 3 goals but hasn't bagged any.

It's the hair isn't it :p

A) Who here likes Jon Stead? - I do! Check my favourite player in my profile;) *
B) Does anyone think we should sell him? - No, there are plenty of worse strikers at the club
C) Does anyone believe he should be starting games? Yes, for above reason and the fact hes actually scored this season!!

*Note My favourite players in recent seasons have been Paul Ifil and CKR, so he's on his way i think:D

I have absolutely no idea what your saying there? :)

Do you think any of us have a better knowledge of the game than an ex-world class captain? :)

I'm not saying whether this is the case or not, it was just a bit of tongue in cheek ;)

What I do know is, that whilst the chances are very much stacked in his favour that he will know more about the game than myself, some of his decisions are baffling. I don't understand a lot of his decision, and some of them seem clear cut.

I know that, I just completely miss your meaning of the tongue in cheek response to what I said? it doesn't seem to make any sense, nor reflect the quote? :)

Thats always going to be the case, there will always be decisions you don't understand and with the benefit of hindsight and not knowing the day to day factors it's always easy to say its clear cut that a decision is wrong.

Great Player, Great First touch, decent finisher, good skills.
Gets on with his job and never complains.

Keep him, start him and he will score goals IMO

A number of Robson's decisions, particulary recently, don't need the benefit of hindsight and day-to-day factors to tell you that they were piss-poor, though.

Stead is a decent player and really should be starting ahead of Shelton, Sharp and Webber.

If we are going to sell anyone Id rather it be Shelton.

It was a remark towards what you said to Keenzy in another thread.

Doesn't matter baby :D

I know where it was from, i'm just confused as to how it was related in the slightest to what I said :D

Just saying, its irrelevant what you think, you're a mere peasant :D

I am a big fan of Jon Stead and i think the one thing that puts him ahead of the other strikers is that he offers something to the team even if he isn't amongst the goals.

He drops into the midfield and is comfortable with the ball at his feet.

I actually agreed with Robson when he said that Stead hasn't looked like scoring during his rare apprearances of late but the same can be said of all the other strikers. Stead strikes me as more of the Sheringham type of striker and i think giving him a run along side Beatie would be the best option.

I would prefer to see us off-load shelton and, if a second striker were to be sold, sharp before letting Stead go.

Agree with the sentiment Jodman, but Hulse has been within a whisker a dozen times since his return, Sharp has had the ball in the back of the net twice - once completely onside - and Danny Webber looked as dangerous as ever before his injury so I don't think it's fair to say "all of the other strikers" don't look like scoring.

I take your point, perhaps it is a bit harsh to say that the other strikers don't look like scoring; but 2 disallowed goals in a dozen or so league starts from Billy is not good enough. I'm not wading into the debate about whether the kid can do it at this level but the numbers speak volumes in my opinion especially when you factor in the striking options we have at the club.

I would like to see Webber back in the side eventually but Jon Stead is fully fit and has proven that he can do it at the highest level; it has to be Hulse and Stead for the next half a dozen games for me...Cue Shelton and Beattie at the weekend :)

Without doubt I agree completely. Maybe it's down to the fact that we have too many options up front which I know some people had concerns over. Every striker seems almost too eager to take their chances when they arise as they are so few and far between - often scuffing their shots or shooting rather than passing. That, coupled with the fact that we have no pace and very limited wing-play, makes it very difficult for poacher-types such as Sharp to get many opportunities.

That about sums it up perfectly in my opinion.
