For me another good perfomance, I think he has played well this last few weeks, if you can forget his earlier form I reckon most people would be saying he is a solid reliable player who can play in a couple of positions, looks comfortable on the ball and looks confident in playing with a back three. Now the question do you want him here next season, for me yes.

If we can't get anyone better in then he could definitely do a job for us. Wouldn't be the end of the world if he stays.

Yes

He's been doing a good job in general for quite some time now, it just goes to show that if you play well enough you won't get anybody berating you, none of this so called scapegoating bollocks. He was playing shite in the first half of the season and has played well in the second half of the season, nothing more nothing less, well done Jay Mc.

The way he's been playing, consistently, for a good two months or more, I can't see why anyone would complain at all about him being here next year?

All the more admirable how he's come through adversity, from being the whipping boy to a generally acknowledged higher-than-average performer.
Very pleased, in particular, how he's cut out the stupid rash challenges on the edge of the box that gifted one or two dangerous free-kicks a game.*

(* He left that to Ben Whiteman today. But forgiveable, given his age. And also because of the comedy value arising from Oldham's preposterous free-kick routine.)

Just think he is playing with some confidence, which as we all know goes a long way, the team has had so little of late, but j mac has looked pretty good to me, lets hope it continues

NO NO!! It's typical of us to offer this guy a further contract. His recent form has been fine, but you have to wonder:

Is it because he wants a new contract?
Is he good enough (consistently) to be in a promotion winning side?

For me, he needs to go. Just because he is indicative of what is wrong. On the whole, he has been poor, and we should expect better if we want promotion.

It's quite a tricky one.

If he is retained, it would seem inevitable that he'll end up starting 35+ games again next season, and that wouldn't be a good sign.

On the other hand, we can't get rid of everybody. We still need numbers, squad players. We still need experience and good professionals. We shouldn't give ourselves unnecessary work to do in the transfer window - we have enough difficulty as it is.
Left sided centre halves aren't easy to come by, and with it looking like 3-5-2 will be a regular option for us in the future, he'd be useful to have around, because he looks more natural in the LCB position than he does as a conventional CB or LB. In a decent side you can also get away with him at LB.

So I think I'd keep him on a one year deal, I'd just hope he wouldn't be a regular. I don't think he will be if things go to plan, because I think Adkins will want a better attacking left back and I think he'll revert to 4-4-2 if he can get the right players. Even if McEveley ends up at left back all season though, we could do worse.

That was a free kick to rival the infamous Bromby pea roller from the Blackwell era.

He's still a poor player and a liability and he's the wrong side of thirty. If he has a few steady games then good for him but he's still the player that Swindon released.

We desperately need weaker players off the books in order to make improvements. McEveley has to be near the top of the list to go.

The trouble with him has always been the same thing, he goes to sleep or panics and gifts away goals. Like buses, mistakes from goalies and defenders seem to come along 5 at once. Then you are stuck in the almost never-ending loop of drop them, play them and they cock up again, drop them again. Players like that are dangerous to rely on.

Nice to hear, thought he did alright at centre half last season, but thought he was awful there earlier in the season and he really wasn't a left back. But in the left side of the back 3 he has got quite a few plaudits, probably helps that he's not playing next to that moaning cunt Collins, blaming him for his own mistakes.

Well done J Mac.

The bloke has certainly picked his game up but to me is still inconsistent . The bottom line for us , are we taking going for promotion and building a squad to achieve this aim seriously . If we are forget about sentiment , and any player who has only done ok / average over part of a full season has to go and not be retained.

This mish mash of players have not cut the mustard . Adkins has to be ruthless for the clubs and his own sake.

We cannot have any player on the books who can cause a calamity of errors. It tells us something of the level of clubs after our players , we are trying to off load . Would you buy any of them . I wouldn't.

We need every player who we can fully rely on , not just to make the squad numbers up. Proper football players , playing in there comfortable proper positions , no more square pegs in round holes.

Also any player who we have , and can play a number of positions - is quality and versatile . Let's get real we want winners and players who will run through a shit house door for the honour of wearing the red and white shirt next season.

My brother is over from Australia was at the Lane yesterday for the first time in 6 or 7 years.

He knew none of our players and had no preconceptions but his view was that McEverley was our stand out player yesterday.

My mate next to me thought Done and personally I was impressed with Flynn.

I'm not saying that anyone is right or wrong but my brother's view certainly supports that of the OP and I aint arguing

I was never a fan of McEverly but as a player in the last few months he has been playing well so for now i have no problem woth him in the side.

But as a captain I don't rate him.
He never seems to be communicating instructions, and his head drops if we go a goal down, he does try and get our players heads up.
I've always never seen him in the referees face like ever other captain in the league.

1v1 he almost never gets beaten. To me this is really.noticeable. He retains possession well. He can drive forward with the ball - should do it more but maybe he's under orders. His passing is good enough.

I wouldn't have him as captain but if we're still in Division 3 next season I'd have him in the team. Unless Kelly is a new Kyle.

There is one flaw in your justification... He's probably watched Monty playing down under for the last 2 years and thinks THAT is a footballer ;)

Very impressed with jmac yesterday, I even uttered the words, go on jay at one point, it felt so stupid as the words came out it was a little muted ...

He had a great game yesterday, if he was playing for a new deal, isn't that what they all should have been doing this season, instead of acting like kids on Twitter..

He's been good for more than the last few weeks. And he was good for much of last season.

He lost his form at the back end of last season, and needed a rest. Lack of defenders meant that couldn't happen, and his confidence took a massive knock.

I'd keep him for next season, on the right money (which is always s question for our lot)

Footballer near end of contract in performing well shocker.

Funnily enough Flynn suddenly looks fit and good again, the last time that happened was in 2014 when funnily enough he was also coming to the end of his contract as he is again now.

JMac has been good. But we can and must do better if we are serious about promotion.

Fuck me, are you really talking about J Mac? (its really aimed at everyone else because i'm presuming i'm on WHF's ignore list)

If i was to sum him up from what we saw of him at Centre half and Left back earlier in the season:

He was awful 1v1, he gave possession away far too often and he didn't ever drive forward with the ball.

Admittedly, the game i saw in Feb he had improved defensively, but like Basham, his distribution was still shocking.

I can't comment on yesterday, but J Mac has a long way to go before he gets anywhere near my retained list.

And he's not a captain.

I have a gutting feeling a good few players will lull the fans in to a false sense of security, new contracts will be issued, to which they will then return to being atrocious, stopping the clear out and overhaul for another season.

I think your fears may be true. However, on this one, I personally have always been a supporter of his, at the right money.
