He has been told he can leave Reading in the transfer window, he would be awesome at this level and we need something new and fresh in the middle, he is 28 so experienced but far from past it. Try and do a deal on loan for the rest of the season with a fee agreed if we go up. We need to break the bank if we are to go up i am afraid because the squad we have won't do it, find some way to cut the wage bill in other departments sending fringe/young players out on loan eg porter, philliskirk and chappell. Temp him with promotion chasing football, good facilities, great fan base home and away and attractive football. He will without doubt get offers from championship clubs but we need to get in and do a deal.

He's at PL level now, why would he drop two leagues?

I would imagine he'd be far too expensive

Good call though

Like your style davey. However, if I've learnt anything since I signed on here this morning, then I've learnt the following:

1. We're shit and aren't promotion chasing anymore.
2. The facilities aren't that great and the pitch is shite.
3. The fans (sorry "fans") are nothing but useless, scapegoating, player ruining bastards and we'd be better off playing behind closed doors.
4. The football is so bad we like the look of Mickey Adams now.
5. All the players are rated "shit" or below.

Jay Tabb? We'd be lucky to attract Jay Aston (always prefferred Cheryl anyway).

I think we would have said the same of Danny Higginbotham before he signed.
Granted their ages are not comparable.... But it shows we are still a decent attraction.

Thats what i mean by break the bank, do what you need to do, seriously if we don't go up this season i really fear for our club.

The problem is that even if we were as rich as Man City, we would still have to work within the 60-65%. I would guess that any player in the premier league coming to us with take us well over our limit.

Didn't we try this with BT and then broke the bank by doing it...

What happens if we get him and he gets injured?

Oh for sure we can attract players, but I think in Higgo's case it was essential that we got someone in with experience as we had no other centre halves available

I think we could benefit from another season in this league.

I'd tentatively agree; if we could use the rest of this season to give the academy players the chance to prove whether they'll ever be ready or good enough for the first team.

Developing our own players and picking up bargains is the only way we'll ever get back to the top: we're not great at the latter so need to concentrate on the former.

and that's a fine philosophy and one I wouldn't argue with for a moment.

However, the lower down the leagues you are, the less likely you are to keep any real talent that does come through.

So do I. Should get rid of another 3,000 or so of our so called "fans", guaranteeing nothing but soothing noises when something goes wrong.

We need to get out of this League as fast as we can.

It's a double edged sword isn't it.
You get promoted, you're less likely to give your youth players a chance.... stay in the same league, you're more likely to lose them to a sale if they impress.
