Why sign players and not give then a fair crack ? Johnson’s looked lively and is much more attacking than Stevens same with Washington ? Why not bring him on for half an hour ?

Johnson had 5 minutes today and gave the ball away that led to their goal.

Washington has been on a few times and run around a lot.

Norwood and Egan were signed, played well, and kept their place.

Perhaps the answer is there somewhere.

Stevens didn't look attacking because no-one wanted to pass it to him today for some reason. Well, it didn't look like it anyway.

As for Johnson, he cocked that up, I have a hazy recollection of Donaldson last season doing something similar when he didn't take it to the corner and we conceded, and he's not done his chances of getting game time any favours for a while I imagine. I can't see him as a straight swap for Enda though, maybe as an option in midfield over Lundstram.

Washington I have hopes for. I think he'd be at least as good as any other attacker we have on the bench, but he probably needs to show it more in training or something. Think he'll eventually be a common site.

I think Woodburn being the lightning rod for transfer deal criticism has slightly diverted attention away from Johnson & Washington. I wouldn’t be at all bothered to see us send Johnson back in January, and we’re almost certainly looking to upgrade on our strikers in the window that would push Washington further down the pecking order.

Or perhaps the answer lies in that Egan and Norwood cost good money and were recognised as 2.of the best players in the league in their positions.

In contrast Washington and Johnson are either on a free or a loan from a club who has the same target as us and deem them not good enough.

January is vital and we have to get at least 2 first 11 players in if we don't want to see the season fizzle out like last year

It's easy to say players who aren't playing are better than they are, but I think we all know that neither are good enough.

I’m not saying there world beaters it was the same with Leonard last year, and he’s doin pretty well at Millwall
And no a player can’t be judged by coming on for 10 minutes

Perhaps. It certainly isn’t in dropping any of the players who got us a few points off the top.

My point is that it's not just Johnson's fault, eight of our men were in the box to two of theirs, yes Norwood passed it to the scorer but what were the others doing? Not picking players up for one example. Bad defending at it's best. Pardon the pun but there is no defence for defending like that.

My kids are looking forward to Christmas. They will open up their X box and new bike respectively and throw themselves at them. They will play with their stocking fillers for about 5 minutes.

Does that expalin it?

File the pair of them under Woodburn, Leonard, Holmes, Bryan and Hengan. All of which seem utterly pointless signings thus far.

It's a long season and with the compressed run of fixtures coming up into Christmas and beyond we could see a lot of fringe players getting more of a run out.
Johnson didn't help his chances today but I think he'll contribute over the rest of the campaign.
Billy needs someone else alongside him to chip in with goals more often than McG and Clarke are doing, so I wouldn't be surprised if Washington got a chance soon.
We do lack game changers though, especially from the bench. Some canny transfer activity is required in January, hopefully an upgrade on Woodburn and in a perfect world Luke Freeman. Based on today I would also sign a nasty fucker to change things up in the middle of the park.

No it doesn’t

You win some, you lose some. As is the way when you “bottom fish”.

Several chances? Norwood wasn't aware of Bashams position and knocked the ball to the Rotherham players path. No one else in the box got a look in.
I think he means Stevens who should have put man and ball in the stand,as it was he made a powderpuff challenge and the cross was made via Norwoods flick.

Agree with some of that. I think we missed a chance in not signing Jack Marriott. I watched a lot of Waghorn playing for Rangers. He was a bit of a one trick pony who didn`t do enough often enough. A view of Marriott`s goals last season, a fine collection for any player, never mind a young player, convinced me he was a far better target than Waghorn. Looking at the reported figures for a possible Waghorn deal we could probably have got him.
Re your last point, I think it needs to be a forward. A 6 ft 4 inch Billy Whitehurst would be a good`un.
