That drive me mad as a Blade!

Wigan & Blackburn come straight back up after 1 season in League 1, & it took us 6 seasons!

Barnsley lose to Forest & Leeds, draw with Bolton, but beat us!

It's enough to turn me onto the communion wine!

That's me done until next season.

Arrivederci!

We were unlucky first season, let's be honest. The following 4 just blindly incompetent from the top down.

You could see it like that.

Or you could see it as the last league game at Bramall Lane for 3 months and a chance to toast the pub team for what we have achieved, rather than mope about what could have been.

Yeah, I suppose. But we all know there'll be a severe lack of toast, it will just be nondescript silence as always.

I also think disappointment is the prevalent feeling among the fans now which may seem wrong given where we've come from, but it's quite understandable given how we've thrown it all away.

I think it's very understandable personally, maybe I'm wrong for that. I just think we've looked like a lower mid table side since January and it's been poor in fairness.

We seem to have lost our cutting edge upfront and we don't seem as entertaining and gung-ho going forward which was so brilliant to watch. We've looked like a (less bland) Ipswich or QPR since then.

Baffling decisions in selection and subs have also been a qualm of mine too. Also the same soundbites about 'sorting it out' when we play shit, and then repeating the same performance (Hull to Barnsley to Birmingham)

I recommend cooking lager.

Not from me, sir. A few jars and a rousing rendition of 'We're not going down, we're not going up...' are well in order.

I'm disappointed too of course and I wish things had gone differently, but if we truly are done now then let's try to go out on a high. 72 points still achievable. Not a bad return.

I know, the damned unpredictability of what i consider to be a fantastic league.

Its like us losing to relegation threatened Barnsley and Birmingham but then beating Play off hopefuls Middlesborough

You could see it like that.

Exactly! Some of us can't make the game and can only applaud from a distance! But its been a fantastic couple of years.

Its not lacking ambition to be relieved that our fantastic start to the season has enabled us to confirm that we couldn't go down a long time ago.

Two games to go and we know we'll finish no lower than 11th place, potentially being able to finish as high as 5th... Its unlikely to be 5th or 6th, but right now, its still mathematically possible

to be fair, not getting in the play offs might be a good thing for us

1) means less money spent on extortionate ticket prices in the away leg and if we got to Wembley then an expensive day out to see us undoubtedly lose (not doubting United, just the curse of Wembley)

2) prevent us from getting battered from behind by Fulham, Villa, or Cardiff (yes i am doubting united, just the way our 2nd half of the season has gone)

Overall I'm happy with the season. I'm not talking about "I would have taken this at the beginning of the season" and there is also plenty to be very unhappy about:
  • Ownership issues
  • Middlesboro away
  • Loss of form after loss of Coutts at Burton.
  • Loss of big points when we should have won (Pigs home, Hull away, Barnsley Away, Ipswich away, Brentford Away, Cardiff home, Milwall home and Birmingham away).
  • Therefore losing out on playoffs / promotion.
But there is so much to be happy with;
  • Bouncing Day
  • Double over dirty Leeds
  • Top half finish
  • Brooks's development and leaving Pigs and Boro red faced
  • Blackman's development and some incredible saves
  • Some amazing season performances from Fleck, Duffy and Bash as well as Leon's goals
  • Leon's 4 against Hull
  • Lee Evans goals against Boro
So on balance I reckon I'm a glass half full this season.

On a side note...

the last league game at Bramall Lane for 3 months

Damn right! This has been our highest finish for years and, despite the disappointing last half of the season, it's been a good season for us Blades. W, L or D, I intend to clap them off at the end - we're not like those 'supporters' who fuck off in a huff, put our clackers away and start watching 'Strictly'.

Close season almost upon us.

LETS GET READY TO RAAAAAAAAMMMMMBLLLLLE !!!!

I'm licking my lips in anticipation just THINKING about the retained list.

And don't get me started on the kit rumours...

Coming soon to S24SU.

As others have said we have applaud them on saturday. Yeah Gutted that play offs are but over. this last mth has been really disappointing, filled with missed opportunities. But we cant have it overshadow that overall we have surpassed all expectations we couldve had beating wednesday at hillsborough so comprehensively. Double over leeds & never in a relegation battle at any point. I really hope everyone stays behind for well deserved lap of honour

We have to hope that like klopp at liverpool wilder will learn, we can get more strength in depth to keep the intensity for 9 months instead of 6.
