Is the squad good enough for promotion?

No said Adkins, since when has done nothing to address this. So therefore by the gaffers own admission we aren't good enough mid October. Scandalous.
Not doubting you, but where's he said that?

Simple answer is no , need a couple of leaders on the pitch team is spineless at the moment
I would sign a keeper centre half and defensive midfielder all experienced with the job of rattling a few cages

There is enough talent in this squad to win every game in this poor division but it will be the three teams with the best attitude that escape it and surely the decline of standard cant carry on at the rate it has the last few years

This is our best chance as if the board dont back the manager this season then they never will and we can resign ourselves to staying here till the youth policy throws up eleven outstanding league one players

I was reading an article on Trevor hockey, the way he used to run the midfield and the crunching tackles he made, also was a playmaker, and a great defensive midfielder, do we not breed them like that anymore, imagine having a player with his attitude in our midfield today, we need someone with guts and passion but I guess today's game is to soft.

No. They'd get sent off every game they played as you can't tackle anymore without giving away a free kick. That's come from the Premiership and the small, skilful players whinging if they get knocked off kilter and it has rippled down the leagues.

Is the squad good enough? yes, maybe, in patches, but not consistently, and that seems to be the problem. The fact that Fleetwood can put four past Burton tells you that no team in this league is unbeatable. We should have enough in us to score goals, but the midfield is incredibly weak, a gulf that needs filling quickly with some quality and strength.

Do we have the guts and attitude? No.

Can anyone imagine MK, Preston or Bristol (last season), taking on a team in the bottom four, with only 10 men (Oldham yesterday) and not coming away with all three points?

God almighty, we are SUFC and we are (and should be) worried about the impending arrival of Fleetwood!

Yes but adkins needs to actually play mcnulty best finisher at the club. And start using Terry Kennedy and get it in to playets heads like ryce we don't want yto see 30 seconds of skill we want 10 seconds of running down the wong and actually putting a cross in. And make people like baxter realise they can actually try a shot from edge of box instead of trying to walk it in

We will be lucky to see Kennedy appear 10 times this season with his injuries.

Instead of running down the Wong, I'd like to Ryce start cutting inside and playing passes.

No and Adkins doesn't think they are good enough either.

I also seem to remember him saying he thought it would take us two transfer windows to do all the business he wanted.

It's a shame because yet again the opportunity is there for us to push the boat out and win the division, but we're behind the pace. How much is down to Adkins and how much is down to the 25 players Clough brought in that aren't good enough is hard to assess while ever the message from the club is that finances are all in order and we can do business when needed.

Think it was because Platini didn't like playing with the big boys?

I do wonder if most of the current squad has the mental attitude to get promoted. It would be interesting to see if any of them have been involved in promotion winning sides and therefore know what it takes - I suspect not.

Bergen's Oldham match analysis was interesting. We started with Basham as the holding midfielder - now I think he should be well suited to that role with his attributes - however it obviously didn't work and we put Baxter there and improved. That for me is a worry and I think it further highlights the need for us to sign a midfield leader. It's such a shame that James Wallace is injured as I think that is a role he could play.

I can now think of Billy and Woolford when they were at Scunny with Adkins!

Just watch the "mental attitude" change when we put a few results together. Once that happens we will leave the pack. In a promotion season average players start to look like world beaters.

Basham lacks the awareness and discipline to hold his position and influence others. He is a bit like a "headless chicken" and very unsure in his role in midfield, whereas he is composed and authoritative at the back.

Note: away from the doom and gloom on here SUFC are still favourites for promotion.

At the 'Ask Adkins' event. Where he also said "Listen, Jamie Murphy isn't going anywhere".

The failure to address a problem he identified, is just as shameful as telling the fans one thing and doing the other.

What he said at the Q&A pre-season was to the effect that: "No, the squad is not good enough for promotion. Then he went on to explain that we had a long list of injuries to key players and he also said that he had every confidence that his coaching staff could help each player get better with personal improvement plans because they'd done it elsewhere. He did acknowledge also that he would make some signings, which he has.

About 4.5 seasons

ITS A SIMPLE GAME!

What is it NA always says?

'Stick it in the others end and keep their balls out of your end!'

Why don't we just get on with it!

"Putting a few results together" would require some form of consistency - something that we have sadly lacked so far and I don't see it changing anytime soon.

I wish I shared your optimism.

Money grows on trees.
Teams are made overnight
Muppets come on football boards

I never said money grows on trees, or that teams are made overnight though did I?

Yes - yes they do Davie. Apologies for bringing up a quite relevant subject.
