When confidence is at a low ebb amongst the supporters and players, the constant referal to the certainty of relegation is hardly going to help matters. If the players get the feeling that the supporters have all lost hope, it is hardly going to build their own confidence to turn things around.

The players could be looking to us to help them. When they need all the help that they can get, why not get behind them?It might even help obtain improved results and maybe avoid relegation after all. It will certainly help more than all the negativity.

Get behind them, your team need you!!!!

Negativity, off the supporters who pay their hard earned cash every week, many of whom can't afford it?

All this 'get behind them and support them' is bollocks. Do people think we turn up at the lane every fucking week to see them lose, or pay out over a ton every away game because we want to see the overpaid millionaire footballers at Bramall Lane suffer?

Or are we going down because we're fucking shit, and we have been plundered of quality since about January 2009?

I don't think it's got anything to do with the fans at all.
I just can't understand why there appears to be so little professional pride among our players at the moment.

Agree with axel and lenners here I'm afraid. The Blades turn out in their numbers every week and have given great vocal backing at the lane of late. Those that are dedicated enough to travel to almost every away game deserve a medal when things are like this! Unfortunately Hodgy, they have every right to moan. A lot of the supporters are paid what some of our highest paid players get per week.....the players are ultimately responsible for the results and the only people that will truly suffer from relegation are the supporters.....go figure?!

I'm not against positivity and I appreciate thats what you're calling for, but I dont think its fair to say the supporters are responsible in any way for the results simply because they are fed up and want to have their say for their hard earned pounds.

The only self fulfilling part about it is that when you play shit for the entire season, you are quite likely to go down.

The fans wouldn't be in such a resigned mood if their was an ounce of fight on the pitch. The players (with a couple of exceptions) have largely given up, so what kind of mood do you expect the fans to be in?

"the only people that will truly suffer from relegation are the supporters.....go figure?!"

Then why contribute to your own dissapointment?

I didn't say that the supporters were responsible for our current predicament, just that we shouldn't make it worse by being so overtly negative.

Fair point Hodgy, but message boards are for saying it how you see it. I see a pile of shite that's going to get relegated. I've paid £50 for the priveledge of going to support them tomorrow night and I promise you that they wont know that I've given up. I'll give it my all. Probably for about 60 minutes until we're 3 down.

An old quote springs to mind:

"A bad day at Football beats any good day Shopping or Working," I wouldn't change it for anything

As far as I can recollect none of the players have ever consulted me or anyone I know as to how they feel about the team's prospects. And let's face it, most of the first team regulars won't really give a shit if we get relegated. It might piss them off for a bit, but it won't affect them in anything near the way it will affect us.

The ony players who seem to care about United with something approaching the way the fans do are Quinn, Monty and Morgan, and that's about all. And given the chance next season they will go.

So once again I find myself in the peculiar situation of agreeing with lenners. It's got nothing to do with the fans.

I'm not contributing to anything hodgy. The club is doing just fine on their own without any help from me. As alco says, we pay a lot of money for the privilege of supporting and most of us do our bit to raise the roof at Bramall Lane and beyond no matter how badly we're feeling towards the team.

Supporters who put money into the club coffers every year are as entitled to criticise as they are to cheer. If that affects the players well.....oh.....fucking boo-hoo. They're grown men who are paid outrageously win or lose and have thousands of poor sentimental saps like me getting depressed for them when they lose.....

With a high-profile job and high salary comes a high level of responsibility and expectation. If they cant hack it then they shouldnt be getting the rewards. Time for them to man up and pull their finger out. Most of the people who turn out to support them have much harder jobs for far less reward and more criticism so I've no sympathy for footballers and their egos.

The crux of your argument is honourable hodgy and I understand what you're saying, but I dont agree in any way that the supporters have a responisbility to the players and their confidence. It is the other way around!

Couldn't agree more SCB (better save that line, l think it's the only time I've ever written it).

It isn't the fans who choose the manager, the signings, the formation, the training methods, the working hours, the time off, the diets etc. etc. ad infinitum.
We get to pay for the "privelege" of watching highly paid people showing us what they can do. If we paid less and they got paid less then it might be a bit more palatable but it would still boil down to the people employed by the club to deliver to the best of their abilities.
Hasn't happened at all this season and the fact we can all see it (well nearly all) is not our fault.

Talking of self fulfilling prophecies. This reminds me of the sales of Fjortoft and Deane. Just before their sales there had been outcry at the attempted sale of Gareth Taylor. So when they sold Fjortoft they could say 'but you preferred Taylor'.

I think what will happen is that when we go down and pay peanuts (aside from various lumps with massive recent contract extensions for no reason), the board will say: 'but all we ever heard was how we were paying them too much. You should be happy!'

I agree. We arent getting relegated because the fans have been predicting it, were getting relegated because the team is shit and the club is a shambles.

We might disagree on a lot of things Grecian but the common ground is that we are Blades and we expect something half decent for our money. Most of us aren't stupid and when something is shit we can see its shit.
