Early in the season people, were saying EEL was the best Centre Back since Harry Maguire, for me Jack O'Connell is better than both of them and he showed off all his great qualities today, especially by getting an assist today as well. Gonna go a long way this young chap.

UTB!!!

E]I've been blowing his trumpet (so to speak) since he came on at half time v Oxford at home...

My biggest fear for next season is whether we can hold on to him when a shit kicking PL team (a la Hull, Bournemouth) come sniffing..

Player of the year contender for me.

Mrs Mobile came back from the garden centre with three bags of this - said she bought it just for me to help me get over the summer withdrawal. When's the fucking season start again.

Doesn't look like there are any hats in it at all. It's just dried up shit to put on the roses.

I bet Mrs Mobile laughed her tits off at her easily pleased husband. She could have at least put a daft hat on, or something.

Or thrown a brick at his head?

People were saying it because early in the season EEL was our best defender and played a massive role in starting our march up the table. As soon as EEL acquired the security of an extended lucrative contract at Wolves his form dipped, then he had a spell around Jan/ Feb where is confidence went and he was dropped.

O'Connell seem to get better as the season wore on and looked a really start by the end of the season.

Still too early to judge either player yet.
Looking forward to next season to see how last years stars cope with the higher level.

At which point did I say I was easily pleased :)

Quite the opposite - I hate close season!!!!

Which brings us nicely to the question, after they've finished spending on new players for the new season who are they going to sell to pay for it ?.......:(

One season in L1 at you are telling me Jack O'Connell is better than Maguire !! Are you serious?

Lets see what next seasons performances bring and we can compare them a little closer then. Don't misunderstand, i thought O'Connell was excellent last season but there is just too big a gap in the opposition they play against week in week out.

This. People get carried away easily which in understandable after the season we've just had. I love JOC but Harry Maguire was different class when he was with us.

I think people forget just how good Maguire was he was always destined for the premiership right from when he first broke into the first team as an 18 year old.

And my two penneth.....

I don't rate EEL. He scored a few important goals from corners and we decided he was the next hero to worship, Brayford style.

Thing is, he is pretty flakey on the ball, cumbersome, ball goes anywhere when he wins it defensively... He helped us out totally, but I think the only reason Wolves offered him a new deal was so they could shaft us for more cash due to the adulation for him.

He signed it too....so for me, he can stay there. Plenty more options out there.

that's too simple a view if wilder wants him and values him at 300k for example then that's what we will bid regardless of his contract.. don't get me wrong if we could have taken him free then great, but his heart was at wolves all along! its going to be interesting to see if they want him now!

YES JOC i believe, is much better than Harry Maguire, his tackling is superb, he wins every header and he can pass out the back. Furthermore, unlike Harry Maguire I believe he could consistently play at the top level.

Agree completely with all that and just add if he's not good enough for Wolves next season he sure ain't good enough for us.
Wouldn't touch him.

Yep, spot on for me.

He was EXACTLY what we needed to steady the ship, but as we started to dominate games his lack of footballing ability on the deck became very apparent. Some useful goals at key times and he contributed to us getting out of the league - so it should be a big thank you from us all.

Lambert giving him a 3.5 year contract was a blessing in disguise.

There is much much better out there - it's up to Paul Mitchel to find a better one.

...AND THAT LASTED A LONG TIME, DIDN'T IT?

HE WAS ALSO PART OF A DEFENCE THAT SAW US GET 100 POINTS. THAT IS SUCH AN ACHIEVEMENT I'M TEMPTED TO WRITE ABOUT IT IN CAPITAL LETTERS.
THANKS FOR MANSPLAINING :p

I am with those who don't rate him. A number of goals we conceded were down to him. Thanks but no thanks.

Agree with all that. When EEL first came (Gillingham - game after we'd finally won v Oxford) we were a mess and EEL fitted the bill. But as we improved, EEL didn't.

Not this coming season there isn't. Hull are fucked and could well go straight through this division. Maguire will leave if he's got any sense.

Incidentally, this is from the Sky site. Do they know something that Hull fans don't?

He was very good against Charlton. Broke up a number of attacks through excellent positioning. Always seemed to be in the right place.

Regarding Hulls name, it's funny but that's the way Premier teams are advertised over here in the US. For example, I was talking to someone recently who said he and his son were supporting the Lancashire Clarets.

Maybe but you can pick solitary games of any professional player when they've played well.

Hell, go one better and you can create a wonderful YouTube montage.

True, but I say that because I don't get back that often and it was the only game I managed to see in person last season.
Guess I just got lucky with EEL, but he impressed me.
It was the opposite with Brayford who had a huge reputation at the time but played like a cart horse.

Yeah, that can blind your opinion I guess.

Or it can make me watch the players more closely than your average punter.
There were a number of people around me who spent more time on their phones and talkiing shite about last night's curry than watching the game.

I agree, initially it was the tourists who were more interested in filming the ground. Places like the Emirates and Old trafford was common for this.

Now we have people who spend all game recording it rather than actually watching it. Every time there's a corner, or a penalty, there's the phones out brigade...

and don't forget the Barry Manilow Concert phone lightshow at the sty.
