Seriously though, is this a trap to see if Evans has sorted himself out yet?
One man's trap is another man's opportunity I suppose?
I don't know why you would see it as a "trap" personally? It's a chance for Ched to get back into playing regular football. If, as we may be led to understand, a lack of regular football is all that is keeping him from performing at a higher level, this will be an ideal opportunity. If however, he's just been out of the game for too long to ever be able to get back to the level he was at before, then this will reveal that also. So, I think it's a great move for him and for Sheffield United. Because both parties will learn something from it that will help them make the best decision in the future.
I desperately want Ched to do well. I know he's been an idiot and all that. But my memories of him in that last season he played for us will stay with me forever. After failing to impress in the two seasons previous, he was like a man possessed in that season, under Danny Wilson. I've seen some good centre forwards at Bramall lane over the decades - but that lad's performance in his last season was at least on a par, if not ahead, of any of them. He was simply unplayable at times - fantastic to watch. I think every Blade ought to want to see something like that again from him - but I also appreciate some Blades resent him being back at the club in the first place and don't feel we should have given him that chance to get his life back, after what happened. I'm not one of them.
Unfortunately the "other stuff" still hangs over him doesn't it? But to suspect this is a trap because he's been sent to Fleetwood, which is near to Blackpool, which is famous for sleazy night clubs, is a step too far for my imagination I'm afraid. And I don't think there's anything in Blackpool that would likely tempt him into bad behaviour, over and above what's available here in Sheffield, or in his homeland of North Wales.
