How? Why? Based on what evidence?

In terms of a cost / output basis, if you'd said Freeman you may have a point... If you'd name checked Ryan Leonard you'd also increase the validity of your point.

But paying nothing but minimal wages for a player who doesn't turn out is "dumb" ....

Probably on the evidence there have been more sightings of Shergar this year than Ravel.

Maybe, but he wasn't a "dumb" signing like the moron above suggested....

No I agree at the time he was a cheap gamble but it doesn't look like paying off. Why? who knows but it's not going to break the season is it, nor will Rodwell if he gets a short term deal. Wilder has produced more big returns on his gambles than he's had losses.

You could argue even his losses - Homes, Wilson, Leonard - spurred the first XI to better performances.

Ironically it was Duffy himself who benefited from the kick up the arse he got when Tufty brought in Carruthers and then the next year Holmes...

Decent move this imo. He’s left footed. Think he will be replacing Bryan in the squad, a sitting midfielder who can cover JOC if needed that’s Wilders thinking here..

He's right-footed however he's capable with his left, not sure where he would be competing but i'd assume for a midfield spot rather than centre half.

Wilder mentioned him in yesterday's interview and how as a 'young player he needs football'.

I'd suggest he needs a lot of things. Football not being one of them.
He will go out on loan to get some game time and re-establish himself.
Had fitness problems which hopefully he is over now, has potential but so do a lot of young players who fall by the wayside.
Man City have a buy back clause on him so he obviously has potential.

I've seen him twice. Garbage twice. Out of his depth against Barnet and tripe against pig reserves.

Man City probably have buy backs on everyone. It means little. If you think he'll ever be anywhere near City's squad then you've had too much Christmas sherry already.

apparently so, first site I checked said left and majority of his goals on a highlight video were left, few more sites say right so even better..some of those highlights were 10 years old but lad can certainly carry the ball and as a defensive midfielder he gotwhat is required to play left or right centre back in our stystem.

He played a fair bit in pre season and did well. I watched the pig U23 game on BP and thought he was probably our best player, looking strong and composed and looking to contribute offensively.

While O'Connell (never injured, nor in need of a rest) is here Bryan is nowhere near the team and the arrival of Osborn and Freeman means he's behind in the pecking order for LWB and LCM as well. So he does need to play games and a loan move is needed.

If the management had no belief in him whatsoever he would have been transfer listed in the summer, let alone by now. He will have to show considerable progress and avoid injuries in his loan move, but let's see how he does there and assess him later.

With his attributes and being (relatively) two footed he could be an option for six positions in our current formation. A dream squad signing at least? Contrast this to Morrison, whose main position doesn't exist in the setup we're playing now.

do you not think Morrison is well suited to the McGoldrick roll? Not saying he’s anywhere near as good but that’s where I’d play him? But yes agree think Roswell could be a very astute signing.

I struggle with the negative vitriol towards players from fans when directed at players who expect their contracts to be honoured. Gonna get Murdered for this but it was the same with Hammond.. why would they not expect it? The club offers the contracts the player accepts, seems the only hate towards Rodwell is due to his contract situation at Sunderland and I for one don’t blame him for sitting tight.. if no other offers are forthcoming that is

It's all alien to me.

Is a McGoldrick roll when you watch a youtube video and get random footage of David McGoldrick?

It would be a bit harsh, but if Wilder thought that Rodwell could do the job for the squad that Besic does, then it would free up another loan spot.

Given Besic has not been able to dislodge any of the first choice starters, maybe Chris is looking at someone that will?

If you got Rodwell in who can play midfield and defence, you'd have to question the likelihood of games for Stears and Bryan as well. I'd say Rodwell would be a better back up for Basham and Jags for Egan rather than Jags/Stears for those slots. As for Bryan he needs to play. Yes he's a natural left footer but let's not kid ourselves, if JOC took a knock, either Enda would move over and Osborn go to left wing back or Jags would come in.

As well as Clarke, that's 4 players you could free up from the squad with little impact to what has gone already. Harshest on Besic, but usually when allowed 2 loans, you want them both to be fixtures. I bet he hasn't completed a full match in terms of overall minutes and we're at the halfway point of the season.

Just thinking about this a little more, given Wilder has generally been full of praise for Besic and that he’s been in the matchday squad for a few months now, I wonder whether the suggestion we’re looking at another loan in January means that rather than sending Besic back we might be signing him permanently for a low-ish fee. His contract at Everton is up in May, there’s no indication Wilder is unhappy with the strength he adds to the squad, and I feel this is more likely to be the route to free up a loan. In fact it wouldn’t surprise me if that’s already agreed in principle.

When this guy was coming through as a young centre half at Everton, he looked like he was going to be a superstar. Getting shoe horned into midfield was the worst thing that ever happened to him, and moving to City didn't work out too well either. This has a lot better chance of working out than the Ravel situation.

Well that's one in......

I'm saying next one in is the loan from abroad
Then if any players leave we will then have money to spend but that will depend on who we'll sell first

Would like to see him at RCB against Fylde, see what he's like. We have no proper competition there (Jags isn't suitable for that role) so be interested to see what Rodwell can offer. There used to be a real player there, he's a Premier League winner lets not forget.
