I don’t in all fairness think I have felt like this at the start of the season

Everyone of course is entitled to their own opinion, and the club fan base seems split especially on the Facebook sites with many feeling like me, but plenty criticising anybody that has the audacity to be seen as negative.

United just seem to do everything slowly, whether is getting players in or playing the actual game, it’s slow. I must not make this post too long, otherwise people will give up reading it. But while Middlesbrough for example, except and sell their best player quickly and then start replacing, ironically of course, including an ex United player. We limp on towards the start of the season with pretty much the same squad +2 additions that are hardly going to improve the quite frankly turgid football we played last season. In fact, the football we have played in the last two seasons has been without doubt the worst I have ever seen. Some people of course or saying it’s all about winning, to an extent of course that is correct but we have to be entertained as well don’t we? I certainly won’t drive 140 miles anymore to watch the shite that is being served up at the moment.

Other sides in the championship, whether they were relegated promoted or even the ones that did bugger all last season are spending money or certainly bringing players in . But of course, what’s the rush? Surely is better to wait until the very last minute, that’s just the United Way !

So much about our club is just underwhelming. Preseason games, okay we went and played Levante. And of course, the turnout in Germany yesterday was spectacular. (with Little reward.) but look at who Birmingham, Wrexham and others play while we ponce around playing local rivals, scraping the occasional victory and then boasting that we are unbeaten in preseason. Just underwhelming.

No doubt over the next week or so one or two will come in but who will go out? You can’t blame anybody, especially not Hamer that’s what happens in football.

But is such a disappointment after the first promotion and the football and flair that was on offer. Now we seem to have no Plan B and plan A is pretty rubbish to start with.

Where is the second player that Wilder publicly said was coming through the door two weeks ago? Where is Phillips? Where are all the other players? so obviously needed Why are the owners so damn quiet. Can anybody actually coach in this club, do our players get any better? Why has Zatterstrom not improved he’s played for Sweden for fuck sake and we only have one centre back!

We are in danger or just being another ex Premier League club that gets squashed below so many others like QPR, like Stoke City like Swansea and many others. Anybody that thinks we have any chance of getting promoted this season really is, in my opinion in fantasy land. Many Unitedites, when we got relegated said the championship was much better anyway, good, because that’s where we are likely to be for an age unless the club has a serious makeover. Thank god at least we will be above Wednesday.

I will try again to get into Rugby League, follow the 49ers and try other random sports, but unfortunately after 60+ years I’m stuck with them, it’s part of me there nothing I can do about it and deep down that’s good enough for me. But please can we at least play a better brand of football to compensate for the likely disappointments ahead.

Same owd, same owd, a summer like the previous seasons more false promises than Andy (Capp) Burnham on steroids. Looking at the pre-season games it will be more of the boring slow Wilderball with little plan or tactics, nick a goal and defend. If we don't make two or three additions we will more than likely finish lower than we did last season, Wilder might even be getting a Christmas bonus if things go really bad.

I tend to stop reading anything as soon as I see 'It's the United Way' as it usually mean negativity over objectivity.
But I did continue and I can't wrap my head around you saying the last 2 seasons being the worst football you have ever seen us play, yet you say 60+ years.?
I am 63 this year and I could pick out around 10- 15 seasons in my time that have been much worse.
It is all about opinions of course.
I agree it is too slow and predictable in the main. I accepted that last season when Wilder came back as it needed another overhaul (which we are only just starting and will take another 2 windows after this at least) but I did expect to see some more signs of change to the playing style.
More patience is probably needed by us all, but it will be wearing thin if there are no sings of improvement after 5 or 6 games.

I think many people bemoaning the brand of football don't watch a lot of football with a critical eye.

When we watch the Blades, every attack that peters out or doesn't result in a chance is frustrating and we pick apart why it failed. When we watch a game as a neutral, less invested, we patiently sit through teams doing the same thing, then pay attention when the goals go in and say, "look, they're moving it fast/making runs/taking people on/putting early balls into the box, why don't we ever do that?"

As the OP says, many, many teams have been relegated from the PL and settled into midtable mediocrity, or worse. When it happens to these clubs we barely pay attention, it's good because it makes room for teams like us, Luton, Ipswich etc to break into the top flight. When it happens to us, the club is fundamentally and spectacularly broken, the board are incompetent and the manager is washed.

Having watched the Blades for 60 years I can tell you that the football played in the last 2 seasons is far from the worst I have ever seen. What about the tripe played under Adkins? And don't get me started about the filth dished up under the likes of Sirrel, Haslam, Peters, McEwan, Heath, Adams and Weir. I am not a happy clapper and understand why people feelnegative but some folks on here seem to have short memories

I was talking to a group of lads - 2 x Hull City fans, 1 x Gillingham fan, 1 x Leeds fan, 1 x Stoke fan - the other day.

I showed them our current squad and all bar one of the Hull fans thought it was a really strong squad. Granted Hamer and Burrows could leave us making it weaker but if you look at our squad on paper, it’s actually not bad at all. Of course, GaMeS aReNT pLaYED oN pApER…..so what’s the reason for the negativity?

WILDER.

1000% agree with everything you’ve stated.

The football has been dreadful to watch for seasons because god forbid we move away from Wilder.

The whole midfield is slow, Peck, Rothwell, Jairo, Arblaster all the same slow sideways and backwards but apparently we need Phillips🤷‍♂️

For years we’ve been crying out for two pacey wingers a midfielder that can carry the ball and create something out of nothing.

People bang on about Cannon and Campbell being crap but they get naff all service just feeding off scraps.

Also it seems like we only ever have one target and wait all summer for them re Soutar.

Agreed to some extent, but saying that the last two seasons aren't as boring as the seasons under Haslam, Heath etc is hardly inspirational. I wish we could have decisive, forward thinking owners, management and tactics. In fact, having endured yesterday's match I'd settle for any sort of tactics at all.

Agreed, but this problem is compounded by the fact that they are actually crap.

The problem is your own expectations. If you think the last two seasons are the worst you've seen in 60 years you're frankly deluded and have lost all sense of perspective. Your critical faculties are no longer working properly.

It's a common thing on here: make a ridiculous claim or have some type of ridiculous expectation and then cry when it isn't met. It's the age of hyperbole and faux outrage; ironically, it's so commonplace now it's become droll and boring rather than eye catching. United are a middling Championship club with a declining squad that should finish lower mid table. A play off finish would be amazing. If you're expecting more the problem is you. The signings are arriving slowly due to £.

Wilder last season essentially said the squad was crap. Many fans were saying nobody could have done anything with it.

Right now the squad currently worse than last season. We could of course sign 4 or 5 players in the next 2 weeks and everything looks positive but It's obvious why people are apathetic about the upcoming season at the moment

Promotion was not even on my radar. Im simply hoping we avoid relegation. Still poor defensively, still lacking up top outside of bamford. Its hardly worth getting enthused about. Chesterfield cut us open on the counter ffs
We need some athletes and wilder seems to want to build a booze cruise 11 instead. Its hardly the most thrilling of times
Still, if we somehow bring in a top df, potent fw and athletic winger, I may yet remove the tena and sleep easy

This. Exactly this

Roy have you ever considered doing a "Roy's view from.... roy"
Id like that 😁

Agree to an extent. Though some people haven’t been watching united for that long, or have even been alive for that amount of time. (Not taking the piss there either).

The past two seasons have been dull. Not quite as dull as the Atkins/Weir era, but dull nonetheless, there’s been nothing to get excited about for a while, so I get why some folk are annoyed.

There are so many whingers on here now, it's becoming harder and harder to even look at the forum these days. Couldn't we just have a moaners section I could avoid? It used to be shoutbox on match days, now it's everywhere.

Superbly put!
You've absolutely nailed it.

I often wonder how some of the ( ever increasing) serial whingers on here cope with everyday normal life.
Up to 10 years ago this forum was a decent place to discuss events, it's been downhill ever since and accelerated it's demise over the past couple of years or so.

Only a minority of sensible, dare I say 'sane' posters left to make it just about bearable to enter into.

The lunatics have really taken over the asylum.....

Wednesday have gone down, lost the one good player they had, and lost their pre season games 15-3 on aggregate.
But, because they have a new badge the fanbase will be arrogant, excited, and ready to launch HMS Piss The Lague.

We are soooooo different 😅

Being worried about the usual slow club admin, ownership mess, unfit squad, lack of athleticism, makes us lunatics does it?
Its called realism hun. There's nothing to suggest its going to be a good season. Unless things change rapidly.

As a moan. That’s a very relevant and decent one 😉
