We wouldn't go log ball because he's good at heading. Bradford go long ball when he's on the pitch because he is just not good with his feet. If we want to continue this current brand of football, Hanson just isn't capable of doing it.
Hanson thrived under Phil Parkinson (I say 'thrived', he did quite well) because it was suited to him perfectly. They were big, physical and extremely direct. All the things we are not.
Since McCall came in, they have started playing it on the deck, they have some great ball players like Cullen, Law and Clarke and Hanson just doesn't fit the team any more, hence why he has fallen out of favour.
Hanson has his uses. Today, for example. He would Be OK the last 10 mins when we are throwing it in the box from corners and free kicks. However, as we are top of the league and looking forward, it seems strange to sign a player on a good League 1 wage that, at best, we will use for the rest of this season for the last 10 mins in each game. I think we need to be slightly longer sighted as, if we were promoted, Hanson would be rightly binned at the end of the year. (Or he remains on a decent wage in the reserves).
He is very static and poor with his feet, which just doesn't suit a dynamic ball-playing football team. This is virtually unanimous among city fans. They acknowledge his uses but also accept the team has outgrown him as a starter. He is also getting old and won't be getting any better!
I think of all the options he is one of the worst we could go for. There are younger players scoring loads of goals in L1 and L2 that would seem much smarter investments than Hanson. He is the epitomy of a clogged, and the exact type of player o used to resent us signing, time after time. Not for me, thanks. There are better options IMO.
