Hi all, been reading this forum for a good while now and decided to get involved!

Just thought I would add my thoughts on J'OC. So much praise and attention has been placed on Ebanks-Landell (and rightly so imo) that this lad seems to have been forgotten about somewhat. After some really poor mistakes in the first few games he is starting to look a real player to me. Has the agression to win the ball, but also looks so comfortable with the ball at his feet. This was typified by his part in the scunthorpe free kick routine.

Think if we keep him long term he will end up as captain at some point. Partnership with him and the tank looks very promisig at the moment though! Optimistic for the season!

He's only relatively young so has a great future ahead of him.

Agreed, so happy that we finally, possibly a tough tackling/goalscoring midfielder apart have a strong spine to the team. Complete faith in Wilder to ensure we keep pushing on and add some extra talent in January. I say this every season, but this might just be our year!

O'Connell's impressed me more than EEL recently. His starting position always seems to be good before attacking/clearing the ball, and he's aggressive but assured.

I can see him growing as a ball playing defender in a similar way to Maguire. I've already seen some good crossfield balls from him, and his comfort playing left back suggests he'll be more than capable of playing it out from centre back.

It is easier for him on the left of a back three though, it suits him well.
 
Is this a player who's going to improve during his tenure?

Struggling to remember the last one. Che started out like a bomb only to flicker. So Jamie Murphy - the last player we actually improved?
 
O'Connell has the makings of a really good player. Apart from a couple of mistakes early on, albeit in front of George, he looks solid in the air, got good feet and isn't slow.
 
He reads the game well, can mix it , has decent pace and good distribution. He can switch off from time to time but hopefully regular games knocks this out of him.
 
The good thing about his mistakes early in the season were that they weren't down to lack of technical ability/strength etc. They were due to changes in system, having differing centre back partners and a goalkeeper no one had faith in behind him.

I like this lad a lot, think someone above alluded to it, but he has got the feel to a Maguire about him - lots of raw talent to work with, but already looking assured.
 
I think we'll get a decent price for him when the time comes, like Barnsley did with Alfie Mawson.
Clubs with lots of money love to nick a good young defender.
 
I'm glad someone has brought this up . I like the Tank but O'connell has been even better the last 3 games.Better than the Ebank's with the ball at his feet.I think he will be good enough for the Championship if we go up.As for Ebanks, im not so sure. League one might be his level.

I was thinking about the Scunthorpe free kick routine and I thought, just imagine if that was Collins or Mceverley trying to play that ball... J'OC and EEL might not be the finished article yet but at 22/23 I am far more excited to have these 2 at the back then some of the shambolic centre backs we have had in recent seasons!
 



While on the Scunthorpe-O'Connel theme... let's not forget them 3 horrendous clearances in the space of 10 seconds. I do like him - can clearly play - but he'll have to cut out the mistakes.

To judge him as of now I'd say he's a mix between Paul McGrath and Neill Collins.

Right then superman7 you dont come on here spouting common sense straight away ok, and you do see what you've done dont you? Everybody praising O'Connell and poor old EEL? Well he will be dog shit in just a couple of weeks,and its your fault,you mark my words :-?

Ha! Apologies Boxer, don't want any right hooks coming may way now ;). I'm sure EEL can handle it though. Just wait till I start praising Simon Moore next, then everyone will start calling George Long shit and forget about him too. Oh wait a second... Lol

Don't start praising Coutts ,I tried that last year and am still paying for it.

when Billy was subbed last week, he gave the armband to O'Connell so you've already missed it ;)
 
JOC is the better footballer of the two. EEL is just an absolute brute who is actually pretty clumsy with the ball at his feet. It's something we've missed and he's been worth his weight in gold in games so far but I think JOC might go further in the long term. Delighted to have both in our team at present and hope EEL becomes a permanent fixture.
 
One big reason to be quite optimistic for the season as a whole is that JOC and EEL will only get better, individually and together. They're both 23 - established but still young, and it's a typical age for centre halves in particular to develop significantly.

yes, he looks like a brick shit house - just what we need and I am sure both he and JOC have benefited from Jake Wright being between them.

I did a wiki on them both and at 6' 2" are not massive but both have attributes that compliment.

For the sake of repeating this "old chestnut" - it justifies the many who have called for just this for the past few years......... good CH's.

Doesn't this prove, what a shrewd signing bringing Wright in to the club was as well? Someone who has never played in League 1 yet he really has been that key link for the defence. I watched him at home against Peterborough I think, from the back of the kop and he organises / leads the line very well.
 
This was a solid prediction early on in the season! J'OC provind to indeed be a top top player for us!

And now you're gonna believe us...
