Apologies if posted elsewhere, but later in this article about Morton, Nixon says Rak-Sakyi is staying.....for what that's worth.

Maybe in a minority here but i'm quite underwhelmed by JRS. The last couple of games against Sunderland and WBA, have I seen far more dynamic and exciting wingers and the sort of players that I was expecting JRS to be. He is a long way off Premier League. Not saying he is a bad player, I was just expecting more.

I am also a little underwhelmed by Rak-Sakyi, given the expectation around his signing. He is offering us a goal threat which we need, but not offering more than Brooks when he was in the side, in terms of all round creativity. But these are young players learning, if we think how McAtee kicked on in the second half of his spell, and Rak-Sakyi is contributing more at this stage of his time here. I do wonder if he might be a useful option as a striker, when we are struggling for fit centre forwards, or as a counter attacking option at the end of games.

He has quite a bit of learning to do and does leave our right back over exposed. Also has a a few anonymous games. But he’s a match winner on his day and that’s absolutely critical for a promotion team. We have good enough players elsewhere that we can cover for his deficiencies but we can’t replace goals and assists, even if they come once every other game.

Brooks looks like he’s lost confidence and is nowhere near JRS in terms of threat. Would prefer to see Brooks back in midfield as he’s smart, physical and has good technique.

If we do bring a couple of attacking players in in Jan, then someone who could start on the right to give JRS a rest / competition would be welcome.

Agree that Watson for Sunderland, Bassette for Cov and Johnstone for WBA all looked better than him on the day. But they are young lads as well and I’m sure their form will be up and down.

Rak sakyi looks a bit timid at times and neefs to learn how to Impose himself onto games and certainly needs to do more defensively
I think he is just young and lacking confidence but luckily for him he has a great man to learn from in wilder
Brooks looked like our best player early doors but lost confidence when he got dropped, would still love to see him given a go down the left and feel he needs to be involved more as even when he's not playing well he can carry the ball like a wide reciever and in too many games we have finished the last quarter with no one capable of that

Yep, we say the same at some point most games.

There are times when he receives the ball with space ahead behind the defender, or space to the right, and you feel that if he just put the burners on immediately he’d destroy them - but he often hesitates, or takes a couple of touches, and they get men around or in front of hm.

I wonder if it’s partly because his instinct, very visibly, is to cut inside on his left, rather than attack the space inside the line to the right? If the opportunity isn’t there to come inside it seems to slow him down.

It’s part of what comes with playing inverted wingers, I guess, especially if they’re young and still finding their game.

JRS is poor at times in supporting the defence and needs to try going on the outside of the opposition defence occasionally rather than, predictably, going inside.
Nevertheless he is a talent and opposition defences have to be aware of him thus leaving space for one of our other players.
Like many in our squad he has a lot to learn, so we cannot expect him to turn it on each match.

His body language wasn't great last night, looked disinterested for much of the game.
He slowed down a lot of our attacks by taking too many touches.

I thought he'd be bang up for it being back in South London, presumably with friends, family & Crystal Palace staff watching in the stands.

He's got bags of ability as we've seen.
He really just needs to apply himself a bit more and try to impose his quality on games and force things to happen.
I'd like to see him go down the outside a little bit more because he's got a decent right foot and it would force the full back into double-guessing.

Having said all of the above, McAtee's first loan spell with us was a season of two halves. The hope is that he really kicks on after Xmas.
I'd play him against Plymouth and Cardiff.

The body language thing is a thing. Thought that myself a few times.

There were times last night that I felt like he just needed to make a run in behind their left back, but it never happened. Every time the ball went anywhere near JRS, he was being closed down & ended up going backwards.

Needed someone to make their defenders have to run back towards their own goal and he should really have been the primary outlet. It could well be his instruction in game, but I have to say he’s been a bit disappointing of late.

I totally agree with you about Brooks.

Unfortunately for him , the only way he can get on the pitch is by replacing JRS , O'Hare or Hamer.

CW has stopped bringing him on as was his routine in early season.

If he starts that routine again , he should put Brooks on the L to give him his best chance of being effective.

I think. He could also cover left midfield
He's always looked OK there before I'm. Sure he played there v Brentford and liverpool and played well

It's interesting that Brooks has gone from starter, to coming on as sub, to not coming on at all
He's still getting on the bench but something must be amiss

I think it's just the way we set up with an inverted RW and having to squeeze Hamer & O'Hare into the side by calling one of them a LW
A false LW 😅
And a double pivot in Souza & Peck

He’s really pissing me off at times now with his refusal to go down the wing to the bye line at all.. try’s to cut back inside ever single time onto his left foot and the full backs are now expecting it.

I think that part of Wilder's plan is to leave the left open for Burrows to attack the space that is created by our current left handside players coming inside. Play Brooks or RJS out there and I don't think those gaps will be created.

Think Brooke’s has dropped down the pecking order - no idea why, presumably not showing “it” at Shirecliffe.

This is a good point , which seems to have Burrows playing as a LWB but on the R side Alfie is just a RB who isn't much good in the opposition half of the pitch.
Is it fair to Burrows to have to cover twice as much of the pitch as Alfie ?
Or do you think that other defenders are instructed to cover LB position when Burrows goes forward ?

I know that Seriki is a defender, but I'd give him a go instead of JRS to give him a boot up the backside.
I think Rak Sakyi was really poor v Millwall. Never really ran at the opposition (unlike the Millwall bloke down their left) and I kept shouting at him to have a go. In fact on the evidence so far Seriki is far more dangerous and effective going forward even though he at the moment also has to defend as well. Move him upto Rak Sakyi’s position and try him just running at the opposition.
