James Wallace

A half fit Wallace can't be much worse than Hammond lets be reyt anyone can stand around in a 10yard area of the midfield and let the ball bounce away or pass to anyone not in a United shirt, still if you are Adkin's favourite you can get away with almost anything and get a contract extention.

We all know that's not true blade 58 ,if fit he would have been one of the first names on team sheet Adkins rates him highly as a player like us blades.Sometimes a fresh start is what's needed and a few months away might just do the trick.If we are in the play offs he would be available to. us for them and a fit Wallace would be great to bring back to the squad.

He was a very good footballer before clough signed him,just that he needed time to find his fitness after being out a long time with a bad injury,he has flashes of Glyn Hodges in him which is an accolade in itself.
 
Wallace needed to go out and prove his fitness, he has barely kicked a ball since he joined us.

We can't take the gamble on him being fit or not. It's a wasted sub if he goes off injured after 45 minutes and as we saw when forced into a sub yesterday it can totally screw up the shape of the team.

He got through 90 minutes but can he do that for another 10 matches? Can he do it til the end of the season? Id be surprised if he can.

This is football league football not non league where clubs have to get by on players that can only play one week and then have to rest the next week.

We have already had to rest Coutts for some of our matches, just to avoid him getting injured again.

I don't know whether it's true or not finlay, just telling you what he said. May habe been an article in the Star at the time of his departure

I think Wallace is stretching the truth there blade 58,I follow the under 21s and he hasn't played that often for them.go onto blades website and bring up the under 21 matches you will find he didn't play that often.I really want him to do well at shrews as I rate him highly but suggesting he was not picked when fit is not what I beleave check it out.It is possible of course that he played in some behind closed door friendlies but we don't get to know who plays in those and they are of course designed to give returning players some game time.

On his own admission the guy hadn't played 3 games on the bounce for over 3 years when he joined us, and still hasn't with us. If he now manages that or more for the Shrews then it would be very strange and would make me want to question a few things.
 
Recalling an interview with Adkins. He commented on Wallace "not being confident in himself to last the ninety minutes".

Has he gone to Shrewsbury to gain that self confidence away from Bramall Lane, but still playing at L1 level?

I recall one of him not being confident about that - summat about worrying about injuries was holding him back, a psychological problem. So maybe he's gone for some therapy.
 
He posted a picture of himself in a cryogenic chamber in Liverpool yesterday at minus 156 degrees. He obviously has issues if he has to do that after 90 minutes of football to stop himself falling to pieces

Played yet another 90 minutes in their 1-0 loss tonight, what the fuck is going on at our club?

Let's just wait a few weeks and see if can stay fit.

Any excuse to slag United off at the minute. Plenty of other reasons without claiming we have loaned out the messiah to Shrewsbury!
 
2 games or so of football and suddenly Wallace is magically fit? Maybe Adkins was right and it is psychological issues that Wallace has.

Lets see how he gets on between now and the end of the season.

There were threads, you're right but I wasn't ever saying to pay him up on them, bit of a difference, mate.

I'm a bit concerned as to how he can play in 3 competitive matches on the trot at Shrewsbury but never at us and for Adkins to blame it on a psychological issue is bullshit because he isn't suffering with that at the minute. I personally think it's an excuse to get Hammond in, I could be wrong but I will take that view nonetheless.

He's no messiah, he's just better than what we've got, why do people exaggerate just to protect the clubs wrongdoings?

He's probably realised that he's got to overcome his psychological issues or he's out of work.

Again like I say, time will tell. If he stays fit until the end of the season then hindsight will say we should have kept him. But given his injury record would you bet on that happening? I certainly wouldn't!

He didn't play under Clough regularly, was that because of injuries or did Clough have a mate he wanted to play?

It's not just Adkins that has had to try and get Wallace back fit and playing football. Clough couldn't manage him better either.

Clough wanted to play him, no doubting that, the point is though that whilst he was injured during Cloughs' spell in charge Wallace himself has come out and said he's been fit for months but just not getting picked, you must see that this is pretty odd now he's played consecutive games for the first time in ages?

Adkins played him early in the season and he picked up a couple of injuries.

Adkins wants a settled side and with Wallace and also Kennedy he won't get that. They are both good players who could improve our first team but if they ain't fit regularly, they aren't any use unfortunately.
