It's quite a tricky one.
If he is retained, it would seem inevitable that he'll end up starting 35+ games again next season, and that wouldn't be a good sign.
On the other hand, we can't get rid of everybody. We still need numbers, squad players. We still need experience and good professionals. We shouldn't give ourselves unnecessary work to do in the transfer window - we have enough difficulty as it is.
Left sided centre halves aren't easy to come by, and with it looking like 3-5-2 will be a regular option for us in the future, he'd be useful to have around, because he looks more natural in the LCB position than he does as a conventional CB or LB. In a decent side you can also get away with him at LB.
So I think I'd keep him on a one year deal, I'd just hope he wouldn't be a regular. I don't think he will be if things go to plan, because I think Adkins will want a better attacking left back and I think he'll revert to 4-4-2 if he can get the right players. Even if McEveley ends up at left back all season though, we could do worse.
