Difficult to accuse Chansiri of asset stripping as how is paying 60m of his own readies to buy a rust bucket worth a fraction of that asset stripping? That was the opposite of asset stripping as he was massively overpaying for a club asset to make sure they didnt breaching the FFP rules (Derby did the same thing). His 'problem' was overspending and then running out of liquidity. He is now having to sell players to meet ongoing operating costs but that isnt asset stripping.

Asset stripping is buying something with the sole intention of selling all the assets off for more money than you originally paid...and that's not happening either.

Whatever our new owners do that won't be asset stripping either. I think they bought us fully expecting us to get promoted and for them to be left with an asset worth considerably more than they paid for it without them having to put more money in. As soon as we blew promotion plan A got blown out the water. They are now frantically searching for plan B.
I've said ad infinitum - they just want to make money out of us! That's what investment companies do, they won't asset strip us but they will try to improve their overall asset on the cheap

That's an imbecilic business plan then , because in football your player assets are all that get you promotion and they are tested every week in the glare of publicity.
No such thing as improving your football club on the cheap.

I partly agree with you, their aim is to make money, they have no affinity for the club and before they bought us, had probably never seen us play.
The only way they will increase their investment is to get us into the premier league. Staying in the Championship will not achieve growth. Selling our best players will not help them, and certainly not with the value of the current squad. They need us to be competitive and getting promoted

Don't think your right.

I think there was clear intention to invest and move the club forward. Doesn't make sense to asset strip at all.

Something has definitely changed in the background, the dynamic of the consortium, investments withdrawn or something.

Nothing stacks up.

Exactly. They want the shiny bright lights of the Premier League. Something doesn't add up at the moment.

What was he doing last night?! Its worse when you re-watch it. Surprised he didn't get sent off

Let's be reight, we've all known for some time that Robinson has got anger management issues and fancies himself has a hard man. It's ridiculous that we've found ourself in a position where he is our best and most experienced defender. What I don't understand (if rumours are true) is Selles' approach to the situation. If you know it's likely that Anel will go if an offer comes in, why would you tell Robinson that he's not in your plans for the first team. Surely it's better not to say anything and not risk him spitting the dummy out, than end up in a position where you're relying on him to be in the starting line up. Naive to say the least, and a toxic situation that could have easily been avoided.

I think you've put it better than i did,

Aka Private Equity’s basic playbook - acquire/invest as cheaply as possible, leverage Board influence to ensure growth and maximise profitability through increasing revenue and reducing the cost base, with an exit targeted in x years (quite often 5).
As you say, the only way they’ll achieve that to any worthwhile degree is via promotion - just about keeping the club’s head above water in the Champ (or worse) won’t deliver any sort of positive return for them (likely to be quite the opposite!).
How much they were banking on going up last season is unknown (although backing the Cannon acquisition is a possible indicator). However they’re now in a much tougher space - a squad nobody would say is ready to challenge and the massive advantage that is parachute payments ending after this season.
I’d hoped they, together with the recruitment team, would have had a clear strategy for the summer and by now be well on the way to implementing it. To say the progress and decision making to-date is disappointing is an understatement. They now literally only have a few weeks to equip Selles (their man) with the tools he needs to succeed, otherwise realising their aim will become even harder. The common link in all this is Stephen Bettis - provider of continuity from the previous regime, now promoted to a Board level exec role and ultimately responsible for the recruitment team - his view on all this would be interesting.
While ranting, I will say I’ve spotted quite a few incorrect interpretations of the term ‘asset stripping’, even including someone accusing Chansiri of doing so 😂 From what I’ve seen so far, including the Cannon purchase, that certainly doesn’t appear to be the case with COH - more likely a case of right-sizing following the significant drop in revenue this season. The time to worry about that is when they engage Scarborough Group to redevelop Bramall Lane into residential, student and commercial buildings 😳

Well put. While currently working for a company that is Private Equity owned, the pressure will really grow if we don’t get promotion this year. Wherever my company can we are cutting costs and getting rid of quality, experienced people in UK and Europe and moving their roles to India and South Africa. This is akin to SUFC getting rid of UK players and buying Bulgarians and Africans. Sometimes my company is lucky and gets a good employee but the majority are not of the quality or experience of the people they are replacing.
I expect price increases on season tickets and in the club shop next year and players of any value to be sold.
Hope I’m wrong

He was very lucky not to have been sent off. There were a few times last night it seemed like he was keen to be sent off.

Though not as lucky as Soumare for that potential ankle breaker on Doyle.
But JR is the only scapegoat we currently have left, apart from Cannon, we can 'focus' more on him when JR has gone.

I do often wonder why anyone would wish to be involved in football.

Imagine if when you finished work and all you could see was social media criticising and abusing you.
I have a theory that Wilder was not only sick of the Wendy fans abusing his family, that a number of supporters of his own club were also constantly abusing him. Contributing to the 'mutual' consent of his leaving.

Still that's the modern way, and things can only get better allegedly.

Social media and AI rule the roost.

UTB.

Yeah the criticism must be awful. I would say that I've defended Robinson many times and praised him plenty on this forum. Do a carefully filtered search if you don't believe me Jack!

But he was acting the idiot the other night.

Him and A.Davies were the ones that signed autographs during half time at the Basham charity match.

He's reached a status now (captain, consistently starting games) that just doesn't fit his actual ability. He should be a squad player at best for any team with Premier League ambitions.
Won't surprise me if Selles told him that he doesn't see him as a starter and Robinson didn't like it and that's why he was acting the way he did against Birmingham.

That's fine, if you can find a replacement. At the moment we need him, no incoming player that can replace him. The guys at the top may see differently but in a world where money rules I don't see any better.

This is also my Dad's theory. It's something that makes him quite upset/distressed. I know some on here will sneer at that - when I once commented on here, towards the end of last season, about some of the abuse CW was getting from our own fans and that it wasn't acceptable, imo, the response I got was that if CW didn't like being abused, he should have chosen a different career. And when I once commented on my Dad (who's 89) getting upset about the abuse, I just got a sneering, sarcastic remark about my Dad. Some people are just nasty pieces of work, and social media has given them a platform to vent their nastiness with little to no accountability, in a lot of cases, unfortunately.

Of course, a young footballer who had only been in the UK for 10 days mistiming a tackle is exactly the same as a 30+ year old captain of a club repeatedly calling the ref a nobhead and screaming fuck off at a lino.

Any footballer who reads social media/forums is an idiot. Just don't do it. Pele would have been abused, let alone JLT.

Social media has made things far worse. It encourages people to put glib comments into a sentence or two for maximum impact/attention/shock value and almost removes the author’s need to stop and think about what they’ve written. You’ve also got people wanting to be the first to call something - so and so is shit after a couple of games etc.

People don’t get behind players any more, they don’t see themselves as supporters, more consumers and if the team they attach themselves to aren’t giving them the experience they want then they will start calling the players cunts etc. Same with injured players. I’m quite sure they don’t want to be injured. 99% of them would rather be eating their money on the football pitch

The culture around football is so toxic now. I remember when Southgate missed that penalty in 96 against Germany. There was some piss taking but most people felt for the bloke. Fast forward 25 years and anybody missing a penalty for England is getting dogs abuse, even more so if they happen to be black.
