True, but it's probably not the main reason and it's one of the most unavoidable. Bristol City lost their top striker just before the start of the season when they went up. They just spent the money on a replacement.Of course it has zero validity as far as you can see. You are engaged in an exercise in Nelsonian blindness where any criticism of the club is concerned.
For the reasons others have mentioned in response to you, and I have mentioned in previous threads, the selling the family silver policy has been a disaster. It is one of the reasons for our currently enjoying league one status for a fifth year in a row.
It's very difficult to keep players when they've had their heads turned and it should be much less difficult to source adequate replacements.
If I was to tweet Jim, and I won't because I'm not on twatter, my advice would be stop trying to reinvent the wheel and shortcutting the process of properly building a club by trying to sign players from divisions above on big wages. Either go full on, blow the opposition out of the water with our spending by signing the best players in this league, or build slowly and patiently.
Don't fall into the trap of thinking because players are being paid championship money they'll perform like championship players, it just doesn't work like that. Pay transfer fees for players on the up, not big wages for players who've already made their fortunes.
