Forgot to say when we played Newcastle's first team in a friendly last summer McGinn didn't look out of place against Cabaye and Ben Arfa.

When he was subbed Alan Pardew applauded him off the park. That says a lot about the boy.

I can understand the frustration with that valuation, but this is likely influenced to a large extent by the valuations of other players we've bought from Scotland relatively cheaply. Flynn and Murphy have just had excellent seasons and the Scottish press reported their fees as £150k and £100k respectively, with the reported fee for McNulty is £125k - for a lad coming off a season where he's scored 19. Scougall was apparently £400k - perhaps that's more towards what we'd be willing to pay.

Whilst I agree about influences, there has to be a little perspective. Jamie Murphy was in the last 6 months of his contract with Motherwell and was flogged on cheaply rather than losing him for next to nothing.

As for the other lads, Scougall, McNulty, Flynn and Bob Harris all played at a level below our own. None of these guys seemed to get much attention up here as major prospects for the future, certainly not to the level that Graham Dorrans, Robert Snodgrass, Wes Hoollahan or Leigh Griffiths did when they all played at Livingston. The fact that a few of them are doing so well at the Blades is a quite encouraging prospect.

To put it into context, John McGinn's contract is up at the end of next season. If he leaves and joins a club in England (which he has said he wants to do...eventually), we will be due a development fee for him if he transfers to a club down south (or anywhere else out with Scotland). This would mean by the end of next season, 10 seasons worth of development fees, at a rate of 60k per season.

The only issue is that if Celtic swoop in and sign him (a very real prospect, given the family ties), then we'd get around about 1/8th of this.

I have a soft spot for St Mirren ,I used to work at Rolls Royce Hillington quite a lot and went to Love Street a few times. Do you guys like your new ground or do you wish you still had Love street.
And how will you vote for Independence ?

BM poster who apparently called the McNulty/JCR deal correctly, has just posted that McGinn has signed

Things are moving at pace if true

If the Smith deal is done then it's Smith, McGinn, McNulty and Campbell Ryce.

Add Connor Sammon, Conor Coady and a right back and we're done! Well, maybe another Striker for good measure.

To be fair we probably have the least flamboyantly named players in football ,you can keep your Mertesackers ,Azpilicuetas ,Demichelis's, and Frimpongs etc give me Doyles ,Harris ,and Butlers or Andy Bob and Michael instead of Per ,Fernando and Nemanja any day of the week :)

I still dream for a day when we have a rock solid Argentinian nutcase at Centre Back, Parrino was the last chance. Palace and Southampton pick them up

We miss Love St but realised it had to be done. Tesco cleared our debt and built a 8000 seater stadium which suits our fan base better and saved the club from closure.

New stadium feels like home now after our first trophy win whilst residing there.

As for Independence I'm a huge Yes man. For me it's nothing to do with hating England it's all about creating a fantastic country and getting rid of Westminster. We have the potential and don't see why it won't work. What do you guys think?

Better Together are scare mongers and haven't gave 1 single reason why we are better together.

Always been impressed by St Mirren's football whenever I've chanced on a TV game. No idea whether I've just been a lucky viewer…

As for independence, I think it would be a very sad moment all round.

You guys leaving mean more chance of a Conservative government for us. But it also might mean an 'Independence for Yorkshire' campaign. So pretty much a mixed bag ;)

If Scotland should decide to go it alone it will be a disaster for all concerned, England would have a permanent Tory government and the Scots would lose the benefits such as the free health care they currently enjoy, I see a lone Scotland as a country of mass unemployment propped up by money from North Sea oil. If the SNP said it were raining I'd go out and check, it is not only Scotland the Tories don't give a toss about the same can be said of anywhere north of Watford,

We do like to get the ball on the deck and play football from the goalkeeper outwards. Sometimes it pays off sometimes our defender slips on his arse and we lose a goal haha.

It would maybe be said but very exciting for us. I don't like the way the UK is going now. UKIP getting way too much attention for my liking.

Ha ha, if the North of England had the chance of Independence would you guys take it? Of course, I really hope my fellow countrymen seize this chance. The Torys are more punishing the poor whilst giving tax breaks to huge Oil companies and bankers bonuses. Its all wrong.

Why do you think that mate? The Tories are single handedly selling off the NHS. We can't take the risk to be a part of that. Scotlands health service is safe for just now but for how long. As for the oil money well Norway discovered it the same time the UK did. They have invested it wisely and now they are booming. They say we are half way through the oil now, I think we are capable of handling it ourselves.

Its not about the SNP or oil though. We want our vote to count for something, we are being told by private school millionaires whats best for us, they have no idea the poverty this country is in. In this day and age thousands of families are having to use foodbanks. Whilst MP's are claiming expenses and drinking fancy wine every day at Westminster. It's not right and its not working for us.

If we go Independent we get a freedom to choose who we want. I like the look of the Green party up here. Labour and Lib Dems are pretty much finished and theres no way we'll vote in a Tory Goverment up here.

No question, if I was Scottish I'd vote for independence, the crazy thing is my brother in law is Scottish but because he lives in England he can't vote and my niece is born and bred English but has been working in Edinburgh for 3 years and she can. It's not without its flaws this referendum is it? Perhaps even more bizarrely my niece has a chance of running for Scotland in the commonwealth games.

I do wonder how Scot's think they will somehow be better off if they go it alone, do they see North Sea oil paying for everything ? lets face it there is little else in the way of industry north of the border even the RBS is bust and propped up by the mainly English tax payers. Having said that there is little in the way of industry in England Maggie made sure of that, little wonder all the money is in the south east close to the London banks, can't we just extend Scotland down to say as far south as Birmingham ?

Tee Hee sounds like us when David Weir was in charge, OK if you are scoring goals but we were not even looking likely to score in a brothel and soon found ourselves bottom of the third division.

My son is based at Lossiemouth ,he is English and will have spent 2 months out of the last 2 years there ,however he gets to vote. The military vote is a very large one and if independence is the option it will have very interesting consequences.
