It's a grumble!.... - South Stand ticket move & press box

Don't be a silly sausage.
You know, I know, the whole fuckin' world knows.
Stevie Wonder can see where the problem stems from.
Just up the coast from Robin Hoods Bay.
I’m heading that way tomorrow until Wednesday, as it happens. Scarbs for the cricket, Whitby stop off. Fish & chips at the Magpie. Wonderful

Danny04 . Simple.

If you believe you know the circumstances of the problem, can you tell me the date the club were made aware that the press box would need extending please? Maybe then add when the information was available to ask about. Did the club anticipate the requirements when promotion was becoming more and more possible? Is this a new requirement or a bog standard, long standing requirement?

The letters were sent out very late in the piece.

I'm sorry, it's up to the club to know this before selling season tickets. They shouldn't sell seats they can't provide. Full stop. Regardless if we got promoted or not. There should have been a disclaimer when he purchased.

It clearly says in the letter that Deadbat received that only odd seats were available in the south stand. I take that to mean single seats as anyone else probably would it is quite laughable to suggest seats were set aside, if this were the case there would be no real need to move 100 people into a different part of the ground. I suspect the seats offered to Deadbat in the south stand are ones set aside for club staff and spouse, I had two around that area years ago when my ex worked at the lane.
I would at the very least be asking for first choice of seat when the stand is extended when meeting the higher ups. I don't think a meeting with all 100 displaced fans would have turned out very well given the anger this has generated it could well have turned very nasty. Hard to see any solution that will suit everyone hopefully they will get first dibs on seats in a extended south stand next season.

Good seats were held back in the South Stand? That is not what the ticket office manager said. So someone is not telling the truth. She said there were no seats anywhere near the back/middle of the South Stand as they were all season ticket holders of long standing...She showed me the map of the stand and every seat had gone in the middle to back section and were existing season ticket holders.

You are implying I did not act quick enough if what you say is true (telling me that there were seats and the ticket office manager is not telling the truth)

I emailed and rang the next day after I received the letter and at no point did she or McCarthy say we have saved seats in the South Stand of a similiar quality in terms of central/back of the stand. The letter even states these seats are not as suitable/sufficient compared to what we had and hence why they put us all in the corner.

Of course if they had been offered some seats of comparable quality I would have taken them.

In terms of seeing both sides my issue is not they had to move us but how they have done it and the way we were given information and told what was happening. A meeting on person for us all would have saved 100 or so fans having private appointments with the club after expressing their anger. The meeting was good on Friday but it should not have come to me and many others having to initiate that really. They will have had far more staff time taken up as a result of how they chose to communicate it.

I want to move on now. I will still have my meeting with messrs Bettis and McCarthy as they owe that to us/me but we can't change what has happened merely learn from it.

Deadbat Have you been offered first choice of seats in the South Stand extension if it ever happens? You and the others affected should surely be granted that at least?

It might be worth getting it confirmed and in writing when you visit Betis and McCarthy

Can't imagine us ever playing at Elland Road, I think Oakwell would be more likely, I know it has a smaller attendance but if we continue to sell a similar amount of season tickets, it'd hold all ST holders just about.

With a bit of good planning it'd be minimally disruptive.
Oakwell is only about 23k isn’t it? That’s less than the capacity if the Lane with the Kop taken out (after South Stand expansion).

Is all of Oakwell currently in use? I’ve not been for a few years, but last time I went I remember coming away with the impression that part of the old main stand was unusable (per the condemned corner at the Sty).

Edit: it may just have been the broken glass mortared into the tops of dividing walls that gave me that impression! Like time travel back to football grounds in the 1980s.

Yeah it's 23 and a bit. As I said, it'd be season ticket only and maybe it wouldn't get all of those in, just think it's extremely unlikely that we'll go to Elland Road, and the alternative to that is S6 which is even less likely thank Christ.

It's a conundrum (if we establish ourselves) because we could build a second tier on the South, and make it general sale only, and limit the season ticket numbers to under 25K, but then you're left with a ground full of season ticket holders and maybe a few hundred general sale.

And then the season tickets would be going day one because they'd be the only way to see United, and it'd be a reyt shitshow.

Liverpool managed to build a top tier without losing many seats and moving only 3 games at the start of one season to finish it all off. If I recall it took a few years to do it that way. Its also very pricey.

Yep, £130m I think they spent on that.

A lot of that was based on it being minimally disruptive though I imagine. If we started work after our last home game this season, and asked for away games at the start of next we maybe could get a terrace up with a similar level of facilities (none haha) as the Kop, and the South Stand can be done in season if they work their way toward it.

Need to get the court case settled, see how we go in the Prem and get planning, the demand is there if we continue on our current trajectory, why not be positive for a change and say that we will.

Think you might not be aware but the South stand plans have already been done and agreed.
There won’t be any terrace on the South stand, a 2nd tier is built above and behind the current South, so the current arrangement isn’t effected.
It’s exaclty the same as what Liverpool did. It’s a similar situation with the Kop too.
McCabe even said that the beauty about both designs is that during the building work, capacity will hardly be effected, so no lost revenue.

The problem though is that it seems the designs might be for the benefit of a future owner.
I’m not sure if McCabe and the Prince currently have any interest in stadium expansion. McCabe is normally quite vocal but has gone quiet on this front.
His last words a few year back were “stay in the PL 1 season, then we bring the diggers in when the season ends”.
So based on what he said building could start June 2020, but I doubt it somehow when both owners are keen to sell.

Likewise. And your job?

And my job?! Job or jobs?!

Family man, football fan, volunteer, child-minder, world traveller , cook and 'bottle washer', holiday rental business - in that order.

I'm 71 years old fellow- Blade - don't do so bad, thanks. Make efforts to limit my time on this Forum, that's for sure. Love it though.

And you - your job? Do you cover Wednesday very often?

Just a really quick update on this...I met with Mr McCarthy with my Uncle this morning after he had been in touch a few weeks ago when I followed things up. He gave up over an hour of his time and shouted us to a coffee in the Copthorne. He discussed in detail why they had to do what they did/time frames etc. His phone was constantly going as of course it was really busy and he probably had better things to do than meet us but he did not answer his phone and took time to speak to us and listen to us. It was really appreciated.

Most of what he said will remain private but suffice to say he said the club will do what they can to look at seating options for the 20/21 season for those relocated this season. Of course no guarantees anything better than we have now got will be available but they seemed genuine when they said they wanted to look at keeping in touch with the 90 or so affected in terms of prioritising for the future.

I have to say a thank you to Mr McCarthy/Dave and Mrs Sampson/Carrie the ticket office manager, for taking time out on separate occasions to discuss it with us. We probably won't totally agree on how it was all communicated/time frames and not going to change the fact we have lost our excellent seats for good (admittedly Premier League forced so many changes on the club) but they did not have to meet us and listen to us so fair play to them for that.

I have just realised though that I've not yet got my new season cards either with relocating...seems most new ST holders have received now through the post? Doh! My fault.

Suppose I'd best ring the ticket office early next week if nothing comes through.

Did he hint at expanding the South or kop?

Did not really discuss that. I am sure with everything it will depend if we stay up on any ground expansion plans.

The meeting did show the amount of hoops the EPL had made the club jump through and is a world away from last time we were up there.
