Solid, hardworker who we shouldn’t be relying on for more than 15+ games as he’s a backup at this level. Had some ongoing injury concerns.

Good pick up as he’s versatile, would have taken Osborn over him as I think he’s a better player due to his availability. We need to fill some gaps though.

Well that’s probably the transfers in done unless the euromillions ticket for Friday has the jackpot numbers. Which coincidently like United just has two stars.

For those panicking that we were slow to do business, in 2019, first Wilder Premier League season, we signed:

Luke Freeman - 3rd July
Callum Robinson - 12th July

Both were record signings and were done “early”, at the time as a signal of intent to get some business done early and we then added a number of additions, breaking the record again after this.

The point being that we aren’t particularly late getting started and the signing shouldn't be judged on its own but when the business for the summer is done we’ll have a better idea of how the squad is looking.

On Shackleton alone, good age but has been around for a while, looks a versatile player, perhaps a bash replacement.
I agree with this. The panic is coming because we need so many players.

I really don’t think many expect us to start the season with less than 16 ‘first team’ pro’s. But a few are pretending they are!

It’s not going to be easy and we’ve not exactly put ourselves in a good position, but we’ll have a capable squad in place.

Welcome aboard Jamie, watch yourself at training…..

We have got a decent player in, and hopefully a few more to join before the season starts.

We need this lad to have a 30+ game season if we are going to achieve anything.

I'm fine with this signing. This isn't a marquee signing.
This is a squad player who if they play to their potential will hold down a place in the championship.
And he can play a few positions which will help.

It's basically like another Osborn, albeit it sounds like he may be possibly better technically.... marginally? FYI I quite liked Osborn and would have kept him personally.

My only concern is Shackletons recent injury record. I'm done with half the squad out with injuries at any point.

His name fits in with the 'Clayton Donldson' chant, so that's sorted.

No, he's a Macquarie signing.

Like this lad . Looked good when I’ve seen him . Always wished we could build a younger squad and build for future battles . Just hope we hang onto Arblaster be good pairing 🔴⚪⚔️

I’d be very surprised (worried) if he starts more than 10-15 games. He’s not really Championship level.

I’d expect another CM to come in, or two if we lose Hamer, with Shackleton featuring from the bench.

“Average at best. He’s meant to be a CM but he’s not physical enough and doesn’t have enough on ball ability to play there for a decent side. More of a make shift full back. He’s got bags of energy and will do the dirty work but he’s so basic”

An accurate description of Ben Osborn imo.

If Shackelton has pace and goes past players he'll be an upgrade on BO. Bielsa saw something in JS so I'll reserve judgement till I see him play. Wall fans rated his DM appearances, not least his MOM display against SUFC. It will be interesting where CW plays him.

I don’t think we were down to about 8 players back then tho Swiss

We’ve signed one. Roll on the next dozen

No but the context is the key… I see lots of comments that were fucked because we’ve not had the business done and dusted by end of June…

He’s made over 100 appearances so far in his career, either in the Championship or Premiership. Never played below that, which isn’t bad for someone who apparently isn’t good enough for that level.
