This kid looks like he's got something about him - and I agree with the poster who says if Lafferty isnt fit on Sat, he should be given his debut.

Cheers. Looks like we'll be reverting to 4 at the back then (not convinced if so) unless either of Lafferty or Freeman are down for losing their place, which seems unlikely given how he speaks about the both of them. That said it seems a strange position to recruit in but I trust Wilder knows what he's doing so it'll be reyt.

I’d say his versatility means it’s anything but a strange position to recruit in. We’ve no real depth in the wing back positions so bringing in an option who can cover both and potentially allow us to change formation as and when required makes perfect sense. You know, IF he’s any good. He surely has to be an upgrade on Reece Brown if nothing else.

I reckon he’ll be on the bench to start with. Can see him coming on for Lafferty when we’re chasing a goal in games and then it’s up to him to see if he can force him out of the team.

This caps off a very good start to the transfer window, and he would've already been here for 2 weeks had he not been injured.

In Riley and Carruthers we've signed two high calibre players who between them cover most positions on the pitch. And we've not even had to spend a lot to get them in. So we're covering as many positions as possible whilst spending as little as possible for the quality we're getting.

It represents optimal use of the budget, minimising disruption to the existing squad whilst leaving more space to make further signings. Usually you'd have to sign at least three players to cover the positions these two do, but Wilder's found a way to avoid that, and that's beneficial both financially and footballistically - we've got more left to spend and haven't taken up much space in the squad.

This is logical, intelligent management from Wilder. It's obvious that he and his staff are organised, thorough and plan properly.

It's an excellent move from Riley's point of view. It's a perfect place to prepare for playing for Man Utd - big crowd, top of the league, pressure etc.

From what I've seen of him his best position will be LWB. He naturally seems to dribble the ball inside but is probably better carrying the ball from deep driving into space than he is receiving the ball with a full back to beat in the final third. He looks comfortable on either side though, so he really could play anywhere. I'd expect him to be an option on the wing late on in games.

Do you also write for the Sheffild United press office Rickster? If not, you should consider it.......;)

Just watched the video on United's site. Seems like a level headed lad and very eager to get on the pitch, so promising noises from our loanee.

On whose site?
That better be Sheffield United, Blood.
Otherwise thal av to get thisen a tin at

Good stuff.
Looking forward to seeing the lad play...

I'm so positive about this. I mean what happened to Chapman and Carruthers and people say things come in threes doesn't concern me.

I wonder if he's aware of the injury he's going to suffer in the very near future

Is there any chance, if Wilder wants him, he could join us permanently or is he highly rated and is probably part of there plans

Forget my question, just read the view from from Roy, no chance!

From all accounts he's not far off his first team opportunity with MU. I'd guess that JM will involve him with the first team over the summer and see how he responds.

One never knows Boxer if we're in the championship it could happen.Man Utd have a history of young players not quite making it there and being sold on .
He's 20 and although that is very young with funds they have in the transfer market he might not find it easy to break through.Danny Webber is a good example refused a new contract and we snapped him up..But let's see what he's got to offer before we start getting our knickers in a twist.

Let's get a chant going for him to the tune of Frank Zappa's "Peaches en Regalia" ...

Dee, dee, dee, dee dee, RILEY,
Dee, dee, dee, dee dee RILEY!
Dee dee, da da da, dee dee,
Dee dee, diddly dee RI-LEEEEEEY!!
etc

Maybe to the tune of Caravan's "In the land of grey and pink"?

Say,

"In the land of SUFC,
Carruthers always deals,
The sweetest through ball,
The world has ever seen ....
Except (sotto voca) when he's injured"

What do you all think?
