Has he ever played without distinction for SUFC? If not, he's outside the official S2 recruitment criteria and, as such, ineligible for transfer to the Blades.

I doubt he'd come to us but if he did it would be a great signing and a definite improvement on McMahon

Clough said on the radio he was interested in Stead? Is that ok now?

He said Jon Stead and Connor Sammon were on a list of about 15 together with just about any Championship striker not currently in a first team.

My word, he must be considering one or two who haven't previously played for us. A daring, nay revolutionary, approach.

So. out of all those your hero signed in the summer, how many had played for us previously?

I hear Nyron Nosworthy might be available.

Claude Davis, anybody?

Reminds me of a time pre-season 2007-08. Derby had just been promoted to the PL with that excellent manager Paul 'Jimmy' Jewell - the one who amassed all of 11 points.

We'd just been relegated in May by Wigan, Warnock had left and Derby had just signed Nosworthy's love-child (Davis). I was talking to a Rams fan and he said 'Warnock's problem was that he signed too much over-expensive crap.'

I replied, 'Have you ever seen Claude Davis?'

We paid £3m for him, but recouped it from Derby which prompts me to re-use a GIF I've just found:

A great testimonial, being described as a "Cardiff flop"!

It is natural for Clough to look at those players who have previously played for him at Derby or elsewhere.

Bassett signed a load of ex Wimbledon and Watford players for us in his first few years. Not many of them were big names, but all could do a job for us.

Managers like to sign players that they know they can get the best out of and know will work well under them, so as you say it's natural.

When Clough spoke of Brayford a month or so ago he seemed to think that a player of his type would fit in well with what he wants from full backs/ wingers

Wasn't it billy Davies who got derby promoted, not that it changes your point any but it would throw into question my rapidly receding memory, the only things I've ever been able to remember are football related

You're right, Scoob. Promotion to the PL via play-off final 2007 (possibly the same day we lost to Wigan...)
From Wikipedia:

William McIntosh  "Billy" Davies (born 31 May 1964)

In Davies's first season as Derby manager he led them to third place in the league and then won the play-offs after defeating Southampton in the semi-finals and then West Bromwich Albion at Wembley Stadium, ending Derby's five-year absence from the top flight. Davies signed a one year extension to his contract. Derby struggled in the Premier League, gaining only six points from fourteen games. After criticising Derby's board for lack of investment, Davies left Pride Park by mutual consent in November 2007 with the club bottom of the league. Some critics believed that Davies was a victim of his own success after overachieving in his first season at Pride Park, while others cited his apparent tactical inefficiencies at top flight level, poor big money signings (including £3m Claude Davis) and suggested Davies had engineered his own departure, in the form of an outspoken rant against the board so as to avoid having a relegation on his CV.

Funnily enough didn't Nyron go on to have quite a good season with Watford after sucking with us?

I have just had a tweet from a good blade friend of mine telling me that Brayford and Scougall trained with the rest of the squad up at Shirecliffe this morning at that both are to be unveiled in the next couple of hours? Apparently it was meant to be a triple unveiling but due to Blackpool pulling the plug on Harris it is supposedly just the 2 of them.

As per usual I am not totally sure about the truth of this rumours but a source of the tweet said that this came from a youth player within the club but again I don't know what truth there is in that.

Have to wait and see though, it will be a cracking double coup if true!

Same story appears in the Sheffield Telegraph mate, so at least there appears to be some substance in what you've heard. UTB

IF true then both are good bits of business, Brayford will be a coup as for me he's at least Championship standard and he'll be an upgrade on Tony McMahon. Scougall like most people i would assume i havent seen play only read and seen bits on him but he sounds like a player with potential.

The people who know things (ie imminent signings) only trust such information to people they know can keep their gums together - and believe me, there's nobody more persistent at digging for info than me - and for that reason I always draw the conclusion that anyone who fires off supposed 'ITK' on forums or social media is either;

a) guessing
b) lying
c) betraying the trust of friends

Whichever of the above, and whether this happens to be true or not, its poor form to plaster on the internet what you have been told in good faith.

Great stuff, particularly Brayford.
He's class.

Guess Scougall is more of a risk but looks an exciting addition to the squad.

UTB!
