If Billy Sharp becomes the 5th player to leaving BDTBL this summer, he will also be another player not involved much last season. Paddy, Naysmith, Benno and stewart didn't play any or much of last season which tells me that blackie is happy with what he has got. If Walton signs as billy goes you could look at it as 5 in and 1 out based on last season, Stewart being the one seen as he played a few games. I might have to eat my words and we might be looking stronger than i thought. I still believe we need more players and quality to go with them but hopefully they could be on there way.

What do you think??

The pattern is more downsizing, more young players out the door and a few bodies brought in to make up the numbers. And there'll be a few more loanings again.

It really is hard to argue that Benno, Naysmith, and Paddy come in the 'young players' category...

The three young players of any note brought through in recent years have all been sold, even though we had to buy one of them back before getting rid again.
We've gone from a relatively youthful team to potentially having virtually no-one under the age of 25 next season and plenty over 30.

tight squad!!tight bastards!!!!!full bleedin stop.but, maybe one more good signing will be sufficient.maybe, just maybe

What I think is that the transfer window is a long way from shutting, we will will take some loan players whether we want them or not, and there is another one opening in January or whenever. There is half a season between the two and if we don't fully acheive the team we want to see straight away, there will time to redress the balance.

I'm quietly pleased with what has been going on so far and I'm sure there will be more news to come out over the next few weeks that will be of interest to us.

It's a marathon, not a sprint.

When did we have a youthful team?

Why are we up shit street if we have replaced one player who played last season with 5??? I admit i thought the same but when you look at it we are bringing players in.

If we get a couple of decent loan signings and maybe another two permanent signings in the solid, but not breathtaking mould (lets face it, no signings this season were going to be breathtaking), then we may have the makings of an improved squad over last season - if nothing else but for the stability of having 90% of our own players rather than an unsettled 50-75%. A decent keeper on the books is as good a building block as any.

Don't get me wrong, I still expect disappointment, but see the signs of a slight improvement nontheless. I think at the moment any improvement however small is to be embraced after last seasons total regression.

Out: Paddy, Billy, Harper, Stewart, Naysmith, Benno

Given that none of them played more than a handful of games last season I can't see how we can possibly weaker.

Ins: Simmo, Bogdanovich, Britton, Ertl

Simmo has consistently played at a high level than Paddy. Bogdanovich scored a similar amount of goals to Billy (who doesn't score for us incidentally), Britton who was chased by Premiership sides to replace Harper and Ertl as a utility squad player. So far at least 3 of our 4 signings have strengthened us from last season, given that other players can only at worse fill out our squad I can't for the life of me see how we will be starting weaker than last season.
For those in the cheep seats from those that left only Harper played regularly for us last season and was slated by a lot of the posters moaning that things aren't looking better.

I replied to you on another thread saying pretty much the same thing.

Simmo and Leon will be 1st teamers, Ertl and Boggy, probably 1st replacements/bench and he's extended the contracts of Morgs, Monty and Cresswell who will probably all play 40 plus games next season. add to that Ward, Yeates, Ched, Willo (if he returns fit and well), Lowton, Squinny, Taylor and maybe Hendo and that's 15 players from which he's probably happy with 8 for his starting line-up.

If/when Billy leaves, that will free up funds for any two from Dickinson/Nyron/De Meritt (or maybe all three) giving us more back-up for defence and doubtless there'll be a couple of season long loans in the offing.

A promotion winning squad, who knows but as you say, not looking as bad as some on here would lead you to believe. We could end up with 10 new players, arguably a stronger 1st XI than we had last season having spent nothing in terms of net outgoing fees.

16/1 Get On
