I actually don't think he's an awful signing, as long as its not more than a year and a half contract.

The more you think about how we play the more it makes sense.

We dominate the midfield, we attack mainly down the wings and we put in loads of crosses each game game.

It's alright taking Bradford fans opinions, but I highly doubt they play the same way, or have the same quality players as us, especially in midfield.

Hanson would have quality all around him, we wouldn't just lump it up to him because he's a tall striker, we'd play it around in the same way. However what we've been lacking is a striker who can win aerial battles, and put a finish to some of the balls we play in from the wings.

I'd fancy him and Billy up top. We're top of the league without a goalscoring partner for Shar

We've tended to lump it when Clarke comes on IMO.

In Wilder's post match interview he stated that we shopped at a specific level. No spending of a million or more, so the budgetary balancing act that the board expect our manager to work within reflects the lack of ambition the board have. Surely expectations should change as the season progresses? If he's told that he has no more than £3-4 hundred thousand to play with, given our league position, and the Prince's reasons for wanting to be involved with United, I would have thought that a brief phone call reassuring Wilder that his budgetary ambitions have suddenly been improved would be in order? This is the best chance we've had for many seasons to get promotion, I hope the board aren't stuck in a groove and expect Wilder to create miracles without further backing.

I fully expect Kevin McCabe to fail, again.

Understood, but if that is truly the case the board are effectively saying the are only prepared to spend peanuts and if it doesn't work they are happy to stay in league 1. Many managers in that situation wouldn't hang around long if a better offer came in.

If I remember correctly, recent accounts showed a player wage bill of approximately 7 million and player sales and purchases almost balancing each other out. 400k is small in that context and the real problem here is maybe our club's choice to have a large squad of mediocre palyers and often with some past their best. Many other successful clubs with lower gates go for smaller squads but buy young up and coming players, bring them on and occassionally sell on a few to finance themselves.

Take Scott Hogan to Brentford for 700k and now worth 15 million, we could have bought him and pocketed the dosh but we often go for the old cart horses instead. If I think of every small club above us some of them got there by such a shrewd buying and selling model and others by just having a rich owner.

400 k is nothing for a team with championship ambitions and a strategy where potential quality is more important than lots of mediocre bums on seats.

Sure CW has the right intentions but if the board can't see they need to invest properly at the right time they are wasting their time and ours.

Take your point though, the BDTBL suits are the issue.
The suits at BDTBL have backed previous managers, its the managers who've then invested terribly. They also invest heavily in an academy, though they'd be much wiser to invest that elsewhere.

Wilder has reversed the trend of poor investment, and Hanson would be the exception, not the norm, in terms of age range.

Separately, I can see Hanson offering something we don't have, if used tactically rather than as the mainstay.

If we got the the top of the league with Done up front then I'm hopeful we could do at least as well with Hanson. I'd fancy him to score more and keep the ball in the opposition's half more than Done, and it's hardly like we'd lose much in terms of link up and getting in behind defenders. The dynamic would be different though and maybe teams would play higher up against us. Maybe Hanson's presence will encourage the midfielders to get forward more.

Hopefully. But I can't help thinking we will revert to lumping it more.

It looks on paper a bad signing, but as ever we can only judge him on how he plays.

However I suspect he will get very little leeway and time to bed in, and for once people will have some justification for it, we have no time to let him "see how he goes once he has settled" we are entering the defining point of the season and every one has to be on top of their game for the next two crucial months.

If he doesn't hit the ground running and start either scoring or assiting from the off then there is little point in him being here.

Unless of course we are already planning for a play off campaign?

Yes, we are top of the league and have decided to abandon all hopes of the top two and go for a play-off strategy instead. Tufty and his staff have all agreed this and have instructed the players accordingly. A formal announcement will be made on Monday, under the backcloth of a giant white flag.

I still suspect Lavery will get the nod for the time-being, but the unsuitability to our style that we've seen whenever Clarke has started does concern me. Clarke, like Hanson, is a player that has been dangerous when they've played against us, and in seasons past may have been more suitable to our play. I don't feel Hanson is any more suitable than Clarke to the pressing we like to do.

Still a lot of negativity I see.

Let's hope each and every CB who plays against us feels just as disheartened, when they see him coming on as a sub at 70 minutes.

We have definitely signed him just for the play off final....remember 2013? No not me either really but at least he has done what we haven't yet and that is put the ball in the net in a p/o final...lets hear it for James 'Mmm Bop' Hanson;)

Just been told that Hanson has signed tonight. From nearly as close to CW as you could get. Should be announced tomorrow.

Lets give the fella a chance eh? Imagine how you'd feel the night before you started a new job, and all this bobar was going on?

I remember a few years ago we signed a young un from Donny for £30K and another from Watford for £50K. Mind you, they turned out to be rubbish dint they??? Thank God we dint have these forums then eh?

Up dem beautiful Blades.
I'm with you mukka
He might big and stiff but he'll cause some bollocks in the box.
Gives us another option.

Think Hanson would be a useful signing, he scores goals that none of our other strikers do (i.e. Headers) - the only aerial threat we have is EEL and O'Connell to a lesser extent. He occupies the attention of defenders which would allow Billy more freedom and he is a pain for defenders - again allowing Billy to hopefully profit. I understand the worry that we will go long ball if he plays but I hope we use the wings and get good quality crosses in for him to smash home. Feel positive about this signing.

Knill: Wilder, you have to go out there, face that mob and apologise for what you did.
Wilder: I would but I'm afraid if I go out there they'll take all of you!
Mob: No we won't, we just want Wilder!
Wilder: Well maybe not you, but they'll kill Hanson!
Hanson: I'm part of the mob!

If we sign him tomorrow, how long contract can we give him. It can't be till end of the season, he'd want more. He's a shorterm signing but we probably give him 18 months.

If anyone had offered me a transfer window of Carruthers, Riley and Hanson, with rumours of A.N. Other and no signs of any significant outgoings, I'd have snapped their hand off. We will need numbers and options for the run in, we now have them. Wilder has earned my utmost faith and respect, let's just roar the lads home.

3 and a half years like Clarke probably.
