Clough gave 3 years to him and 2 and a half years to Coutts. Staggering.

Nobody else was in for these stiffs, were they?

I just hope all these mental decisions that means we are now paying money out for players who won't even be professional footballers when they leave us has finally taught the club something

The Wallace and Hammond revelations make the contract extensions to Doyle and Collins look shrewd

At least they played and put a shift in each game, they were wank... But they weren't wankers...

Lets hope Matt prestridge can get some game time out of,Wallace, despite everything,is avert good player at this level,I do feel

Staggering isnt it.

Signing a player who barely made 20 apps in a single season on a 3 year contract.

Macabe isnt lieng when he said we may end up having to pay some players off.

Lessons learnt . Just what do the board , advisors , consultants , experts do at the Lane . It boarders on gross incompetence . Never mind having a cull of professional football players , some other faceless bastards need to look at themselves in the mirror . Never mind Adkins having jobs for the boys , it appears to happen in every thing SUFC.

We as a club have not really learned anything over the years.
Most of the people who run the club change regularly apart from the McCabes. They're the only ones who should be learning.

See him training yesterday, it's such a shame that he just can't get fit cos he's a brilliant player.

Every time he gets training we all say this then something else goes. So unlucky, he must have been close to packing it all in a few times.

Does anyone know whether he's ever had a full pre season with us? Maybe that could be the difference... COULD. I certainly hope so because he's the one of the best in the league when fit, he's athletic, strong, quick, plays between the lines, doesn't shirk a tackle and leads. Hope to god he can get fit and do at least 30 games next year, would make a whole world of difference.

He will never be fit and that is the problem. Adkins was right last season and we do need players that can play more than just a handful of matches. Wallace has had more than enough chances to get fit and it just doesn't look like it is going to ever happen.

I hope Wilder is not like Clough who was happy to build up a squad where only half of the players were fit enough to actually play.

If we can't shift Wallace there's no point just exiling him. Get him involved, see if something finally goes right for him and he can get the run of games he needs to get himself going.
We've got nothing to lose, he'll be gone at the end of the season anyway.

It's not his fault his body has let him down over the past 2/3 years. I really hope he can sort himself out, he needs a good fitness set up which it's safe to say we haven't had under either Clough or Adkins...

Very good player, shame about the injuries
Matt Prestridge has a good reputation for getting players on the pitch, hoping he can sort JW out

While he's under contract,I'm sure the club will do their utmost to get him fit and playing, and quite right too

after the usual crap on the first two pages, at least one or two write some half decent stuff.

Wallace is a quality player and can be an asset if the new management regime can sort out the injury situation.

If the player can be managed properly we might, just might get some games out of him.

Continually giving a player stick is really quite typical of some on here, when it wasn't his fault in the first place.

Blame the club for signing him, but once again writing shit like some of the above is really quite sad.

We'll probably get to about 4th week in August and James Wilson sounds like the new scapegoat after what some of the Oldham fans wrote - some of you no doubt believe it already.

UTB

Fans slag off Clough for signing him, but we could have never normally afforded a player of Wallace's quality, if he'd been fully fit over his last season at Tranmere, prior to signing for us. He was also out of contract and it was a gamble worth taking in my view. To date its not come off through no fault of the player. I hope that Wallace stays fit and impresses either out on loan somewhere or better still for us this season.

I wonder how much of it is psychological with Wallace now? Perhaps there is a player in there who can put in 30 odd games a season but everytime he steps on the pitch he must be worried about the next injury set back....

Was it worth a gamble? Yes, I see that.

But a 3 year contract on eye watering salary for someone who's not played 20 league games in any one season? That's negligent.

My opinion lies somewhere in between these. In some ways you have to think, at this level, you’re not going to get a much better player (potentially) for a decent deal. Not wanting to drag up the Coady debate again, but I believe that Clough took the gamble on Wallace as a cheaper but again, potentially better player than Coady.

I seem to remember Clough saying at the time that with Preseason behind him he’ll be a hell of a player for us… that was 2 preseasons ago and we’re now into a third… The gamble didn’t work.

Is it negligent? No, but it isn’t very clever either.

No comparison to Hammond. Wallace has been blighted by injury and has found it hard to get any run of form. Whereas our friend Hammond has had plenty of opportunity to show his worth. . . But hasn't. Wallace obviously feels he can establish himself in what is now a thread-bare squad.

Didn't Adkins say that most of the problems with Wallace were "all in his head"? or words to that effect?

He always looked good when playing, but only played for 20 odd minutes at a time........

I think sometimes, previous injuries can get in your head. I remember playing in goal at school, I Dived at a kids feet, his foot came over the top of the ball, wrecking my nose and taking a couple of teeth with it. After that there was always that split seconds hesitation.

Can you please explain to me why it McCabes fault that Wallace got injured ,because Im fucked if I can think why.

It's not his fault, but if you sign a player with an injury history like that on a 3 year deal you shouldn't be surprised if he's constantly injured and you've wasted your money.

When will you people learn. IT IS NOT KEV'S FAULT. IT'S ALL BAD LUCK. Has he not told you enough times himself?

McCabe doesn't sign the players. In Wallace's case it was Clough.

McCabe gave Clough autonomy and he took even more and as LUCK would have it, hadn't a clue.. When McCabe told Clough to comply with his brief, Clough responded and got himself sacked.

Deserves as much stick as Hammond - wage thief

Disgraceful O.P., lacks any sort of humanity or common sense.

"Wage thief" is a disgusting term and when it applies to a very young man who's career is hanging on a thread, it's anti-club, anti-decency and anti- S24SU. I am ashamed the O.P. can be quoted elsewhere under the tag "S24SU member/ SUFC fan".

The player did not offer himself a contract and he would be sacked if he did not have medical reasons for not playing. The third year option looks ridiculous now but again that's not the player's fault and he is not robbing anybody by taking it up. Clough took a punt with the club's money and it could have paid huge dividends.
