Look all I was told a few months back was Chris wilder wouldn't get any money to spend in jan.... Post it on here only to be shot down..... The quote came the Prince won't be sownding anymore money till he knows the whole football club is.... The only players we would be signing in jan would be loans and free transfers..... Unless we sold first..... Again iwas shot down for this... But the more we here from Chris wilder the more I'm starting to believe what my sourse told me

But it's up to you lot if you believe or not
... Only a few weeks to find out if its true or not

The problem though is that just before you came on here telling us you’d ‘been told’ that the Prince wasn’t going to spend any money in January you had also been on here to tell us that you’d ‘been told’ that the Prince wanted to make a big name signing in January.

Unfortunately for you it’s possible to look back at all the posts you’ve made and it’s easy to see how they contradict what you’ve previously said.

We dont need a big window, summer was bigger than any of us ever suspected it would be.

Hang on to what weve got in the match day squad, get some cover for Basham (Rodwell?) and opportunistically look to pick up anyone who might be decent value (few and far between in January)

I'd be amazed if we spend big money on a forward, especially now McBurnie is starting to come good.

Two positions we will have to sort out in the next 2 windows are a permanent keeper and another 'McGoldrick' as so much goes through him when hes out he will be a big loss.

Can you please look back and point these post out then please about Me saying we are signing big name ayer in jan

Being linked in the papers with with Man U. McBurnie's best mate. Wonder if we could still move for him. Looks a real talent.

We're going to need a Bash replacement at some point and this kid looks a pretty good fit. That being said if Manure are indeed interested then that ends our chances. They'll just blow us out of the water in both fee and wages.

This in no way diminishes my view on Bash. He has been incredible this season but he's not getting any younger.

You're right mate, on wages and fees alone we'd not stand a chance, but, and this might seem a secondary consideration, the opportunity to play regularly would be something a player might wish to consider. The question almost answers itself, and of course you could amass a sizeable chunk of money that might provide for you and yours once your career is over.......but if game time is your consideration then playing under a manager like Wilder might be something you'd wish to consider.
It's a bit of a stretch I know, but even with the chasm in wages that exists between either club, maybe a player might wish to have regular playing time (this assumes he's good enough) at a club like the Blades.........and one question that I hope might find an answer, does anyone have the foggiest regarding what our first team regulars get paid? They received a hike in wages when they were promoted, so are they now receiving upwards of £25-30K per week?

Totally agree mate. There are still some players out there who value playing over money, especially if we get into Europe. and his best mate is already here which is helpful.

The only thing i'd say with that though is would he be guaranteed playing time here either? Would be incredibly harsh on Bash, who's stats are up there with the best in the league but I suppose CW has shown he can be ruthless when he wants to be. I just can't see it though. It's obvious from all the video interviews on YouTube that Bash is probably the most popular member of the squad so dropping him would be a massive call on CW's part when there hasn't been a sniff of a drop off in performance levels to justify it. With that in mind the lad might decide if he's got to fight for his place then he's better off doing on a far bigger salary.

Re our salaries i'd hazard a guess, and it's only a guess, that the top end (Fleck, JOC, McB, Moose etc) are probably on between £30k and £40k per week with the rest of the 1st team squad on between £20k and £30k per week.

Now for the average man on the street they are huge amounts but in Premier League terms it's pretty much pauper level. The acid test will be if one of the big payers (pretty much everyone bar us and Norwich) came in for someone like Fleck for instance. Now we may be in a position to reject the bid but the salary on offer may well be tempting the player. At this point we'll either have to give them a hefty pay rise or let them go. If we go down the pay rise route then that opens everyone else wanting one potentially.

Panos Retsos will be Basham’s replacement if he proves to be as good as suggested

Do bear in mind that there would be a clause stating that should relegation happen so would a lowering in their current wage too. Which I know doesn't impact on the here and now. We're all interested in how much we can earn, so I'd never wag a disapproving finger at any player if they're offered double or more what they're currently earning, and I'd include our manager in that equation. I understand that some supporters will argue that sentiment would ensure that Wilder would remain, but as the great man himself has stated, sentiment isn't something he's interested in.

Agree about who might earn what, and no doubt the longer we remain in the Prem, the greater our chances of paying more as the seasons roll around, given our crowds, the increase in sponsorship that will come our way, and whatever other financial opportunities that present themselves, a time will present itself with a Blade being the first to be paid £60-80K a week. As you say, by Prem terms not a fortune, but still enough to make a player consider where he might wish to ply his trade.

Re. Bash - currently Bash is a shoo-in when it comes to being on the team sheet. An exceptional and underrated player who has been superb for this club. Regarding his present and future, well so much depends on how fit he remains, but given that he's rated as one of our fittest players it would take a severe drop in form for any player to replace him. As you say, our manager puts everyone under constant review, so having back-up for every player is a must, so no doubt even Bash would need to maintain his best form not to lose his place. It makes me think of Luke Freeman, if it had been any other player than Fleck I'm sure we'd have seen Luke playing far more often, but them's the terms and conditions, so players need to grasp what's at stake.

Regarding players queuing for a pay rise, I'd love to be a fly on the wall as Wilder gives then the facts of life and sends 'em on their way. Remember Mark Duffy lads, and he scored a corked at the sty so what chance the rest of you???

Great post mate.

Re the £60-£80k bracket I reckon within 2 years the majority of the 1st team will be on that. Hell we may even have our 1st £100k a week player by then. Who knows.

That also got me thinking back. We've in effect already had a player on £60k plus as Beattie was on £40k back in 2007 in the championship. I believe at that point it was highest wage ever for the division. Strange to think we may have played a part in starting the, quite frankly, ridiculous wages in that division.

Absolutely no chance of this.

An average wage of 70k a week for the first team squad of 25 equals £90m+ a year before you've even started paying for anything else. We'd be wound up penniless within 12 months

Yeah I understand that which is why I said 1st team not 1st team squad. We are a long long way off having an average wage of £70k a week across the whole squad

All hyperthetical but say we do qualify for the Europa League this year and do pretty well in it. We also do well in the league again next season and push the Top 4 again but just miss out as we’re just missing that game changer player or top top striker that would see us to the next level. Are you saying the club wouldn’t potentially pay upwards of £80k a week if that player was available after 2 years of European competition and the obvious massive upturn in revenues that will have been generated?

That's exactly what I'm saying. We can't afford an average wage of 50 or 60k. How do you manage a squad with one player on 80k and everyone else on 30k?

Nobody taking Bash's place until he's not top dog at the 5 mile runs anymore!
