As I said in my posts on the day JCR left on loan I thought it was a bad move and a very strange decision.
At that time he would definitely be in my top 3 Blades players and 1 of the few players who carries a threat to our opponents.
I think the results since he left support this and also the theory JCR would help us playing against the top clubs hasn't worked eg 0-3 defeat yesterday v Swindon.
I personally think this is Clough's worst decision by a mile.
Do you agree?

Higdon a bad move but not as bad as sending out one of your best players at a vital time of the season

The Butler business?

From what I hear, and it may be well wide of the mark, Butler was encouraging Maguire to go and take the money "because you might never get another offer like that again".

If that is true thenClough was absolutely right to bomb him out of the club.

We don't need disruptive influences from within, we have enough problems from the opposition.

Quite right. What use do we have for someone who knows how to okay centre half?

Jesus wept.

I very much doubt that Maguire was going to stay until Butler advised him to go!

His worst decision is the way he handled the Collins & Butler situations. If he had no intention of playing them then he should have replaced them. He's had plenty of money and opportunity to do so. We have a small group of defenders which he'll actually pick from. If we lost a couple long term, we'd be in severe trouble.

If the Butler reports are true, I'm struggling to see what he's done wrong. Giving a player the best advise for his career is hardly a hanging offence. We all knew Harry was going to move on sooner or later, it's admirable that he stuck around for so long.

Couldn't agree more re JCR, he is a nuisance player that can occupy defenders and leave gaps for others especially as we are now trying 4-4-2. There are more bodies to aim at. Even more annoying when Clough was moaning about having 8 injured after the match

I was thinking about who those 8 are. By my reckoning:

Howard - we need him
Kennedy - we need him

The rest?

Holt: scrappy midget. Not missing him
Scoogs: see above
Flynn: I can live without him
Higdon: major disappointment and Clough wouldn't pick him
Collins: Clough wouldn't pick him if he was fit
Wallace: write off for season and had effectively been useless.

So we are in reality hampered by 2 injuries.

How many players have openly advised a team mate (who is a player we are desperate to keep) to leave the club. I find it strange that a player who has just joined a club and then give out advices which doesnt benefit the club. He sounds a disruptive type of player in the deressing room

If you think Butler is the main reason Maguire left the club, I've got a bridge in Brooklyn you might be interested in buying.

I say for the millionth time, United could have kept Maguire. The board, not Butler, chose to sell him.

i realy think it may have been his worst decision, that and his negativness in matches like the peterborough game. yesterday was just the sort of game JCR would thrive in , either starting or coming off the bench he would made us far more threatening on the wing that coutts ever could. and i didnt see coutts putting in many better crosses than JCR would either and he certaintly cant beat players like he can so for me its a no brainer .. get him back after that 28 days cloughie!

No I didnt say Butler was the main reason Maguire left. It looks like Butler acted as a know all and then Clough decided that he should leave (I think the other reasons was that Butler was poor in pre-season matches and not playing to instructions)

Openly? I've seen nothing public. If Harry asked him for advice and he gave it, I'm struggling to see an issue.

Another issue is no height in the team, don't threaten at set pieces and poor at defending them.

Clough's worst decision? Easy. Agreeing to manage the Blades. When does that decision go well for a manager?!

As I agree with Butlers alleged advice, I don't see the problem. Football is a short career, his stock was high and 1 rash challenge could have changed everything for him. Butler didn't enter the negotiation process to sell him neither. So in no way was he responsible. If Nige spat his dummy out based on that, the problem is Nige. If Nige spat his dummy out over a couple of bad performances, again, the problem is Nige.

To be honest, I haven't seen anything productive from JCR for some time. For a right mid/winger, I can't recall him beating a man and putting decent crosses in on a regular basis in the last 5 or 6 games he has played. No idea why Coutts played right mid, wasn't even in the game yesterday and seemed devoid of any attacking intent. I'd have thought Ben Davies would have been a much better option on the right to get a few decent balls into the strikers???

I don't understand why JCR has suddenly become one of our best players now he's out on loan. He's had some good moments, but more below average ones. However, he is a good impact sub and that's what we lack.

It's an unwritten rule at Sheffield United that players become 10x better when they leave, and 10x worse when they arrive.

Can you name someone who has played better on the right this year?

He's not the best right winger in the World, but he's the best on our books.

Yes. And depending on future finanaces, spending well over £2.5M in fees and wages for a right back could be up there with it.

He's not the best right winger in the World, but he's the best on our books........

.....by a mile.

Coutts, who's been truly woeful in that position, has been there several times - which shows how lacking we currently are.
