Think you misread my post. Was saying DONT think medical team were sacked because of this. But DO think his injury was mismanaged.
Possibly the worry and concern and theory about the medical team being sacked are in part due to the number of seasons when we had a good run and this season when it appears the only one not to be injured was Captain Blade

I think there was a concern end of last season that we had used the same 11 players more than any other club in the premier league.

Asking same 11 to do the same again whilst staying injury free was asking for a miracle.

signing squad fillers and players for the future was naive. We needed to sign players who could come in and take the load off the first 11.

Completely agree, it's a balancing act and complicated trying to operate to a budget, keep everyone happy, sign a mixture of those that can offer more than we have, some that can step in and do a job, and some for the future

Slater only got a start because of injury and was demoted to the bench again when they had everyone back. He's definitely not going to start for Hull next season. They may sign him as a squad player.

Was a bit part player for a chunk of the season but started all but 1 of their last 9 games and went down well with the fans. Had a great run in with them and won the league. Brilliant experience for him.

What I have heard is there is now genuine concern at the club about whether he will play again.

Wow. Didn't it all start with a collision in training with Henderson? One goes on to become potentially the England keeper, the other, who was talked of in England circles might not play again.

If that turns out to be the case, it’s very bad news from a football perspective & very sad news from a human perspective, especially for JOC of course.
I only played amateur football & hated being out for a few weeks with a minor injury. Can only begin to imagine how he must be feeling if this is true.

Does anyone know what his injury actually is? I might have missed something but all I know is it was / is a knee injury and then he had a setback. I don't remember seeing anything about what the injury actually is.

Be awful if he never played again. Never mind us but for him personally.
Sent around lower league clubs for years, finally settling at the Blades and working his bollocks off to be (IMO) the best left sided defender in the country who should have been starting for England in major tournaments.

hopefully he makes it back 🙏

The fact he's on the season ticket campaign with the new lads gives me a little bit of hope. I'm not looking too much into it though.

I think if O'Connell is not back at pre season training with the squad, then the discussion over his future in football will grow.

We heard 3 or 4 months ago he was close to a return, then had a 'bit' of a set back. Now we have heard nothing from anyone for ages snd not seen him training or even around Shirecliffe?

He played a few games towards the end of last season (4 or 5) in July and the first two this but 7 games in 14 months (he was probably not right in these either) is s worry. His 'latest' injury in Sept is 8 months ago. To now seemingly not even be doing rehab or training seems odd. The club have not mentioned him recently as far as I am aware either? I am concerned that he is not even training/rehabbing....maybe they need to try again with another op? If they do then that's another season possibly and not many players come back after 2 years out of the game.

Maybe I am wrong but if he is not back training or close to even fitness now after 8 months (actually prob more like 11 if the original injury happened last June) then I think we have to be concerned? Even players with ACL injuries can be back quicker than this in some instances.

I am not sure we need to worry about losing him in a transfer move anytime soon but just getting him back at some point would be huge but there has to be concerns he will ever get to the level he had before. Sad really as looked a player that would go tight to the top. Hopefully my pessimism is misguided and he still can.

From what I've heard (from his instagram account), JoC is running and cycling and doing fitness work. I suppose the crunch will come when he starts trying to play again, and all the twists and jolts to the pre-injured area and if it holds up ok in competetive games. Fingers crossed he manages it.

I think it has to be assumed he won’t be ready for next season, to play forty odd games. We need a replacement. A solid, big, physical centre half who is capable of playing in a back four. Along with some midfielders, that has to be our priority. We should be able to find one, at around 24/5, who’s capable of being a good championship player and has the potential to step up a level. Let JOC come back slowly and carefully and then they can compete for the first team place.

I was told that he’s not had Cartlidge in his knee since he was young. I’d not heard about a collision

Posted on one of the Friendface groups. Don't think it's Photoshoped. If Jokanovic is the Boss, is JOC his Hitman!?

It's not photoshopped it's from an instagram story by his trainer.

Absolute hard bastard is JOC. Hope his leg is as reyt as his upper arms.

Hard at it on the bike. Nothing like playing football obviously but gives a little hope.

Pretty embarrassing really, hitting pads with no top on. Doesn’t really come across as committed to his profession
I used to play Sunday league after gallons of ale and single malt, powered by Jaffa cakes and jelly babies. Plus ad head and tackle anything that came near me for first 30 seconds of each half.
Put yer shirt on kid til you can match that commitment 🤪

In reality, I really hope he’s back and firing on all cylinders come the start of the season. Not only was he instrumental in our defence but this season showed he pretty much carried Enda and Fleck for 2 years

Jaffa cakes always gave me indigestion, Jelly Babies and Jelly Beans were power food!

We need him back, really need him!

The big question has to be who really knows about how he's going to come back from so many set backs? I'm worried for him in that regard. For me even though he’s only played 4 seasons for us, he is one of our best defenders. Certainly in my lifetime he's top 3.

Surely there will be some pull or tweak as he comes back given his time out. Obviously hope he smashes it like it’s a glass at a Jewish wedding as he undoubtably is our most critical and influential player.

Watched the highlights of most of the games from the 1st PL season and the big standout was the huge impact that JOC had in all the games.
He was Ironman at the back, heading and tackling and then taking on defenders down the flanks, banging crosses in, shooting from range.
If he can get back playing at somewhere near his best we will be sorted.
What a player!!

If he comes back we’d need him on a new deal because once he proves his match fitness they’ll be several PL clubs interested in him.
I think he’s our only undoubtedly premier league quality player in the entire squad.
