He’s a rising star, they aren’t going to give him away and he’s on 20K+ I believe

How do you define "rising star"? Because our definition is very different to Chelsea's.

While you're right: they won't "give him away", I suspect he may still be affordable due to him being 24, and peaking at 1 promising season in the championship - he's not the next Courtois. (Courtois is only a year older than him)

£24k a week, I heard.

We were paying about half of that.

Fair enough, I trust you have a good source?

Reason I doubt it, is that before his contract renewal last year, he was on £13k, and I'm not sure Chelsea would nearly double his wage off the back of a good season in L2.

Heinz TK - I never touch the own brnd stuff.

Part of Chelsea's business model is stacking up young kids in the academy and then offloading them for a few million apeice. I agree that £24k per week seems ludicrous after a good spell in the bottom tier, but then 24 is young for a keeper and maybe they still think he could be lower Premier League quality and want to make sure they keep him and get something back?

Wouldn't be at all surprised if they doubled his wages. These top clubs are very charitable with what they pay their youngsters.

I understand Chelsea's loan system, and I understand they pay their youngsters well. My rationale was that (unless there was a a lot of interest) they wouldn't need to double his wages to get him to sign: £13k is/was a lot for someone who had only had one season in L2.

It looks like I'm wrong though!

So he’s actually shit?!? I’m glad he’s gone back to Chelsea. A bullet dodged. :D

We need to be moving heaven & earth to sign Joe Wildsmith. Always rated him. :)

The stats don’t lie, but also we have to take into account that Blackman did improve a lot second half of the season. The stats underline that he’s not the greatest shot-stopper in the world (especially low shots) but he’s very good with high balls (as indeed he should be!).

It’s what I’ve said previously.

Would I like us to sign him?

Yes. But not for £2:5 m thanks. I don’t think he’s worth that. I’d rather go the loan route or find someone else.

Did you hear anything about Wolves contribution to Lee Evans’ salary? I only ask because I have, but I’m proudly NITFK.

Dearest Pinchy

I don't profess to be ITK but have a mate that works at the academy and another who knows one of the directors, so i hear the occassional titbit. If you don't like it or don't believe it then fine, it's no skin off my nose.

You are being a little tinker of course, as Evans is a permanent transfer so any 'arrangement' to get him off the books would have been between him and Wolves. Given his age and relative inexperience I would have thought that he'd actually be earning more with us anyway, but I think a really clever bloke like you already knew that.

It was actually, for once, a genuine question, not a dig at all! Clearly, my wholly unwarranted reputation precedes me.

You’re one of my favourites as the late Sir Bruce used to say.

Anyway, I generally leave rumours alone because they are, more often than not, bollocks, but:

The proposition is that LE was on £18,000 per week at Wolves and they continued to pay a substantial part of that last season, similar, though not on the same hilarious scale, to Leeds and Sniffy Fowler.

Not browsed the rest of the thread, can't be arsed. I hope we're still in for Jamal but wonder where the Lampard at Derby appointment leaves us, especially given that they've just released Carson.

Fair point. Who knows. I think we could get as good a goal keeper elsewhere personally anyway. Don't ask me who though!

I agree. That said, like you I'm no scout and I've no idea who else we could look at.
The problem is, have we got time for the new guy to gel? If he's young will we need to build his confidence?
While Blackman might be expensive he will hit the ground running, his cinfidence was on the up, he knows the players and we know what we are getting.
We've wasted a lot of years and points trying to find our next Kelly or even Kenny. It's whether we gamble or twist really.

Had a search on Carson and can't see this. He's contracted until June 2020.

Sunday rag says we are sweating on whether we can get him back on loan for next season

Says he's on £22k/week which is a problem (no shit Sherlock)

Did we pay a fee for his loan as Well does it say?

If only he'd hit the ground running at QPR, people wouldn't have been able to claim that their goal was a howler... In my (boringly repeated) view, he didn't let in a howler last season.

Aren’t we supposed to have an increased budget? I’m guessing our top players are on around 18-20k a week but this investment could make a huge profit come Blackmans peak in future years and would boost team morale with his return.

I can get on board with both loaning him again or signing him permanently. There are good reasons for both.

If we can recruit in other areas without spending a fortune then I'd rather us get him permanently. He should double in value in no time.

Enjoying the morning sunshine with his dogs on the Rother Valley again??

22 grand a week. Its just Fucking ridiculous isn't it.

£18 - £20k/week?

no chance imo

If all parties want the move but the wages are an obstacle then frankly Chelsea should take a look at themselves and their policy, get in the real world regarding wages and take the minuscule financial hit of a few grand a week.
Why they needed to give him 22 grand a week I have no idea. How hideously unnecessary. Is their policy to reward their young players as much as possible regardless of what they've achieved? As if Blackman wouldn't have accepted 15k for example.... fucking ridiculous.
