Jake Wright Jnr.

In the little U23 football I've seen this year, Wright looked like the lad who'd grown up to the point that he needs competitive football. That's not to say he looks the most gifted, just that he has an edge about him that suggests he can mix it with the grown-ups. Interested to see if he picks up any yellow and red cards in the next few weeks. :)

Isn't Jake Wright like 30?

Bloody started young if he's got a son playing in the Conference.

Agree with this, every time I have seen Jake Wright Jnr play, he likes to play a very aggressive game, he needs to be play week in, week out, against grown ups.

indeed - I was 18 and was thrown in against Stocksbridge Park Steels - makes you grow up very quickly - think it was 9 months after playing 6th form schools football.

Young Jake off on loan to Southport in the Conference League.

Great chance to play first team football at a decent standard.

Good Luck.

I think it was Treeton Blade that said to me a year ago that Wright was nowhere near the level required for the first team. Has Wright significantly improved this season, or is he more likely to follow the sort of path Ironside took?

If he shows his metal in the Conference then it gives him a chance....

I watched Jake Wright play for Hallam FC and against Hallam FC in a United XI. He never neshes a 50/50 and plays a very physical game. I would say he is more than ready for this opportunity. Good luck to the lad.

Know one of the Hallam senior players and his said it was reasonably common for them to take youngsters under there wing from bigger local clubs but that Wright jnr was the most exciting prospect they had had in his time there. As you said he wasn't afraid to put himself about and had the right attitude. Plenty at Hallam agreed with him and will be watching his progress closely. Good luck to the lad. All part of the learning curve. Not too many moons ago that DCL was lighting up Stalybridge was it?

Hopefully he'll make a big impact. Sounds like he has an excellent attitude.

Wrighty is a proper old school centre forward who you would most liken to Mark Hughes, gives it takes it and puts himself about setting the tone for his teammates...hope his loan goes well and he comes back ready to stake a claim with the first team if he can make the step up he'll be loved by the crowd at BDTBL

Still nowhere near for me I,m afraid.

Improved since his loan spells though, if he keeps improving he has a chance, but not at the moment.

See that Jake has been transferred on a permanent basis to Harrogate Town, a club on the up I'm told. On behalf of 23 watchers i wish him all the best with the move. I see there is a sell on clause with the deal and that could be a good thing. He will be playing with Terry Kennedy. I will miss Jake's energy with the 23s and I suspect the team will be poorer for his absence. Always 100% and I bet there are a good few centre backs in the 23 leagues who will be delighted that his name is not on our team sheet.

I can't say I have seen him play many times, but his scoring record is very good. However there must be something missing if no league club has taken a gamble on him?

Also Paul Thirwell is assistant manager. They are top of the league on the same points as Salford City. Went professional this season, seems to be working so far. They usually start well then fizzle out in the New Year, but they have carried on the good form up to now.

As the modern vernacular would have it.
If you come away without a smile on your face after seeing Jake Wright Jnr play, are you even a football fan?
I wrote many times on my Blog, that he'd have to curb his wilder excesses if he wanted to make it in the game. He wasn't malicious, he wasn't snide, he wasn't nasty. But he was so COMBATIVE. He'd put his head, or any part of him, into the danger zone. When he was on it, he'd score for fun. Forget for the time being whether he'll ever make it. He's one of those players who makes you look up and think hello, here we go. You can't take your eyes off him. One of his many injuries lead to a bandage thing on his arm, that and his wavy blond hair made him the spit of Jostein Flo - separated at birth. I watch U18/U23 in the moment, to have a good time in real time, not to always think about whether players will make it. Players like Wright just put a smile on your face. GLTTL

Good luck Jake. Hopefully he will carry in progressing and get a move to a leagur club in future.

Billy Sharp excepted. Our record of bringing strikers through is pretty poor.

All I can say, having watched him many times, is that the 23s will be the poorer for his departure. Bit of an old fashioned number 9 aggressive and unsettled every defence we played against. His style meant he took a bit of punishment. I think the sell on clause is testament to our expectation that he will move up

All I can say about Jake Wright is I’d happily pay to watch him give his all for 90 minutes knowing that I won’t be getting short changed. The 23’s were always better with him in the team Harrogate fans will love him

Now I’m not saying that he’s in any way related to Big Jostein, but I’m just going to point out that Jostein departed Bramall Lane roughly 7 months before Jake was born...
