So months later on, you’re still annoyed at a smug grin. Right ok.

I said it still annoys me to think about it even now...

Since the match, I hadn't given it a second thought until he's just been linked with us. It's not like I'm thinking about Jesse f*cking Lingard every day is it?

I lost £20 on a night out 5 years ago. Still pisses me off. 😂

oh hes definetly a bit of a nobhead but chris wilder might just be the strong manager he needs and might also want to make a point to ogs that hes still a good player in any case it might be worth the gamble hes got 2 things we havent thats individuality and scores goals from midfield if the finances are alright for us why not take a chance on him weve nothing to lose now

Deli ali is pissed off with jose worth a cheeky punt on loan , him and his mate Jesse till end of season 😍😍😍😍

Only on the bench tonight v Everton in league cup. Must be off somewhere in January if he is not coming to Bramall Lane on loan or Solskar sure would of started him tonight and given 1 of the midfield players a rest with the busy run of matches coming up over Christmas & New Year

Sheffield United are leading the chase for Manchester United midfielder Jesse Lingard. West Ham, Newcastle and Brighton are also keen. (TalkSPORT)

For those saying Lingard isn't good enough for us.

I guess you would be happy for us to continue signing young players from the Championship and hope they can hit the ground running?

The lad has seemingly lost his way at OT (much like Alli at Spurs) and a change of scenery and a hunger to prove himself again may work in our favour.

It might currently be under performing but it’s no shame being kept out of the Man U midfield with the players currently there.

Wilder didn’t dismiss lingaard in his press conference this morning by the sounds of the quotes coming out of it.

he certainly has qualities we lack in the middle of the park, and plenty of Man U players have gone from joke figures to looking better outside old Trafford. I’m not 100% convinced but He might add a spark at least.

think the big question is how much of lingards salary would man utd be willing to fund but if the finances are right for us its a no brainer really

Ancient no reason why they should fund any of his wages.

We are in with the big boys and other clubs linked with him will pay his full wages. He won't even be here for 20 weeks so even if he's on 120k a week thats 2.4m. If we arent willing to pay that we should walk meekly through the relegation trapdoor !

Disagree with the £2.4m. In all eventuality that won’t be peanuts next year (it’s 2 players on 20k plus a week for the season.) that’s 2 high end championship players we could save it for.

I do think we have to take a decision as to if we just start to cut out cloth accordingly - I’d be tempted not to bother with a signing if we don’t pick up anything in the next 2 games. We have to decide if it’s throwing good money after bad.

your probably right if we lose the next 2 its as good as over and we might as well just go with what weve got and do our business in the summer for a championship campaign

Thats another player we won't be getting then! Why can't we sign players first then do the jibbajabba!

It’s the only question in reference to the suitability of this deal. Man U would have to cover somewhere between 60-80 percent imo depending on what his pay packet actually is.

He's good at scoring goals from free kicks just outside the box and we haven't got a player at the moment that could do that. Would be a good addition until end of season if it does happen.
If we add one who scores from inside the box too, we're in with a chance ;)

It wasn't the celebration; I am fine with celebrations in general. It was the smug grin as he said it that I remember.
It boils my piss at the moment, but actually I like it. Football needs this, rather than the sanitised bullshit they try to peddle out. Can't beat a bit of Cantona karate kicking type stuff to keep passion in the game 😀

lingard cant lose on this deal almost certain to be in the starting 11 and if we go down which looks likely he goes back to man utd mind could see him ending up at west ham

Are you serious, they will laugh at us. 2m quid is nothing in terms of survival. Some of our fans seem to think we are still in division one

A player in the prime years of his career with 24 England caps, Europa Leage, FA Cup and EFL cup winner and 133 Man Utd appearances.

On paper at least this would be one of the most ambitious signings in the club's history, albeit a loan.

We need someone to score goals. Lingard is not that player. Just my opinion, obviously (informed by the fact that he’s scored 29 goals in 180 matches across his career and we’re hardly banging them in for fun), and I’d love to be proved wrong, but doesn’t seem like the kind of signing we should be making.
In an ideal world we’d sign a free-scoring midfielder with premier league experience. But we’re bottom of the league having amassed 2 points out of a possible 42 and we don’t have any money to spend on transfers. With respect, who do you think is a better realistic option in our current predicament?

I’m serious in terms of it being in line with our wage expenditure to date could we pay his his wages in full maybe. It would only be a 2m outlay if there is no loan fee. I believe your argument is if another prem club wanted him they could out compete us by paying all his wages. Unfortunately most prem clubs other than Burnley are also in a position to offer a larger loan fee than us. We are in a position to be our competed for players by nearly every prem club. I also think 120k I a bit conservative for a player whose had 2 pro contracts at Man U was a regular first team player and England international when he signed his last deal.

With respect, I’d rather we sign no one than panic-sign someone who wouldn’t fit in with our style, doesn’t play in a position we use, and would take time to learn the system. Perhaps if we’d seen any evidence at all that the boss wants to play with wingers or a proper AM it might be different, but we haven’t.

The reason we don’t play an AM is because we haven’t currently got anyone to fill the role. Didsy can at a push, but even he said in a recent interview it is not his favoured position. The manager has been getting pelters for sticking too rigidly to 5-3-2 and lingard would give a good option to vary this. He has also played in a deeper central midfield position as well. Describing a 28 year old England international as a panic signing seems odd. I’d see it as a coup.

We got rid of two players who could play that role in Duffy and Freeman, the latter being an entirely unforced change. What makes you think that Wilder would then decide to change?
Also, if Lingard plays in a deeper position he’s not going to solve our goalscoring crisis.
It’d be a panic signing in that it would make no sense to our team or the way we set up to play. The fact the he’s an ex-England international and current Manchester United squad member makes no difference. I’m glad that our fans aren’t in control of our transfer business.

You took the words out of my mouth, I was about to say exactly the same thing! I assume you’re referring to the same Luke Freeman who was unable to hold down a place in a very poor Forest team prior to his injury and who’s fans would happily drive him back out of the city?

Duffy was a great player for us in league 1 and the championship. He’s never played above this level and was 34 when he left us. He was then unable to get in a poor Stoke team and is currently playing for fleetwood in league 1, which suggests he may have struggled to consistently perform in the premier league?

You don’t generally get 20+ caps and start a World Cup semi-final if you’re not very good. He’s clearly lost his way a little over the last 12 months but he’s a lot better than what we currently have.
