It depends on terms and expectations for me.

If it's a similar deal as it was for Clarke, then no way. If he's going to regularly start, then no way. If he's on a short term deal (18 months tops) and will be largely on the bench, and we're selling Clarke, then fine. He can certainly create havoc and win almost anything in the air. We'll just launch it as we did earlier this season. Happy with that when we're late on chasing a game. Not all game though. It doesn't suit us. It is, however, a very good idea to have a plan B, which we don't really have now.

At least having the aerial threat of Hanson from corners will allow us to keep one of the back 3 in a defensive position to hopefully stop these counter attacks we have been suffering from.

Bang average league 1/2 striker, cant get excited about this signing at all. If we get promoted he will be taking up wages for potential better players.

CW will hopefully/probably prove me wrong though

Agree G.O.M but surely you agree it's a different option? One we needed yesterday.
It's a different option, certainly. Hopefully he'll appear more 'bothered' than Clarke and also prove to be more effective.

It's just the standard/quality of the option I'm concerned about.

I know one thing for sure. There's been plenty of occasions over the last few seasons where we've bemoaned the fact that we have no ariel threat from open play because our strikers are either a/ too short or b/ tall enough but can't jump and weak as in Higdon and Sammon.

Hanson isn't like that. He will get the knock-downs and he could chip in with 6 or 7 goals. I'm not say that he should be a nailed on starter but he will give us an option from the bench that in my opinion we definitely need.

mate of mine who works at BL has advised me Hanson will be announced tomorrow. Dunno if I'm happy about the signing to be honest but I suppose he can give us another option up front

If anyone is going to give those 2 CBs from Bolton something to worry about then it is James Hanson, because let's face it we don't have anyone else who can out muscle them.
Hugely important that we beat them at the Lane (more so than Scunny imo) and we might just have a forward who can rough them up a bit now.

all I know is, when I have seen him play against us, he has coursed us problems, so he might become abit of a cult figure like the Chief!

All those who think we will resort to long ball ,Arsenal who are probably the most footbally team in the country ,have had Olivier Giroud up front on and off for the past 6 years ,they have played about 3 long balls in this time.

reading there message board, most seem gutted he is leaving. Him and Billy up front, classic Big man little man might be just what we need to get over the line in league 1.

Cant be right ,apparently 99% and also someones flatmate and everyone of his friends say hes shit.

I can understand why Hanson can be seen as a decent signing. Despite an unimpressive goals return he is a major aerial threat and offers more physicality in 'winning ugly'. I do love stats crunching and history in this damned league does prove a James Hanson-esque striker isn’t always a disaster as some may think; 2009/10 Grant Holt - Norwich (24 in 39), 2011/12 Yann Kermogrant - Charlton (12 in 36), Gary Madine - Pigs (18 in 36), 2014/15 Aaron Wilbraham – Bristol City (21 in 43). Not advocating I want a change to hoof ball but (automatically) promoted teams have often relied upon a target man with some success - a silver lining!

If CW wants him in and thinks he'll do a job in the run-in then that'll do me. We've needed a nasty bully for a while - how different the side is now compared to the soft, tiny one Clough put together. My only concern given his likely salary is whether giving him an extra year is the right thing to do. Fine if it all goes tits up this year but could he really do a job in the champ? As with Clarke, he'll be difficult to offload if no longer needed.
