Stats don't lie.

The lazy use of them creates the confusion, but so I am clear, the only reason we lost games (oh, except yesterday, when he played) is because Stearman played? No other influences? o_O

He may well have played Prem and been wolves captain, but he looks like a player on the decline to me. He may well be a better player than Wright, which I doubt right now but Wright makes players around him better.

Agreed I don’t think it was a pen but take a look at the 2nd. What the devil was he doing?

Watched it again now. Jedinak comes from deeper and therefore has the momentum, whereas Stearman is waiting for the ball to arrive and the ball is just to high for his position and Jedinak comes in behind him. You see this every week for goals at every level but if Stears was supposed to be marking Jedinak then its his fault. Someone should have been marking him for sure and making it harder for him to make that run - un-apposed.

An annoying tendency of jake Wright’s is to sit back off players he knows are faster than him and take them too close to the goal, contributing to several of the long shots we conceded. He isn’t a bad player but has his faults just the same as stearman
umm actually in the recent games where these long shots were conceeded he wasnt on the pitch

stats lie all the time mate
but the fact is i have no doubt stearman is a great player but we don’t lose as many and look a better outfit when wright is the middle cb of the three

it’s what i call faustino asprilla syndrome
Toon were walking the league when he arrived.. he banged loads of goals in but they never looked right when he played

My view is that Bash missing from the back 3 is what we are missing. If that was a penalty yesterday, the game is fooked, it was a perfectly good challenge and he played the ball. Only people who have decided to pre judge Stearman could possibly blame him for the second goal.

The only sensible post on this thread. It isn't Wright or Stearman who determines the effectiveness of our defence, it's Basham. He's the only one with any pace, the only one capable of putting in a last ditch tackle and the only one with any aggression. For those of you skewing stats to back up your argument in favour of Wright, try this one - United's defence has gone to shit since Basham moved out of the back three. I might add that United's recent misfortune has also coincided with the loss of Coutts and latterly Fleck.

Nah, lets all blame it on Stearman and Wilder instead in good old Blades fashion.

For me if everyone is available it should be Stearman, Basham,O'Connell.

As a supporter of Wright, it's more the position of the centre of the 3 that concerns me.

Just don't think Stearman is the (w)right player for the centre. It's never been about anti Stearman for me - it's about the position. Whilst we all have an opinion, mine is that Stearman is not that organising type of the three and have seen enough evidence in the games he has played.

Have asked this before and not sure if anyone knows as I don't - has Stearman played in this role before for Wolves in a 3, or was he the RCB in a 2 for Wolves.

Basham hasn't played in the centre - but he does read the game very well.

Shit, fuck.... won't be able to start a Jake Wright thread today. Gutted.

The back six won't have many easier days than that
Even scored two goals
