Help me out...what is it that Selles is asking them to do, that is so difficult?

A while ago I was listening Dean Saunders on talksport. To paraphrase what he said ....

This "high press" thing isn't new , its what we used to call " closing down" , your simply asking a professional athlete to sprint for 20 yards , if they have to coached to do this then games gone .

Realise its a simplification but there's some truth in that to ge fair ..
He talks out of his arse no wonder he was such a shit manager
A press is a coordinated ,pre planned way of applying pressure on the opposition
There are varying types of press usually based on the way the opposition trys to play out and setting traps for them to play into .

It's a lot more complicated than just closing down
Dean Saunders is a fucking idiot

Fair points. But since that first half against Bristol City Selles chose to give the players a public on pitch dressing down. Given how fragile egos seem to be these days and how brittle and unable to cope with anything many people seem to be nowadays, I think that was not a good move. It didn't work for Phil Brown at Hull years ago in a less sensitive age, so it was never going to work now.
It's called throwing the players under a bus. He did the same at his 2 previous esteemed clubs Hull & Reading as the majority of their players also hadn't got a clue what he wanted as he's poor at communication. So it's the fault of approx 60 players but not him.

And very good at the level at which we are at now.
Was he? He was decent in patches, injured in patches, then couldn't be arsed in patches.

At no stage did he ever reach 'very good'. He had some great games, but over the course of the season they weren't enough of them.

I'm equally ignorant, but my take is the following, based entirely on the Bristol game (Birmingham was a different team, and I didn't watch yesterday)

He played 433, with two full backs pushing on which is their natural game.

His 3 man midfield consisted of 2 number 10's who play all their best football going forwards and a young number 8, who likes to get around the pitch (playing most of last season alongside Souza, a natural number 6).

In front of them he had 2 wingers and a centre forward. The 2 centre backs are a young lad stapling up from league 1 and a lad who's career has been shot by two horrific injuries.

The result was we got hammered and it seemed that his ask was to play to win 5-4.

The problem is that we didn't score our chances and they did, which saps confidence.

The whole approach looks ridiculously naive in my opinion and will lead to him being sacked if he doesn't change this approach
This sums it up. Terrible naive tactics which dont suit our players skill set.

The fun guys (from training video's at Shirecliffe) were Souza and Brewster loling/ joking around with other players on the grass..they have gone.

I did see Peck and Burrows larking about in the gym like a couple of 13 year olds wagging a school lesson...but it was just them two.

All too serious now from the look on the players faces......doubt Selles will be stopping the coach at an off license on the way home from Swansea.

Has anyone got any footage of Selles having a laugh,with/at anyone ?
Very good point, souza and brewster will surely be missed off rest of squad, who wants to go to work day in day out and it be all serious, not when that's what you been used to for soo long. They must feel deflated and if selles is intense and boring, we'll it usually takes a couple of week for sertraline to kick in and then hopefully we may see improvement although masked some what.
