Club has used JOC as the face when tweeting about new seasons fixtures. Could be said I’m reading too much into it but there is a thought process that goes init such matters it’s like using a player to promote a kit when they’re 100 % nailed onto leave weeks later..

Can only be a good thing.. that or his Injury is that bad that he’s out for the season and has no chance of leaving 😫

It costs money to re-do artwork and printing new banners etc. I don't think the club would use his image unless they were fairly certain he was staying this season.

Sadly, I do think that most likely means it's going to be a bit longer before he returns from injury.

Anybody else hearing the rumours circulating that JOC is finished? Apparently the injury is career ending?

Was rumoured back at start of May, and I’ve seen plenty of videos of him working on his fitness in the off season so far. Think there would have been something concrete by now if it was true

Just something that's been flying about today

I think because he is the one player who represents the essence of what Sheffield United is. Even if he doesn’t kick a ball this year he’s the right face of the first team.

I’ve not seen anything showing him running or putting weight on it.
Quite a lot of people have suggested he’s finished at the top level, I hope they’re wrong but fear they’re likely to be right.

On fb, someone asking if it's true that he has retired. Anyone know anymore on Jack

Had another op recently. Done if that fails.

Are we taking Dean Henderson to court for the transfer fee for a new defender? 😉

What actually is it with JOC that's making it so difficult to recover? Because at various times he's either played or looked close to being vack.

Seems strange in this day and age for a player to retire with an injury, usually it's the skull fractures that can do that not knee/leg issues.

Thought it was a degenerative cartilage issue for JOC?

If the rumours are true, and JOC really is done, then what a tragedy that would be.

He has shown that he can cope with ease at the top level, and I had no doubts at all that he would go on to play for one of the world's top clubs, and become an England main stay.

Please let this just be speculation. :(

100% agree with that. I don’t think he was too far off a call up in the first season back in the prem. I’d be gutted if his career is brought to an end from this.

They can do cartilage transplants these days.

A former player I know travelled over to the US years ago and came back at a good level.

Apparently lots of NFL players have it done.

Not sure on JOC's circumstances. I was assuming it was ligaments but don't know.

Wasn't there some suggestion he should have had something done at the back end of the first Prem season?

Yeah it’s all been pretty garbled about JOC other than it being a contact injury and then wilder saying we’d rushed him back for the restart and it’s gone wrong.

I think if a player is out for 12 months + in todays day and age with treatments available then I'd be really concerned. Even serious ACLs players can be back quicker.

If he has had another op as some suggest then you'd think that's the last chance at him ever coming back. That is not even guaranteed top level either...just to get playing again at any level.

I really don't want to speculate but someone being out for such a long period and clearly this is not being solved or they have tried various treatments, starting last summer after the first injury early lockdown and then another op after the 2nd injury post Leeds...then he had a set back January was it when meant to be back. Now he does not seem to be involved in 1st team training?

Just hope he gets back but I'm not factoring him into our future short term at all. He seemingly had a chance of being an established EPL defender and on the cusp of an England call up and now he is trying just to play football again.

Not sure but I remember it started with a training collision with Henderson in the build up to the Villa game.

I assumed it was ligaments, and he had a botched op that needed fixing but it doesn't sound great, feels a bit "no smoke without fire" with the rumours going around.

Deadbat is right when he talks about the amount of time he’s been out now that doesn’t suggest a ligament or muscle injury. The specialist knowledge at fixing stuff like that is superb now just look at Berge he had a really freakish injury and was back the same season. At this point I’d imagine he’s having some hard conversations about how best to manage whatever it is that’s wrong and where football does or doesn’t fit in that.

Barnsley keeper, Dave Watson, had a botched knee op that put paid to his career
