CONFIRMED Jack Robinson incoming

I'm not slagging this Jack Robinson chap off, because I'd never heard of him. I went to check him out and was surprised to find he's no spring chicken, at 26, and yet he's had an undistinguished career all these years, being loaned out more times than a rental car. QPR let him go for nowt and he joined Forest in summer 2018 on a 2 year deal. I then checked out what Forest fans are saying about him and their comments are not very complimentary. So, it's a bit of a strange one this one. Maybe we are looking at him as "cover" - and if so, I can understand that, or maybe he's going to be used as part-payment in a deal involving Luke Freeman going the other way? But, it's not a very inspirational signing based on the limited amount of info we have on him. But...Wilder knows what he's doing, in the main!
His record at signing squad players is very good. Look at Cranie last year. It's going to be much harder to find new starters. I more than comfortable with players like Robinson as part of the match day 18 and starting 4 or 5 games a season

Completely agree, however it could be argued he is already tolerating a couple of big-time charlies!
We are in the big time now, Wilder's no longer has to work with past it optimists but he has to deliver and needs to find the charlies to regularly show their class. The £40m he spent in July could have been on 9 Osborn /Freeman's - great if we want to play Championship but not enough for the promised land where its a Charlies market.

QPR did offer a contract but he turned it down .He's not really got going due to injuries, the potential was there ,wont be costing a lot so yea ! a bit of a gamble.
If it turns out like Mcgoldrick who also had (injury problems) we will be well pleased

Smacks of Ricky Holmes this.

I believe we've chased this lad for a few windows.

Still if he signs I shall give him the benefit of the doubt and get behind him

Kean Bryan isn’t good enough for the PL, he will leave on loan and is our only LCB cover, we won’t improve on JOC in our price range so getting a better cover than we had before is definitely strengthening the squad. Im hoping we have funds to strengthen other areas but only time will tell.

Martin Cranie.

brought in to do a job, cover when needed.

we can’t afford a player as back up that’s as good as JOC And able to fit straight in.

This lads here to replace Bryan...who’s simply looked average in the cups on the ball, and shocking defensively. He would have been a disaster if we’d had to start him.

so chill yer beans folks, said yesterday that it looks likely our prep for next season will begin in June as realistically we won’t be needing improvements to fend off relegation and we haven’t quite got enough to finish top 6. (Not to say we won’t but would need no injuries and need the strikers to start firing consistently)

Osborn has played a handful of times for us and has been solid almost every time. There's no need to write him off as a poor signing yet.
Taking into context all signings made that’s my opinion. I’ve watched him in all his games that he’s started and I have to be honest i feel he’s been poor against lesser opposition. The one that sticks out for me was Sunderland. That said with Bryan behind him it could be that.

Disagree

He was brought it to compete for a midfield spot and cover for Stevens. And at a push JOC if Stevens has to move to lcb.

we were never going to sign 10 first teamers butnn by it was imperative we improvedthe quality of the squad as a whole.
Appreciate your opinion. I have mine, I think as we establish ourselves long term in this league we will want better back up than Osborn in the positions you’ve described he currently covers.

When he's played with the reserves in cup games he's looked as good as the rest of them (i.e. shite). The bit parts he's had in first team games he hasn't done bad.

Two things Firstly it will always be difficult to keep players happy that are not getting regular starts and this also makes it difficult to sign players who are playing regularly for their clubs especially top championship clubs. Therefore I would expect to see a greater turnover amongst the backup players Kieron Freeman and Bryon out and Robinson in, Stearman out Rodwell in. It might even be the same with someone like Luke Freeman, he may go in the summer and we sign an equally good back up for Fleck. It will keep the squad fresh and avoid discontentment, players coming in are much more likely to fight for their place than those who have been here for years without regular starts. I don’t think loans work here that more for younger players you want to get experience, although it might work with loans in, especially with a view to a permanent move.
Secondly the lack of activity should not worry us, if we were struggling yes maybe but we can afford to wait to the summer when you get better value and have time to get players up to speed with our system and fitness.
Lastly have no fear blades, the best signing has already occurred CW, not least because that tells us he is quite happy with his budget etc for this window and the future. If he is happy I am.

Didn’t we sign Brentford’s 4th and 5th choice defenders?.......look how that turned out.

one thing for sure is he will be better than Bryan which is therefore an improvement on the squad

In fairness, we hired from above in those circumstances.

“has to deliver”. Really?

Robinson doesn't seem to have played a massive amount of football for a lad who's 26 (injuries notwithstanding) but as others have said, he's a better back up option to Kean Bryan, having played a reasonable amount of Championship football in comparison.
Bryan needs sending to League One on loan until his contract is up and count it as a failed experiment because he'll never start a Premier League game for anyone, ever IMO.

Whether its for cover or not, we are in the fcking PL sitting in 7th.....not a fan of this signing at all. I want better. We have an opportunity of a lifetime, now is the time to splash a little bit of cash and see what CWAK can do.

What cash would you spend and who on....to guarantee?! this once in a lifetime opportunity?

This season is beyond anyone's expectations. Would i like to see a couple quality signings to give us the reinforcement that i feel we deserve... yes.
I understand, but we're safe. Yeah we could spend on overpriced players trying to get that european spot, but it's not guaranteed. I'd rather assess our options for the summer and spend it then.

Don't forget, we've already spent 2x what our supposed budget was.

Kean Bryan is barely good enough for League One/Two. Definitely not good enough for the top two divisions. Robinson has at least done it in the Championship for a few years. How can anyone complain, really?
