'I've never wanted to leave Lane' - Webber
TOMORROW'S visit to the KC Stadium sees Danny Webber come face to face with one of the club's rumoured to be courting his signature last summer.
As the dust still settled on Sheffield United's controversial relegation from the Premier League, Hull City and Watford were, according to some sections of the media, squaring up ready to battle for his services.
Suggestions of a move to Crystal Palace following Neil Warnock's appointment at Selhurst Park were inevitable.
But, fresh from underlining his worth to United with a man-of-the-match performance at Leicester in midweek, Webber insists he never had any intention of leaving Bramall Lane.
"I'm happy here," he said after applying the finishing touches to his preparations for a Yorkshire derby expected to be watched by Hull's biggest crowd of the Championship season so far.
"If I believed everything I read in the papers then I wouldn't know if I was coming or going."
Webber's words will come as a great relief to Blades boss Bryan Robson who, since replacing Warnock, has made no secret of his admiration for the striker's qualities.
The problem was, Robson seemed to believe, how best to accomdate him in a squad bursting at the seams with centre-forwards.
Robson's decision that a 4-3-3 system best suits the options at his disposal - although this may change defending on the result of his search for a new midfielder - led to a recall for Webber on Tuesday evening.
Together with Luton Shelton and James Beattie, he helped deliver a first away win since December.
Providing Shelton recovers from injury in time to face Hull, the same front three will take to the field against Phil Brown's men.
According to Webber, the competition for places in United's attack has not had a detrimental effect on morale.

"There's a lot of us here but we all bring something a little bit different to the table," Webber continued. "Because we are at a club with big ambitions, everyone stays focused and happy.
"Don't get me wrong, it's disappointing when you are left out, but there's no point in just moping about."
Hard work has been the watch word at Shirecliffe since United's return from the Midlands and Webber, despite admitting the Blades have failed to perform during certain stages of some games, remains adamant that his teammates do not warrant a ranking of 17th in the table.
"Of course there's pressure but no one puts us under more pressure than we put ourselves under," he said.
"We've done well in spells and not so well in others but I don't think that overall we deserve to be where we are.
"There are lots of points to play for and I really believe that if we continue to work hard then we'll be right back up there."
Good interview with Webber.
Looks like he wont be tempted to leave anytime soon.
