He had a bad game today. Who didn't. But still one of our best players.

Penalty after they got down our right hand side with him up the field.

Then a few mins later he fails to control a simple throw in, gives ball away, and 10 seconds later it's 0-2.

If only we had some competition for him to keep him on his toes.

He gave the ball away on both occasions that led up to the 1st penalty and the second goal.

Didn't look the same player as before when he came back last season, and has looked worse since the injury.

And yes Worringly he is still one of the better players.

First goal was down to Basham( I think ) sliding in when he didn't have t and needlessly gave away the penalty. Whilst Brayford initially gave the ball away for the 2nd the marking and tracking go the goal scorer on our left was non existent

The first was Basham and Brayford, first Brayford didn't give Basham a good angle for the pass, Basham played a poor pass and gave them a throw in, Brayford tried to intercept the throw in but lost the ball and got caught out of position, their man had a free run into the box, Basham (?) put in a stupid challenge.

I didn't see all of what happened with the second - I was probably doing something more interesting than watching the game like looking at my shoes or scraping dirt out of my fingernails.

He gave away possession under little pressure from our own throw in, in our own half. That makes him culpable.

The defending after was at its comedic best I agree, but that's what started it all off.

Brayford looks like he has lost some pace after his injury - which means he cant run that line as quickly, hence us being exploited down that side.

It's not so much that Brayford has lost pace he's been put on the back foot too often because teams are finding too much room down our right side, any defender left exposed to a good attacking player will be in trouble and in any case his main strengths are going forward ((wing back) but we are finding it difficult to use his strengths as the balance in the team is not there. One thing for sure and it shows in every game home and away!! is our lack of pace it's a problem in every area of the pitch , every manager we have had (Wilson ,weir, clough )never got
to grips with it and so far Adkins hasnt.Everyone in football knows this is a must in every successful team ,hope that's at the top of your wish list Nigel! !.Our defence and every defence in football is shit scared of it,but we don't (blades)seem to think it's such a big deal that must change.

The second goal is something we have seen time and time again that never gets adressed. People seemingly scared of putting a tackle in, backing off and giving way too room for the towards . Terrible play

This diamond midfield system is meant to protect the middle.
It narrows the formation and leaves no cover for the full backs to bomb forward. I suspect that has a lot to do with why Brayford is making fewer overlapping runs.
Also reduces the opportunity to cross from wide areas.
The formation is meant to drive through the middle to support a front pair of strikers but ours is so pedestrian that is barely gets into the opposition half - only the front of the diamond - in support so the effect is we sit deeper and deeper and concede possession regularly.

It was probably done for two reasons.
1. To accommodate Hammond in the midfield
2. To protect the centre of the back 4 which has been so vulnerable to date.

The effect is we are trying to frustrate any attacking intent from the opposition (a tactic you normally deploy against a far superior side in, say, a cup match - yet we are deploying it against every club in this shit league :o ) - BUT it isn't working.
We are still not keeping it out of one end and we barely trouble the keeper at the other end.

Truly shameful.

If anyone's after a bollocking for the goals it surely has to be Basham. Is it his job to make it fucking easier for the opposition to glide through midfield? Mind you, who was meant to be assisting him in midfield? Nowhere to be seen. Seems to me everyone was dire in the lead up to both goals.
Also, in response to the thread... again... I guarantee questions wouldn't be asked if the board or Clough sorted Maguire's contract/or didn't sell him, bought Conor Coady + John Brayford no matter what the price was, and replaced Baxter with a real striker like Matt Done. We saw the potential in the team that Clough built in his first season so why did we have to go about things on the cheap? The club is fucking dying with the incompetence at all levels at the club. Fans however, immaculate.

Unfortunately he's our most saleable player and Adkins didn't sign him. So don't expect him here next season.

In view of his wages I think we will have to sell him to the highest bidder ( 500k ?) and cut our losses

That's all well and good in a logical world, but the odds of us replacing him adequately are so slim I wouldn't dream of selling him.

ideally you are right but will the fall out between the Board and the Prince( despite what Phipps says there is a fall out and Phipps/Green are running the club at the moment...source: chairman of a local football club) i think decisions like this will be made as i fear there will be no investment until the dispute is resolved

Put Flynn at RB (his best spell at the club) and Brayford center mid alongside Basham.

He'll be sold as part of the "rebuilding" no doubt about that.
Just for his own situation - he wouldn't want another season in this shit league. He didn't move for the money, he moved for the good times, an affinity with something going forward, where the collective energy was bright and positive. Look at us now. We are a million miles away from that vision that JB bought into.

The shitter will be when we sell JB and have to offer Colons ( ;) )and McEveley new deals :o

(Although, to be fair to JMac he has been one of the "better" performers, recently)
