At the end when The Don and Stearman was doing the post match interview, you could see JW in the background congratulating CCV and putting a little arm around him. Excellent professional and it's the kind of encouragement young GOOD players like CCV need.

It was a 50/50 pen but that aside he just does not lead the back line as well as Wright. Others see it differently but I ain't for changing on this.

Wright In!

He's either:

Not physically up to playing regularly.

He's a proper 'orrible bastard with a shit attitude.

He's a shit trainer.

There was a time last season where Wright wasn't picked for a few games and we were all bewildered, he was put back in and we looked much more solid.

Now he's been dropped again and I feel exactly the same. No idea the thought process behind it.

Wright does suit a back 3 better than Stearman.

I think Strearman has played all his career in a back 4. Not saying he can't adapt to a back 3 but i think it will take some time.

I don't think its a scapegoat, its spot on.

Stearman was at fault for both goals today. He's not the answer in a back 3. He drops too deep, isn't quick enough, and doesn't command the back line. He's very poor.

Comparative records this season:

Wright: Played 10 / Won 8 / Lost 2. Goals conceded 12. (5 were the freak game against Fulham)

Stearman: Played 8 / Won 1 / Drew 2 / Lost 5. Goals conceded 12.

It shouldn't even be a debate.

Wright is a much better player. We defend better with Wright in the center of a back 3. We concede fewer goals. We win more games.

Nothing personal against Stearman. He's just not as good as Wright, and we're a better team when Stearman doesn't play. Simple as that. As long as we persist with Stearman in the center of a back 3 we will continue to concede goals and not win games.

If they want to keep playing Stearman then change to a back 4.

Out of interest , how many games has Wright started this season with Coutts and Fleck in midfield and Basham and O'connell either side of him compared to Stearman ?

Stearman has had a few decent games. it was never a pen today. He's a decent player at this level.

I'd still start with JW though based on what I've seen.

1st choice = basham-wright-JOC
2nd choice =Stearman-wright-joc. never seen stearman play there but i'd like to see it
3rd choice = ccv-wright-joc
4th choice = ccv-stearman-joc

etc etc

Hmmmm....looked a good tackle to me...have to see it again...

Really?
Blatant dive from the villa bellend for me.
I thought the ref was gonna send him off tho.
Missed the pen (came in late) but I thought second half the ref was going to book one of there's on the right side of the area. When you're thinking that, the diving's bad.

When Stearman gets regular starts is when you will see him get match sharp and turning out decent performances. Look at Lundstrum go now.

CW must see something he likes

One thing I noticed today was an annoying tendency to send clearing headers into central areas of the pitch, even when not under pressure.
An annoying tendency of jake Wright’s is to sit back off players he knows are faster than him and take them too close to the goal, contributing to several of the long shots we conceded. He isn’t a bad player but has his faults just the same as stearman

I honestly don't get the Wright lovefest.

Sure he can bring calm leadership, but I think he's a very limited footballer
Couldn’t agree more, I like and respect him and think he was brilliant in league one but what has he done to deserve the admiration of the masses this season bar a few good tackles (which all of our defenders have made at some point)

Many fans were slagging off Lundstram a few games ago

Different situation altogether.

Lundstram is a young, inexperienced prospect who was signed to be understudy to our best player and has been forced into our XI because of long term injury to said best player. We have no other option without rejigging a successful starting XI.

Stearman came into the club with the expectation of experience and ability to help us cope at this level.

So far he has shown no attributes that have improved our squad. Injury to him brought Wright back in and we picked up some impressive results with Jake marshalling CCV or Bash & JOC at either side of him.

Persisting with Stearman is a stubborn move by Wilder but as someone mentioned, perhaps he sees something in Stearman during training that none of us has seen on a match day.

If the only quality in a defender you notice is tackling then it is no surprise you don't rate a player like JW.

I would agree - no player is perfect. But sitting off players who are quicker than you is an understandable way of dealing with a defensive situation, I can't say the same about heading the ball into the centre of the field though.

I don't think Stearman had a particularly bad game at all today mind, and I'm sure he will get more solid as he finds his feet in the team.

I think Stearman has done alright.

But when people say "Stearman has done okay, but we're better organised at the back with Wright and he brings a feeling of composure to the back three" then I listen and I think I've been convinced.

When people say "Stearman's fucking shit he's League One quality at best" I tune it out because it's obvious nonsense.

My view is that Bash missing from the back 3 is what we are missing. If that was a penalty yesterday, the game is fooked, it was a perfectly good challenge and he played the ball. Only people who have decided to pre judge Stearman could possibly blame him for the second goal.

If that was a penalty then the game is fooked........ you say

He didn't touch the ball. Only the man. How can it not be a penalty?

He even admitted it himself!!!

It wasn't a pen for me. Clearly won the ball first and then his leg then follows through and it takes the man. So if the ball is won first, which it was, and the follow through isn;t dangerous, which it wasn't, then for me its not a pen. Aside for Stearman's performances, he hasn't played at this level and the Prem for nothing. He's a decent defender as is Wright. Stearman was also captain for many years at Wolves.

He may well have played Prem and been wolves captain, but he looks like a player on the decline to me. He may well be a better player than Wright, which I doubt right now but Wright makes players around him better.

Agreed I don’t think it was a pen but take a look at the 2nd. What the devil was he doing?
