Happy with either of Dunne or Darling. Neither of them are Harry Souttar, but we were never going to be able to replace him. We'll even struggle in the summer if we get promoted to find someone as good
Souttar was a good fit for us But he's not prem material, going up scares the shite out of me we are levels below even the so called lesser teams as least year showed

Think we all know what will happen mate if we go up, several slappings and back to the Championship with some more money 💰
and thats the problem for all championship clubs isnt it tj every chance the 3 that went up last season will be heading back down its almost a closed shop the premier league forest have only got where they are by throwing millions at it and breaking the rules

If we go up and Mackems don't , there's Chris Mepham ?
Or we might even have got the international scouting system by then

The only way of counteracting this would be for the PL to give the 3 promoted clubs a kind of 'golden hello' - perhaps in the form of an interest-free loan - to give them any chance of competing with clubs already there.

But this won't happen and once the top 17 get firmly fixed and the notion of promotion/relegation is but a myth , it could well become an officially closed shop with so many US-owned clubs.

It is a closed shop already don't give them ideas to make it compulsory.

yes agree think its only a matter of time before either the top 8 join a european league and the format theyve used for the champions league this season is a forerunner for that imo or the premier league goes to 18 teams with just 2 up 2 down each season

Just mentioned on another thread but Hughes at Hull would be a good shout if we go up to replace soutter. And I wouldn't be against getting soutter in as well if Leicester go down (depending on how he recovers from his injury).

Lets not get carried away with ourselves. We are a Championship club looking for promotion. Lets deal with the PL when/if we get there.....

manage the manageable's....

If it is Dunne I'm fairly sure Dunne got player of the season last season and I think he's only recently converted to a RB, I e this season?

So if that's true he can't be that bad at centre back!

He's been playing RB longer than you suggest.

I'll be disappointed with Jimmy Dunne coming in as a CB.
He's only ever done well at RB.

I'm not keen on either, but would prefer Darling on the basis he is actually a CB.
Darling is also a decent footballer on the deck which could be useful if we're going down the Souza / Choudhury axis.

Change to a 3 at the back with Dunne playinh RCB? Seriki and Burrows WB? Formation change to 3412?
The signings do make it look this way. Would be a massive gamble though (and very harsh on JRS)

He's played every minute of every league game this season with 4 goals and 1 assist to his name. Scored against us at the Lane. Also sat on 6 yellow cards.

Not quite Souttar dominance in the air, but pretty decent.

think a 3412 set up would suit us but doubt its going to happen having said that clarke and burrows would be excellent wingbacks but would mean no wingers and a question mark with bbd and o'hare but do think campbell and cannon as a front 2 with hamer given a free duffy type role could be very interesting 🤔

As you say - it won`t happen because there zero, in fact less than xero, benefit to the PL of making any team coming up more competitive.

In the top 6 - you have just made that relatively easy game where you can rest your big stars that much more difficult
In midtable - you now have more teams scambling to get into and around midtable
Relegation threatened - you have now made it harder to stay up.

The only argument is that this approach would make the overall product better - and it almost certainly would - but if they don`t care about the product when it comes to perennial domination by Man C/Liverpool then making the relegation fight slightly more interesting isn`t going to make them care either

If Dunne doesn't excel at CB then we have the option of playing either Gilchrist or Clarke at CB too and putting Dunne at RB. However I'd guess if Dunne comes it will be as a CB because that's where we've lost Souttar and Wilder has said he's after a CB.

I looked back and Dunne has played RB from February of last season. But it does appear he has had his best games for qpr at RB.
