After getting over the disappointment from last night, just wanted to praise John Lundstram for his performance. Thought he was outstanding (until he had to play a different role after Fleck was sent off), and was a contender for MOM. He's really starting to come good, and I think we all may be pleasantly surprised with him in the near future. 2 good feet, does all the simple things well, and has a little burst of pace to get himself away from other players. Been a lot of pressure on the lad, and I'm delighted he starting to prove people wrong.

i wish he would attack the space more but agree otherwise

2nd half he was excellent. Still lacking a bit of confidence at times but he is getting better every game. As Wilder has said these are players who are playing at this level for the first time in their career. They aren't going to come straight in tearing it up. Our signings in January are likely to be similar. Long term though they should prove to be real assets

He looks a very tidy player, a player that can also pick a pass. I know we shouldn't compare him to Coutts but to be fair I think comparisons are inevitable. Personally I think he has been a fantastic replacement, he sometimes lacks the composure of Coutts but that will come with age / experience. I think Wilder has picked another gem up.

He was brilliant. Thankfully it seems he may be adequate cover for Coutts after all. He isn’t as good, but he can do a job.

I think he coukd look loads better without Fleck. He'll have the same responsibility he had at Oxford and that might be a role that suits him more?

Totally agree.

John Lundstrum is slowly but surely getting better every game.

It reminds me of when Coutts joined, initially underwhelming but gradually turned into a class act.

Remember Lundstrum is still very young but he has a great pedigree, being captain and best player of Oxford at such a young age.

It wouldn’t surprise me if he becomes a big asset for us and even eclipses what Coutts brings to the team.

Lundstrums displays are one of the few positives during our recent run of poor results.

Glad some are starting to see him like that now. Extremely unfair how quickly he was written off given he'd barely had any time at the club and was expected to immediately fulfill a role that coutts has perfected over the course of a season and a half. Unrealistic expectations by those slagging him off coupled with Lundstram being a convenient scape goat for the disappointment of losing coutts.

I can't help but think he's been watching videos of coutts or atleast trying to mimic his style of play with the ball at his feet? Not sure if it's just me but he seemed to be trying to almost glide with the ball a bit like coutts does. He has also gained a yard of pace in my opinion, most likely due to game time.

More to come from him I'm sure of it. Give him as much time as coutts has had to perfect his role and lets see how it goes. Full faith that wilder and co have picked a talent in him, who will improve with confidence and most importantly playing time.

Next few games for him will be interesting , having to adapt to an new position in a pivotal role whilst also missing the combativeness and directness of fleck. Having said that, carruthers has a great opportunity now, will need to take it.

Looks very good, he's really exciting me.

Reckon he could come up with a few goals too.

Best player on the park for me.

I agree with this, I thought he was outstanding last night. Some of his passing is inspired. Just seems like maybe 1 in 20 passes leaves you thinking who was that meant to be to.

It’s almost as if a young player who has never played at this level before, and is a new member of the squad needed a bit of time to settle in.

He’s been great ever since he came in for Coutts in the circumstances IMO and I fully agree with the OP that he was a contender for man of the match yesterday.

It's great we're signing players who are on an upward curve - it's been paying off for a year already and will continue to do so.

What worries me slightly is this transfer philosophy is all down to Wilder. It takes balls to do it this way because a manager is only a few games from the sack at any time. Blackwell, Robson and co all wanted established players and it cost us a decade of failure.

Does the regime above Wilder have enough about it to maintain this method across managerial tenures?

He looked very promising, I have to agree. He's improving gradually with each game. What he has to work on though is:

  1. Staying switched on when the other team have the ball.
  2. Taking on the quarter back role that Coutts plays. I.e. when Basham or O'Connell bomb forward, Coutts always drops back in. Without this, we'll be exposed.

Fair comments above, he isn't Coutts and never will be so he is on a hiding to nothing. So who is going to cover for Fleck has to be the $64k question?

Me & the bloke I sat next to last night (more like huddled up to keep warm) had this conversation about Lundstram.
Does a lot of stuff right then the odd stray pass or gets lost when not on the ball.
Heartened by his progress though and whilst he’s not Coutts, he’s good cover for him & is starting to look like a reliable & dependable CM who’s growing nicely into his role.
Long may it continue.

Can't really add much to what has already been said but I agree, he grew into the game yesterday and is steadily improving. Looks like he'll be a good player for us.

Good ball player who doesn’t do much wrong but I still see him as more of a box to box midfielder, like every midfield player should be able to do instead of the sitting role he’s trying to do now.

He could prove to be a very shrewd bit of business indeed!

Im glad he's showing improvement to his game ,
Goal v scabs , and played pretty well last couple of games
And I for one was pleased he didn't give the moaners anything to say during the last couple of games
It could have destroyed his confidence ,
and I'm happy our manager is showing faith in him , but then I support every player who puts on our shirt
With only 2 exceptions

I couldn’t make it but listened to it and Edwards was making a conscious effort to highlight all his positive work quite clearly to counter balance the fans negative opinion (he said as much) if Edwards notices it then surely Lundstram does.maybe this effects his confidence?
