James Wallace - contract cancelled

Am i right in thinking that the lad had an option to extend his contract by a year which he took up last summer despite hardly playing for the previous 2 years..? If so (whilst i would have done the same as he will never have a contract like the one hes just been sat on) i dont really understand all the goodwill towards James and the giant injury list. Im just indifferent to the lad. Dean the 'Demon of the Lane' Hammond got fkin slated for taking up the 1 year extension despite knowing he wasnt wanted and would probably need to be paid off (which he was). So injuries apart, they both probably knew that they were taking up an extension of the contract in the full knowledge that they werent helping the club. Not knocking either for doing it as i said i would do it too in all honesty cos it was for a lot of money in each case, but each were rewarded handsomely over the years with Utd for contributing just short of fuk all.

I dont wish ill on either Hammond or Wallace but im mystified why one seems to have took us to the cleaners (not his fault his body gave up on him) for 3 years and goes with our blessing, whilst the other took us to the cleaners (not is fault his body gave up on him) and is the anti christ to many blades.

I personally thought DH was w@nk but he at least got on the pitch. Wallace was eternally injured.

Just playing devils advocate here as it seems double standards. Neither of em wanted to do badly, but their bodies dictated otherwise, and both took that extra year knowing they were just taking the money and likely to stunt the clubs playing budget. Food for thought i suppose, but to my mind there isnt a world of difference between either players ethics and using the club.

Good point.

I think the difference however is that most people, myself included, could see that James Wallace was a good player who put the effort in when he was on the pitch - he was obviously just blighted by injuries

On the other hand, Dean Hammond was never good for us; he looked lethargic and he was a symbol of everything that was wrong with Adkins' time at the helm.

That's the last of the transfer listed players then. Freeman and Coutts worked their way back in, the rest have all been binned off in one way or another.

Well done to Wilder and the club for cutting out all the dross that has held us back over the last few years.

He never stops does he ?

It's easy to think some managers focus on the first team only . Look at the line ups , tactics and the opposition . Not CW , he's all over every facet of the club like a rash . The hours he puts in would frighten most other managers to death .

Well done Mr Wilder , please keep showing me that I was wrong in every way when I slated your appointment .

Good man. Repenteth at your leisure whilst watching the Blades and Wildthing steam into the premiership...

I think the major difference is that put simply CW lives eats and breaths the club. Other than his family sufc are probably his real passion in his life. I can only imagine how motivated i would be if i was the Blades manager as i would put my heart and soul into that club as i know that my forefathers loved it dearly also. Hes a blade pure and simple in his heart and part of the job he does will be heart driven rather than pay cheque driven like most would do. Thats the difference. Oh that and the fact hes a bloody good man's man and football manager also.

I never thought he'd got it in him Weasel , I simply thought the job was too big for him . At the risk of sounding like a pig , the job at the Lane IS a tall order . Our Academy alone swamped some of our latest managers .

He has already stamped his authority and personality all over the Club . We hear fuck all from McCabe anymore ..... He just stumps up the cash CW demands . He's cleared virtually all the shit out . The Academy reeks of his influence and management . Moral amongst the Lanes employees not on the playing side is sky high and just look at the first team . All this in 6 months !!!

James Wallace was something of an after thought for most of us , not Wilder , he knew full well what he was doing when he loaned him out . Job now done .

In many ways I believe the speed and efficiency of what he's done here is one of the reasons why a lot of us are still cautious about the future ..... We are simply mesmerised by the way he's he's turned things around in such a short space of time .

I'm afraid I too expected Micky Mark II. I think I was ignoring what he did at Northampton to an extent (but I lived in Brighton when Adams was doing a similar job with them) and perhaps underestimated the value of Knill. I think having an assistant who's also been a manager means you can leave him to do certain things whilst you attend to others and can discuss issues with someone you trust and respect and has relevant experience and insight. It must be a great help.

I'm with you. Fuck him.

UTB

I have a degree of sympathy for him (tempered somewhat by him earning more in a week than I do in a couple of months while injured) but I think this is good for United. Football is not a sentimental business, however much some may wish it was, and he has unarguably been getting paid wages that could be better used on a player who will, well, play every now and then.

Good luck to him, but I'm glad he's not on our books anymore.

Are the three green squares with crosses in them to symbolise the three seasons he's failed to get on the pitch?

I will remember him for that encouraging cameo sub appearance at Peterborough last season – when we were all convinced he was back for good, that Sammon was going to have a great season, and Adkins was the man to fire us to promotion.

From the Hallamshire...
Upon the news about my leg transplants...

''We have some good news and some bad news, Mr LYDON ...''
''Give me the good news Doctor...''
''We've found a suitable donor... Mr LYDON ''
''Now the bad news... please.''
''The donor is a Mr James Wallace...''
''I'll stick to life as Doug Baader....Thanks.''

Now now don't forget about all his unseen work that Adkins used to bleat on about .....

Did we give him The John Ebrell memorial crutch as a leaving present?

In the spirit of grannies having male appendages, I'd suggest that if James Wallace had played every league game during his contract, we might well be a Championship club now. I rated his potential that highly. Powerful, comfortable using both feet, can carry the ball, see a pass. I didn't see a weakness in his game.

Agree all true..

Sadly doesn't amount to a hill of beans if you never stay fit to get on the field.

Should be suing Clough for gross misconduct, 3 year deal ffs.
No sentimental wish you well bollocks from me, we all would have loved £5k a week for 3 years for turning up for work 10% of the time,.
Indeed, I am really struggling to think of a more bizarre ridiculously incompetent piece of recruitment for many a long year. His whole career before Clough signed him had already been an injury crash!
A complete waste of around a million quid, an amazing amount of money for a League one budget.
Fuck off Nigel Clough! Fuck off the spineless board cunts who let him trash the club
.
Part of successful management is not only recruitmen;t but kicking out the dead wood is probably just as difficult, whilst keeping everyone else happy..
In this respect Chris Wilder has achieved an astonishing transformation, most of us though the depth of the problems would take several more transfer windows to sort out.
CW you are an utter legend.
Well done for binning more dross.
An excellent job CW.

Agree with this. 5 years ago we would have killed to have Hammond at the club. I personally think Adkins (completely inept ability) killed him, insisted on playing him every week even though his body couldn't handle it and he just couldn't keep up with the level anymore.

Wouldn't we all have taken the years option on the contract? That's just gross mismanagement more than anything.

6pm Movie Premiere
I James Wallace
A hard nosed look at the struggles of a man no longer able to work due to ill health.
James Wallace..................JAMES WALLACE
Healthcare Professional....NIGEL ADKINS
Jobcentre Manager...........DAVIE BLADE

He was a really special player. By that I mean he got better the longer he was out.

I know he didn't choose to be injured but I can't say I'm upset he's gone. Good luck for the future, James.

You look at his physique in that picture, in addition to watching him play, and you think here's a guy who would've played at the highest level. Strong as an ox, a real all round natural athlete. He'd be bloody hard to play against. As JohnDenver says, there was barely a weakness in his game.

Nice to see that message from him but he has a LOT to be thankful for!
