I know Wilders said we need leaders, I get that. I also thought the clubs philosophy is to sign younger players that have a resale value?

It may well be we need an older head or two, but in Egan (if he signs) and Robinson we have that experience, certainly at the back. Perhaps to play an older head alongside OA?

Personally, I’m not keen on signing players at this age, but then it has fk all to do with me

It's not exciting signing someone at 34 but Stuart McCall was 37 when we signed him and that turned out well; until Warnock signed Mark Ranking!
Worst thing to happen him playing we against Preston!

I do wonder how we would have gone with Brown and McCall and with Windass and Kabba.

It did seem McCall and Windass were running out of steam a bit however.

Not against cork coming will help harmer and blaster, Just will he be up to 40 plus games a season is my only concern but good pro and likes a tackle

Only needs to play 70 mins each game tbh, if it’s free and wages aren’t to much I’m not against it

If he signs (and provided his legs haven't gone!) I think this would be a clever signing on a shortish deal (no more than 2 years, ideally 1 year with option). He would stiffen up our soft as shit midfield/defence anyway and give us options in the middle. I'm for it but would like another younger lad to be brought in there too. Its a long season with 46 games and we won't have the same 11 playing week in week out so we need squad depth. Cork would add to this.

I think if we’re investing funds we probably want it to be into an asset we can expect a return on but not sure we’re that fussed about resale value with frees

And so it begins....

Heckys womad type signings have flopped other than Hamer who was already here in the UK

Resale in premier league but we need players to get us up and with bash, egan, baldock, Stevens, sharp all missing or gone and going in the summer the lack of leadership is obvious

So.. I don't mean to be funny but if he's not deemed good enough for burnley then why are we going down the same path. We're doing what we always do, collecting over the hill gang again.
My Burnley mate said Sean Dyche would have kept him if he was still at Turf Moor. We need leaders in the middle

Have a like for “womad” signings

Now delivers for Sainsbury's (Alan not Jack!). I was a little surprised when he turned up at my door! But then he probably wasn't expecting to meet a Blade in darkest West Sussex!!! He was happy to have a chat.
Couldn't imagine a Premier League footballer from this era doing that in thirty years time!

Just spoke to a Burnley season ticket holder who doesn't like Kompany. He said Cork is a popular hard man in the middle, gets booked a lot. Can also play at centre back and right back. He is disappointed that Burnley are releasing him and Gudmundsson. Dyche would have kept them if he was still at Burnley. He is worried that Taylor, Rodriguez and Brownhills may leave Burnley too
It's getting a bit Dads Army in the rumor mill, but if they are releasing Charlie Taylor as well, that could be a great pick up on a free.

He’s 34.

I often thought he might join us like his Dad.

But we are in the process of moving on Norwood and have done the same with Fleck.

I’m intrigued in the thinking of signing a player older than both!

In contrast to Norwood who has had plenty of involvement albeit reduced recently, Cork hasn’t started a single game though he did manage 40+ the prior season.

I’d be more enthused with Leonards than Corks of this world but then again, two of the better players over my time watching United were Stuart McCall and Gordon Cowans and they were both 38 when they were playing for us!

Let’s see what the squad is like come kick off.
..or at the end of the window ?

..or at the end of the window ?
Not this again, the season starts a lot earlier than the end of the window.

Waiting and signing whatever is left at the end of the window with no preseason/integration into the group is the opposite of what we should be doing.

A few of us were told to ‘be patient’ last summer. The result was that we turned out one of the weakest PL teams ever for the whole of August.

Let’s not repeat this mistake or the -2 won’t be disappearing anywhere quickly.
