No doubt big loss with Jamie murphy leaving especially as we never really saw him in his best position upfront We are in league 1 & our 5th season you cant expect to keep great players at this level forever & its horrible to say that but everton in top 10 pf premier league struggling to keep the best players how do we. 1.75m is a good return as he might have asked to leave as with euro 2016 next summer he probably thinking that he got a chance of playing for Scotland in the 2nd tier that cant in 3rd tier with us

But as ive thought for many yrs the transfer window should shut midnight before 1st game of season. To stop this confusion where you can have player at 1st game then gone by September, however the logistical problems might be tricky as the top 5 divisions all start on different weeks

The sale of Tony Currie in 76 was the end of the world.
The sale of Brian Deane was a tragedy.
The sale of Jamie Murphy shows this manager can recognise a lightweight winger when he sees one. 20 goals from a winger in 120 odd games in this shit division is very poor.
Currie and Deane were irreplaceable. Murphy isn't.
Lighten up Blades.

Lost the first match 4-0, sell Murphy 6 days later. If nigel clough was still here it would be a shoes and car park situation.

I really hope I am wrong about Adkins

We're bottom of league 1 for a reason. Murphy was part of the crap served up last week.
Midweek saw us win without Murphy, sums it up for me. If that's the standard Brighton want then they're in for a long season.

actions speak louder than words..........

Should be an interesting week. I would expect 1 or 2 top quality players to come in now we have some money.

anything less is a cop out.

****ing **** **** and ****. when **** & ****ing ****stain **** clough and Mcwobblegob that **** selling the ****ing family silver **** ***** blowjob **** around the ****ing back of Ceasers. ****ing ****s. I'm ****ing done.

*Just getting my post sorted in case there's a view-from done!

I'm not debating the reasons for Murphy going, what I don't get though is why when our best players go we have people coming on saying he's not good enough for us anyway or bringing him down like he was wank. Some people really are stuck in a time warp regarding us Blades, they've done some real damage to some peoples footballing brains, If you can't see that getting rid of your best players doesn't work then we might as well go and play tiddlywinks or something. #acceptmediocrityblades.

I'll be there tomorrow in my time warp:D

Feeling a bit let down right now.

Player, Club............I can understand it, but this is a blow and Brighton makes it worse.

Hope Adkins uses the money wisely and we see some quality arrive in the next two weeks.

We are a selling club, this is a matter of fact now and there is not much that can be done about it.

Didn't know about this until I switched on the website. Oh well move on. It's the Blades way.

Would be really interested to know if any of the posters who are pissed off and disillusioned have their own businesses? Or maybe have roles in organisations where they have sole responsibility for recruitment?

Because as far as I'm aware, having owned several businesses over the years, losing good staff is pretty standard even when you have good relationships with them, they love your business, and are well paid.

I had a head chef in tears handing in his notice to me once. He'd been headhunted by a competitor, offered more dosh, in a restaurant who could offer the chance of career advancement more quickly. This lad did not want to leave my place - he had been with me 5 years, was THE creative force behind the development of my business and had bought in to the journey 100%. But, there came a time where he had to take a pragmatic decision. I offered him better terms to try to keep him, knowing all along it was futile, and he left, with us both in tears.

Next day I start looking for a new chef, a week later I find one, he was very different to the previous lad but you know what? He was arguably a better chef and my business didn't suffer.

So while losing Murphy is a blow, the money is good for a L1 club. Maybe we'd be wise to leave the vitriol alone for now and wait to see what NA does with the team this year. Remember, he has been brought in with a sole objective - promotion this season. If we don't achieve this aim, and it can be demonstrated that this sale was a pivotal factor in our non-achievement, then I'll be joining you all with my shoes off in the car park. But for now just hang on - a better chef might be just round the corner.

Amazing now JM has been sold how much of a shit player he has suddenly become to hear you lot, still not to worry we have a ready made replacement in Woolford  betcha he is now the best thing since sliced bread. And you all wonder why we can't get out of league one phuck me you couldn't make it up. It sends out a great message to future players that SUFC is just a stepping stone till something better comes up, a good season at the lane and you get a move to a club with ambition ....... Rotherham maybe. Just remember lads n lasses JM scored 20% of last seasons goals and supplied many more, you wont be seeing him save the day at Doncaster or see him leaving Spurs defenders on their arses for Che Adams (the next one to be sold) to slot home, we have just sold any pace we had up front. Same owd United always let you down.

Great post.

I don't care who we sell as long as we get out of this division. It could be a blessing in disguise, or the biggest disaster since the Titanic. I'll let you know next May. :)
Mind you if we lose today and play shite, there will be trouble at mill.
We had better spend the money we have received wisely.
Finally good luck Murphy you were a smashing player on your day.

To be fair I would not be throwing around transfer figures to prove a player is decent. We did pay £2million for Henderson, £1.7 million for Akinbiyi and £1.2 million on Horsfield.

Akinbyi was performing well for Burnley at the time with just over a goal a game.

Horsfield was crap agreed

But both were panic buys to secure promotion.

Henderson I actually thought was a decent signing.

Murphy is not a panic buy by Brighton they actually have thought this through and think he is worth the cash.

How much money did you get for the "transfer" of your chef?

A big thanks to Jamie Murphy for giving us some great goals and special moments, good luck in your future career. UTB

A very disappointing day for me although I'm not totally surprised by Murphy's decision to leave, nor the clubs decision to agree to sell - it's United!

Disappointed in Murphy and the lack of loyalty and commitment he's shown, disappointed in the management team and the club hierarchy for not fighting to keep our best players, but more than anything I'm just disappointed in the 'age old' lack of ambition in this club of mine. How you can square off selling your best players season after season after season and at the same time profess to the world that you are serious about promotion? It's a mystery to me?

Still, I suppose, like many before him if they want to go, what can you really do?

Very, very, very frustrating though and a serious set back for the squad.

Makes you wonder how many more of them would 'jump ship' if the right offer came in? I'd also like to know from the club's perspective, "are all our players available for sale - subject to the right price?"

Up the fucking Blades x

Anyone criticising Jamie Murphy for deciding to go may want to consider the following.

  • He left a club in the SPL and played in Europe to drop to L1 as he was sold the fact we're a huge club who will be climbing up the league in no time
  • He is still probably confused by the term 'game-changing investment'
  • Had to carry a bunch of underachievers for much of his stay
  • Went from next biggest Scottish prospect to a forgotten man as he languished in league 1
  • Had to endure Weir and Clough
  • Probably still confused about being called 'duck' and 'love' by grizzled old men

He could have easily pushed for a move a lot earlier than this. He's Championship quality.

Disappointed in Murphy and the lack of loyalty and commitment he's shown

You nor anyone has any right to be.

"As this newspaper reported two months ago, Nigel Adkins’ predecessor Nigel Clough had drafted plans to sell Murphy during the transfer window after deciding Che Adams’ rapid progress since arriving from Ilkeston last year meant the finance raised could be reinvested elsewhere."!
