Has come in and looks like he's doing the job we bought Leon Clarke to do.

It's a shame in some respects but good management not to persevere with him out of stubbornness and admit an error. You

My only concern when we signed him was we may change tactics and go direct too much which wouldn't suit these players. We haven't and it's looks like being an excellent bit of business.

Him and Clarke are far from like for like but the decision to bring him in is looking wiser and wiser with every passing week Clarke spends injured.

Don't know like I know
What Chris Wilder has done to me
In the morning he's my water
In the evening he's my cup of tea.

In hindsight probably correct but Clarke has much more to his game than Hanson.
Also don't think Wilder can persevere with Clarke because he's injured.

In the Summer there was a new policy.
1: Make signings nice and early instead of getting involved in auctions being messed around by agents.
2: Instead of buying players with an eye in the Championship we focussed on the players we know can do a great job at league 1 level. Think we matched his salary at Bury but gave him a 1 year extension.

Clarke was easily one of the best strikers last season and has a great track record.
And it was a big sign of intent to persuade him to join.

I accept Clarke has been injured and not at full speed but the thing that dissapointed me is his lack of physicality. Clarke is a big/ tall player but is easily knocked off the ball. He goes down a lot claiming he's been fouled. However I was impressed with his work rate. Also when Clarke and Sharp have played together Clarke has generally been below par but Sharp has been even worse. They've not gelled as a partnership.

Impression I get with Clarke is that he works better as a loan striker and he doesn't neccesarily need good players around him because he has the ability to score from nothing.

Between the two, I'd have taken Sharp off.

Thankfully, the gaffer left them both on.
Quite
The introduction of O'Shea for Laffs and leaving Hanson and Sharp on was probably the decision that tipped the balance in the game. Lavs was also involved in the build up to the winner.

That's the advantage of playing 3 at the back with wing-backs that supplement the midfield. When you have the players like O'Shea and Carruthers to augment Fleck, Coutts and Duffs you can change the emphasis in the five in midfield and go for it to change 1 point into three.

E's not fannyin' abart tha' kno's

I think one thing you've nailed there in the contrast between the two is Hanson's work rate, which watching him yesterday was excellent for the full 90. Clarke hasn't come remotely close to matching that even for 45 minutes. I had been a little concerned that part of the failure of the Clarke-Sharp partnership had been that Sharp was no longer able to play off a bigger more physical slower striker. Now that we've seen him and Hanson together, it's clear that Sharp's apparent inflexibility was nothing of the sort – Clarke was the problem.

Agree, when judging players it's normal to judge in isolation
But really they shoud be judged in partnerships and with reference to how they affect the team.

A manager has to develop the right style, tactics and have the right team mates to bring the best out of that player.

I've no doubt that individually Clarke is a better player than Hanson.
The Bradford fans were split on their assessment of Hanson, many said he works hard and is great in the air but he's not prolific and ability wise is quite limited.

But in our team Hanson is proving a great buy and is far more effective than Clarke
And more importantly Sharp looks much more comfortable too.

Good target man, good positioning and a real battler but his finishing isn't the best. Can't believe he missed that rebound, if we'd scored that we would have cruised it.

And there are some that STILL believe that Clarke will come good !!!

Same crew that thought Henderson, Higdon and Sammon would come good ?

At what point do you throw the towel in fellas ??

It's the Blades way :)

Its impossible for opposition manager to stick to a formula to stop us as our players are all over the place ,I think only Carruthers ,Wright and Oshea haven't scored yet ,that will change.
Agree. We've got more tactical options than any team in this league, as far as I'm aware. Whatever they do to stop us playing, we can just change what we do. They change again to counter it, we go back to what we were doing before or change it again.
I don't think other teams have got the range of players to cope with it. They have Plan A and maybe B, we just go to C, then D if C doesn't work.

Had initial doubts - wins a lot in the air - good movement in the box.

For our goal, he isolated himself away from both centre halves and was on the back post with their right back - deserves credit for that as it proves he has a footballers brain.

UTB

PS: Taffazoli was rubbish - if we were interested, we got away with one here.

At first, due to his size, I thought Taffazoli was going to neutralize Hanson's physical presence in the box........nope........

know when you start a sentence and then genuinely have no idea how you intended to end it?

That.

Another plus in having Hanson up top is that opposition central defenders daren't venture forward into attack and catch us out so much. If they do, James will be left to score/create goals in their absence or track back with them. We haven't had anyone do that for a long time.

Leon Clarke has become this years James Wallace

He's nearer to James Corden.
Interesting point. I thought he looked leaner this season than how I remembered him when he played for the pigs. I wonder if it's affected his physical game?

Dont think Hanson or Sharpe had good games to be honest, I would have taken Sharpe off with 10-15 minutes left, Hanson missed a couple of very good chances talked about taking him off then boom! Hanson far post billy leaning on the other post having a woodbine gentle nod of the head and mayhem,
